Sean Price – Refrigerator P (BF RSD)
Tuesday, October 24th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Sean Price – Refrigerator P (BF RSD)

Image: 1615575 Coalmine Records is honored to release a limited-edition, 10-inch maxi
single of “Refrigerator P,” a bruiser of a track from Philly producer Small
Professor and the late, legendary Sean Price.
From the moment the strings drop, you already know there’s no other
emcee that could do this beat justice like P! Lyrically, the Brownsville
native is as on point as ever, dropping crazy references of the Chicago
Bears’ Super Bowl XX victory and his trademark no-bullsh*t punchlines.
And then there’s the hook, which pairs his longtime partner-in-rhyme and
other half of Heltah Skeltah, The Rockness Monstah, with the turntable
madness of DJ Revolution.
Ruck and Rock prove once again why they’re regarded as such an
incredible force, as Rock’s no nonsense hook complements P’s bully
bars in a way that could very well make this track one of the toughest
tracks in P’s catalog.
The maxi-single comes loaded with the instrumental and a special
bonus beat selection called “P’s Theme.” Rounding out the release is
the smoothed out “Peaky Blinders” remix of “Refrigerator P” featuring the
Emerald Isle-born emcee, Rob Kelly. Listeners will no doubt attest that he
holds his weight alongside P.

A.
Refrigerator P (feat. The Rockness Monstah & DJ Revolution)
Refrigerator P (Instrumental)

B.
Refrigerator P (feat. Rob Kelly) [Peaky Blinders Remix]
P’s Theme” (Bonus Beat)

• Production is supplied by Philly’s Small Professor, who produced Guilty Simpson’s ‘Highway Robbery’ LP (2013) in its entirety
• Features include P’s partner-in-rhyme, The Rockness Monstah aka “Rock” of Heltah Skeltah, DJ Revolution, and Irish rapper, Rob Kelly
• Artwork is illustrated by Action Bronson’s in-house artist, FRKO

Image: 1611481 Funeral Balloons is the new album from acclaimed producer & NYC
fxture Blockhead [real name, Tony Simon]. Funeral Balloons is as bold
and irreverent as the title suggests, from the uplifting and energetic mood
of “Bad Case of the Sundays” to the spaced out airy grooves found on
“UFMOG” all the way to the 1970s car chase anthem like “Escape from
NY”, the songs never stop in one place.
While, at its core, Funeral Balloons doesn’t stray far from the kind of
music Blockhead has been making since his debut Music by Cavelight,
his evolution as a producer is on full display, exploring different avenues
and sounds with every new release and continuing to forge his own lane
between the worlds of hip-hop and electronic music

David Porter – I’m Afraid The Masquerade Is Over

Image: 1610898 Previously unreleased version of I’m Afraid The Masquerade Is Over!

This is a must have record and supplies are extremely limited. Long
out of print and extremely sought after, David Porter’s “I’m Afraid The
Masquerade Is Over” gets a proper re-issue on 45, but with a special
twist. First released in 1972, this groundbreaking masterpiece was mostly
overlooked by the masses of that generation. However, twenty plus years
later, hip hop producers would revive newfound interests in this cut (and
Porter’s other works) after sampling bits & pieces of it for some of the
most defning songs of the mid 90’s and early 2000’s (Who Shot Ya,
Duel Of The Iron Mic, It’s Over, etc). For this special edition, the original
multi-track session was resurrected from the archives, re-polished and
re-edited into a brand new mix for your listening pleasure. Familiar fans
will go emoji crazy once they get a taste of the exclusive new version
that boasts new breaks, alternate takes and a louder, fuller instrumental
presence among other goodies, creating fresh opportunities for beats
and lives mixes. Pushing the 9 minute mark, parts 1 & 2 are presented
between 2 sides, presenting the all of music in it’s entire glory. Original
pressings of “I’m Afraid The Masquerade Is Over” are not easy to come
by. Own this collector’s item while you can. “Must have” vinyl for DJ’s,
producers and anyone else on the hunt

Perera Elsewhere – All Of This
Friday, April 21st, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Perera Elsewhere – All Of This

Image: 1609213 Building off the sultry electronic art-pop blueprint of her acclaimed 2013 debut ‘Everlast’, Perera Elsewhere returns with her sonically adventurous, dystopian second full-length ‘All Of This’.

Tracklist:
1. Something’s Up
2. The Other Side
3. Happened
4. Tomorrow South
5. Karam
6. Big Heart
7. Girl From Monotronica
8. All Of This
9. Shoes
10. Runaway
11. Weary

Building off the sultry electronic art-pop blueprint of her acclaimed
2013 debut ‘Everlast’, Perera Elsewhere returns with her sonically
adventurous, dystopian second full-length ‘All Of This’. Written and
recorded in Berlin, Istanbul, and Mumbai over the course of three years, ‘All
Of This’ expands on downtempo rhythms and ornate organic/electronic
instrumentation with more attention to folding hypnotic, moody
atmospheres traversing trip-hop, avant R&B, and experimental folk.
A fixture between many disparate music scenes as an experienced yet
self-taught producer, Perera was an original member of Jahcoozi (B-Pitch
Control). She has participated in various collaboratory cultural music
projects in far-flung parts of the world with the Goethe Institut and has
taught people in Bangladesh how to use Ableton to try and create the kind
of musical world they feel to : anthropology, feminism, community, DIY
and empowerment through music are all thrown together to try and make
sense of the things that surround us.
A quiet tension haunts throughout the record’s instinctual arrangement
and movement. Addressing increasing distrust and confusion towards our
political/economic systems, the album’s smoky first single “Something’s
Up” delivers a warning to open our eyes. Touching upon many timely
societal anxieties like wealth inequality the rise of parallel worlds / echo
chambers within society and people living in their own bubbles / gated
communities of the mind (“The Other Side”), ego/self-obsession
(“Happened”), the constant noise of being continuously targeted by
marketing (“Weary”) and dealing with all these pressures or even attempting
to understand our times (“All Of This”), this is a record that approaches
such weighty issues in a manner that feels deeply personal.
Using a hybrid of digital techniques, analog equipment (Buchla,
Korg MS20, Poly6, Monotron Delay) and organics (eg.trumpet and some
percussion), Perera Elsewhere arrives at an original sound spotlighting how
the soulful human element cross-polinates with technology and electronic
exploration. ‘All Of This’ is raw yet sophisticated expression of an artist
trying to make sense of these dark times.

Key Points:
• Follow up to 2013’s ‘Everlast’ which received notable support from
Pitchfork, Vogue, NPR, Resident Advisor, Vogue Italy, Groove
Magazin, Dazed, Dummy Mag, The FADER and more
• First single “Something’s Up” received support from Pitchfork,
Resident Advisor, The FADER, The 405, Indie Mag, Indie Current
• “Something’s Up” Official Music Video premiered on THUMP
• Original member of BPitch Control’s Jahcoozi, with features on
Modeselektor record (FIFA soundtrack)
• Perera Elsewhere has contributed mixes to RBMA (Trainwreck Mix),
FADER, Groove Magazin, Solid Steel (Ninja Tune on NTS), EB
Radio (Electronic Beats), Dublab, KEXP and more
Press Quotes:
• “The music she made existed in some strange continuum
between Siouxsie and the Banshees and Massive Attack. Now, after a
nearly four-year hiatus, she returns with “Something’s Up,” an
ominously quiet piece of ambient pop.” – Pitchfork
• “Haunting, hypnotic, and criminally slept on..” – The FADER Available from 02.06.2017

Das reguläre Mixing übernahm Rob Jones (The Gene Dudley Group). Available from 21.04.2017

Clock Opera – Venn
Friday, December 30th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Clock Opera – Venn

Image: 1607232 Clock Opera are back with their sophomore album Venn.

Tracklisting:
CD
01 – In Memory
02 – Changeling
03 – Closer
04 – Whippoorwill
05 – Hear My Prayer
06 – Ready Or Not
07 – Dervish
08 – Cat’s Eye
09 – Tooth & Claw
10 – When We Disappear

Clock Opera began with Guy Connelly, a London, England-based multiinstrumentalist whose soaring, emotionally naked voice recalled the likes of Paul
Buchanan (the Blue Nile), Billy Mackenzie (Associates), and Antony Hegarty
(Antony & the Johnsons) without being quite as extreme as the latter two
vocalists.
After forming a live band with Che Albrighton (drums, samples), Dan Armstrong
(keyboards, samples), and Andrew West (bass, guitar,
keyboards), Clock Opera released their first single in 2009 with the “White Noise”
7” on Puregroove. Further singles followed in 2010, including “Once and for All,”
on Kitsuné. The same year, Connelly remixed the Phenomenal Handclap Band’s
“Baby,” Marina & the Diamonds’ “I Am Not a Robot,” the Drums’ “Me and the
Moon,” and Au Revoir Simone’s “Tell Me.” In 2011, the band’s reputation
continued grow, releasing the infectious “Belongings,” single on Moshi Moshi
Records. Further remixes followed for Metronomy, Feist, Everything Everything
and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
Following extensive touring (with Alt-J, Metronomy, Django Django, Maximo
Park), Clock Opera released their debut album ‘Ways To Forget’ on Island/Moshi
Moshi Records in April 2012. The Sunday Times called it “one of the indisputable
masterpieces of British pop in 2012….rare sonic ambition and scope”. Clash
Magazine said “a bar-raiser – an album of intelligent synth pop bubbling with
humanity. nAt the end of worldwide touring in late 2013, the band began to write
the follow up to Ways To Forget.
In 2014, keyboardist Dan Armstrong left to pursue his own music. Following
completion of recording the second album, multi-instrumentalist Nic Nell (who
also performs as Casually Here) joined in late-2015.
Following comeback singles ‘Changeling’ and ‘In Memory’, Clock Opera are to
release their second album ‘Venn’ on February 10th 2017.
Co-produced with Kristofer Harris (Bear’s Den, Matthew & The Atlas) at
Squarehead Studios, Kent, it’s a darker beast than their debut. The distinctive
sound of Clock Opera— the agile alto voices, a sleek and supple rhythm section,
immaculate production — is still present, but there’s a marked shift in lyrical tone. Available from 10.02.2017

Tony Aiken & Future 2000 – Liberation

Available from 27.01.2017

Image: 1607382 General Steele of Smif-N-Wessun/Boot Camp Clik and Burlington,
Vermont-based producer Es-K present their collaboration album
Building Bridges. Produced mostly by Es-K, the album features
guest appearances from Buckshot of Black Moon, Smoothe Da
Hustler, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Rockness Monsta of Heltah Skeltah,
and a posthumous cameo from his late great partner, Sean Price.
As one half of Smif-N-Wessun, General Steele crashed the hip-hop
scene in the 1990s with their debut album Dah Shinin’ (named a Top
100 Album Of All Time by The Source and a Top 50 Debut Album Of
All Time by Complex). Their last release – 2011’s Monumental – was
produced by Pete Rock, and Steele has also collaborated with Tupac
Shakur, Mary J Blige, 50 Cent, Raekwon and Bounty Killer. Es-K
may be best known for his 2014 album Serenity (listen) as well as his
Spontaneous Grooves beat tape series, where every beat on each
tape was made in one sitting each. A low-key display of introspective
verses, classic cuts and jazz-inflected beats, Building Bridges stays
true to its name by bridging the gap between established artists
and rising ones alike such as VVS Verbal, Shadow The Great of
Loaf Muzik, Napoleon Da Legend, Mar’rz Atomz, Stage One,
Louie Skaggs, Boone Bixby, Supreme The Eloheem (from the
Representativz) and Coke as well as production from Hellfire Beats
and Central Parks. DMC champion DJ Grazzhoppa contributes cuts
alongside Hashfinger and Hellfire. The cover art comes courtesy
of Joe Buck, the artist behind the De La Soul Is Dead cover art.
Building Bridges will be released via Bucktown USA, the multimedia
company General Steele created in 2004 alongside partner
Cynical Smith, with digital distribution through Duck Down, including
a limited-edition pressing of 500 records. #BuildingBridges

MF Doom – Operation:Doomsday
Friday, October 28th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on MF Doom – Operation:Doomsday

Image: 1606605 Back again on vinyl where it belongs, MF DOOM’s 1999 classic Operation: Doomsday is now presented on a premiumgrade
LP, with audio re-mastered from the original Fondle’Em Records release, and a poster of the album cover art!
Underneath his mysterious metal mask, MF DOOM hides the cachet underground legends are made of. After KMD (his
first group)’s 1994 sophomore album Bl_ck B_st_rds was shelved by Elektra in 1994 and his blood brother Subroc (one
half of the sibling rap duo) passed away, surviving frontman Zev Love X mutated into the MC Avenger known as MF
DOOM and the Rap world is better for it. This 19-cut deep album is ridiculously dope, in a bizarro Ol’ Dirty Bastard kind
of way. Doom sounds either high or drunk on most of the tracks, his self-produced beats are gritty, and his rhyme styles
are almost indecipherable. On arguably the best track, “Rhymes Like Dimes,” Doom weaves some pointed lyrics through
his abstract wordplay, spitting ‘only in America could you find a way to earn a healthy buck / And still keep your attitude
on self-destruct.’
Who You Think I Am? features DOOM‘s crew M.onster I.sland C.zars, while on “?” he trades hot verses with former
Columbia artist Kurious Jorge. Doom’s avant-garde ghetto-rhyme philosophies take even more intentionally weird twists
on “Tick, Tick…” where he and guest MC MF Grimm’s flows warble over a rhythm track whose tempo speeds up and
slows down continually. The comic-book themed skits, will help take you deep into the mind of an MC who is as otherworldly
as they come. And in today’s bland commercial Rap universe, Operation: Doomsday’s left-of-center beats and
rhymes are the perfect remedy.

3rd Generation Band – Because Of Money / Obi Ye Saa Wui
Friday, September 23rd, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on 3rd Generation Band – Because Of Money / Obi Ye Saa Wui

Image: 1606554 The 3rd Generation band was formed in the late 70’s led by ‘Rockson’, who was a soldier at the time. The band recorded only six tracks, all for Essiebons, including the two featured here – ‘Because of Money’ and ‘Obi Ye Saa Wui’.

Our man Gary Johnson bought a 7″ from a dealer in New York on digging trip some years ago. He knew ‘Because of Money’, and was delighted to find that the B side was just as strong.

‘Because of Money’ was originally released on Essiebons EB 398 7″ and was featured on Soundway’s excellent ‘Ghana Soundz’ compilation. The record is extremely rare – yet to make an appearance on either Discogs or even Popsike.

This reissue is a replica 7″, including the picture paper sleeve, carefully restored by Andrew Edwards.

Seraleez’s debut album, “Good Life” is a soulful collection of poetic revelations and
personal experiences set in an eclectic soundscape of hypnotic Hip Hop grooves and
iridescent Jazz harmonies. Their songs reveal and confess the essences of inner and outer
revolutions as one strives towards the “Good Life”.
With sophisticated harmonies, soulful vocals, heavy hip hop beats and electronic nuances,
Seraleez defines a new and unique flavor for the genres of Jazz and Soul. Through the
fusion of classic and contemporary influences, Seraleez creates it’s own sound for the
future.
In the spring of 2010, four young German Jazz musicians in Dresden were brought together
by their untypical love for hip-hop beats. Finding inspiration in bands and artists like Robert
Glasper, The Roots, RH Factor, J. Dilla, Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill these four musicians
began experimenting with Jazz and Hip Hop fusion. With the addition of electronic sounds
and a powerful vocalist from NYC, Seraleez evolved into the style of future soul.
Christine Seraphin (also known as Sera Kalo) is a Caribbean-American singer and
songwriter born to St. Lucian and Dominican parents and raised on the east coast of the
United States. After studying classical piano for nearly 12 years, she began singing and
later went to college in New York to begin her musical studies in piano and voice. Parallel
to her studies that introduced her to jazz and classical vocal styles, at home, Christine grew
up listening to calypso, reggae, soul, rock and pop music. After graduating and moving to
Germany in 2009, she founded and performed with musically diverse ensembles and has
made solo performances on international television programs, in stadiums and arenas
across the country. Her most current band, Seraleez was founded in 2010 celebrating
Future Soul (a fusion of Soul, Hip Hop and Jazz).
TRACK BY TRACK
GOOD LIFE – Good Life is about celebrating life and the choice to stay positive even when things
become challenging. It’s about maintaining faith and realizing that if you take care of your world, your
world will take care of you.
JACK & TOM – Jack & Tom is about making an important life decision. Are you going to follow the rules
that are set before you, or will you break them and create your own?
LALA LAND – LaLa Land is about the dreams we have as children and the meaning they have as we
remember them as adult. LaLa Land describes a place where you feel free to let go of your inhibitions,
go with the flow, and allow the obstacles you face to become the driving force that leads you to your
goals.
MY PRIDE – My Pride is about self confidence and references the social, political and personal
representation of Afro-hair. For many years, it was unacceptable for Black women to wear their hair
naturally in western society. This song is about realizing our beauty despite what other people think,
loving ourselves, and presenting ourselves with pride.
ONE CHANCE – Once Chance is about living life to the fullest, accepting all the little blessings that your
environment has to offer you and following your dreams.
DARKNESS – Darkness describes the multiple personalities of people. In the light we can be one way,
and in the darkness we can be another. In this song, the darkness allows this person to reveal their
vulnerability.
THE ONLY ONE – The Only one describes the contradiction between being the only one physically, but
not being the only one to experience whatever situation that person is going through. It’s about the
comfort and discomfort when someone tells you, “You’re not the only one.”
SHUT UP – Shut Up is about generational conflict within societies. It’s about old tradition vs. new
tradition. It’s about the conflict that occurs when the process of change begins. It’s about the challenge of
listening to one another and knowing when to speak up or … shut up!
FEAR ME – Fear me is a song that personifies loneliness. It talks about the fear of being lonely and
what couples may do sometimes to avoid the feeling of loneliness.
BROTHERHOOD – Brotherhood talk about devices that were used to separate humans and argues that
the things that divide us are sometimes the very same things that combine us and bring us together. It
wishes for no more fear towards one another and the realization that we need each other to live and
make the world better.
MY MAN – My man is about a girlfriend who has very wanted boyfriend and is letting her competition
know that this man is taken ,) Available from 28.10.2016
