Isaac Hayes – Do Your Thing (RSD)
Thursday, November 3rd, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Isaac Hayes – Do Your Thing (RSD)

Image: 1606747 “The full 33-minute, unreleased, psychedelic funk jam session by Memphis rhythm kingpins the
Bar-Kays, mixed directly from the original tapes. Contains bonus rhythm section instrumental and
booklet detailing the history of this never-before-heard version of one of Isaac Hayes’ most
famous songs by Hayes historian Bill Dahl.
Hayes was already a cutting-edge funk master at Stax Records when he accepted the
unprecedented assignment of creating a soundtrack for the 1971 action flick Shaft. At a time
when R&B songs routinely timed out at three minutes and under, Hayes’ albums for Stax’s
Enterprise imprint had been breaking new ground since 1969. His masterpiece Hot Buttered Soul
consisted of only four tracks, two songs on The Isaac Hayes Movement clocked in at a hair under
12 minutes, and one selection on his …To Be Continued stretched to 15:33.
But his epic “Do Your Thing,” one of the cornerstones of the two-LP Shaft soundtrack, outdid them
all. Occupying nearly the entire last side of the set, it concluded after 19-and-a-half grooving
minutes with the overdubbed sound of a needle scratching violently across a piece of vinyl. No
one knew that jarring ending masked the existence of another 13 minutes of “Do Your Thing.”
Consigned to the vaults, those improvisatory extensions—somewhere in between free-jazz and
psychedelic rock—were seemingly destined never to be heard. Until now.”

Constant Deviants – Omerta (2LP)
Saturday, June 11th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Constant Deviants – Omerta (2LP)

Image: 1604597 (Emcee) M.I. and producer DJ Cutt return a year after releasing the
critically acclaimed “Avant Garde” with a new album and concept.
The duo, who have further developed their creative enterprises to
incorporate film production as part of their ever expanding SIX2SIX
organization, have drawn from their respective Italian and Russian
heritages to adopt the personas of Luciano and Lansky in the new
album “Omerta”.
Describing the approach, M.I. explains “It’s to put a little of the fun
back into hip hop, not just throwing out beats and bars. A return to
the days where the focus was on entertainment, relating imaginative
stories and putting more emphasis on actual songwriting.”
The 13 tracks are a series of vignettes set in a metaphorical criminal
underworld They depict familiar times, events and cultural reference
points as a formula for conveying parallel meaning.
Such imagery has been used by rappers for decades, eager to
portray a glorified vision of themselves, but M.I. is a man on a
different mission, adding “I’m not endorsing a lifestyle or suggesting
this is who I am in any literal sense. I wanted to address this subject
in a more intelligent way, compare mindsets and situations in a
broader dynamic.”

Image: 1586121 Great reissue of the hugely in-demand Rota Enterprises 12″ release of Panache’s massive jazz-funk tune ‘Sweet Music’. Unstoppable and fiercely funky, this brilliant cut never lets up the energy for a second – frenetic guitars and bass combine with grooving keys and sweet vocals in a highly-charged dancefloor bomb. Backed with the equally wonderful instrumental jazzy version which ramps up the drums and keys, a big favourite of Kenny Dope amongst others. Unbelievably good and ultra hard-to-find in the original, you won’t want to miss this!

Jerome LOL – Deleted / Fool

Image: 1586818 Jerome LOL steps out of the shadow from defunct supergroup LOL Boys with his first solo release the Deleted/Fool EP on FOF Music. No stranger to electronic music he was named Fader’s ‘ Top DJ’s To Watch in 2013″ and spent the better part of the year touring with Baths, Juan Atkins and Anthony Shakir.

Jerome Potter’s talents first found a home within the electronic duo LOL Boys, a collaborative project sparked via an online message board with likeminded DJ/producer Markus Garcia. Around the same time, Jerome also ignited a relationship with fellow LA resident Samo Sound Boy that
devloped into them starting the record label BODY HIGH, a preeminent platform for underground club music in America that’s housed releases
from the likes of Todd Edwards, DJ Sliink, DJ Funeral and more.

In September of 2012, after multiple releases under the LOL Boys pseudonym – including the critically acclaimed Changes EP – Jerome and Markus decided to go their separate ways birthing Jerome’s solo enterprise, Jerome LOL.

Since the parting, Jerome LOL’s touring and DIY releases have been essentially non-stop, debuting his innovative “One Day” music serie s as
well as multiple remixes for the likes of Classixx, Tomas Barfod, D33J, and more. With all this under his belt, Jerome LOL is set to make his official debut on Friends of Friends with the four-track EP “Deleted/Fool.” The EP is a continuation of the dualities Jerome explored in his “One Day” series. He shows us how easily he can manipulate satisfaction into melancholy, evoking an array of emotions.

Key Points:
– Press support from Pitchfork, Spin, FACT, Resident Advisor, Dummy, Mixmag, Impose, etc.
– Top 10 “Most Blogged About” artists on Hype Machine
– Named one of Fader’s ‘Top DJs to Watch in 2013’
– Popular visual artist covered by Examiner, Buzzfeed, Gizmodo, Spin, etc.
– Co-owner of popular underground U.S. dance label BODY HIGH
– Has toured with Baths, DJ Pierre, Juan Atkins, Anthony Shakir
– “People were dancing, but it was a different sort of movement — deliberate, oozy, relaxed — as if they were paying attention with their ears
more than their bodies.” – NY Times on Jerome LOL’s Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival set

Not a resurrection, but a rebirth. In 2006, we were first hearing what seemed to us a conundrum: gospel singers performing pious gospel songs, and devoutly, but doing so amid hot, sweaty, earthy sounds drunk on the same moonshine downed by any blues singer thumbing his way up north from the Mississippi delta. The Father […]

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 | Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off on Blaktroniks

Eddie Patrick Smith (from Detroit) and Percepticon (from Minneapolis) formed Blaktroniks to create an artistic platform for themselves and like-minded artists in Oakland. They released their first records and videos on their own multimedia-company DKIM. Later on they released music on various platforms including Moving Records, Reflective, Tokyo Dawn, and now Rubaiyat.

The biographies of the individual group-members touch a lot of subjects and different relations: from genetic-engineering-patent-university-studies to working in a barbershop. From building electronic devices and lofi indie FPS PC games to programming official Star Wars-games. From Count Basie-family-relations to music-relations to famous artists from Minneapolis. Those experiences, living in Oakland and a lot more are reflected in the music and the art of the Blaktroniks.

On May 23, 2008 the Blaktroniks are going to release their fifth album entitled “Mechanized Soul” on Rubaiyat / Phazzadelic
