Howard Johnson and Midnight Magic, New Directions In Funk returns with a new 7” featuring three giants of the funk, house and 45s game, DJ Spinna, XL Middleton & Zackey Force Funk. Curated by Eli Soul Clap aka Bamboozle, the series of split 7’s that explore the electronic side of funk music (or as we like to call it EFUNK), and Volume 4 marks the beginning of a new series showcasing different artists’ interpretations of House Music in the 45 format. Each edition of the series is pressed on limited marble vinyl and for volume 4 we’re going GREEN! On one side, Brooklyn icon DJ Spinna gives us stripped back house groove, led by a snappy funked out beat and bassline and topped off with wobbly synths. On the flip, L.A. modern funk dons XL Middleton & Zackey Force Funk drop an uptempo electro boogie stomper complete with signature XL bassline and synths and of course Zackey’s undeniable voice and lyrics. This marks the first release on the series distributed by hip-hop and funk institution, Fat Beats solidifying the label’s future in the funk-e-verse.
