Hüsker Dü – Savage Young Dü (3CD+Book)
Friday, September 29th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Hüsker Dü – Savage Young Dü (3CD+Book)

Hüsker-Dü-Bassist Greg Norton: “Hearing this stuff for the first time in a couple of decades, I [was] realizing the historical significance of what we were doing at the time”, erklärt er. “Of course, at the time, we were a bunch of kids playing rock ‘n’ roll in the basement. But the potential that Hüsker had showed right out of the gate.”

“We created this blistering wall of sound – bright white radio static with occasional melody.” – Bob Mould
“It was like rolling down a hill aware of the bumps, but focusing on blowing people’s minds and completely wearing out the audience.” – Grant Hart
“We didn’t know what hardcore was. We just got up there and played real fast and loud.” – Greg Norton

Hüsker Dü – Savage Young Dü (4LP+Book)
Friday, September 29th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Hüsker Dü – Savage Young Dü (4LP+Book)

Image: 1611807 Experience the punishing sonic origins of a punk icon. Collected here for the first time, and skillfully remastered from original board tapes, demos, and session masters, this collection is an authoritative chronicling of the wellspring and maturation of Grant Hart, Greg Norton and Bob Mould—three St. Paul teenagers who’d go on to become the most heralded trio of the American punk underground. Follow the Hüskers to their earliest gigs in 1979, through extensive road dog touring, and to the start of their partnership with West Coast tastemak er SST in 1983.

This primitive stage in the fabled car eer of Hüsk er Dü is presented as a deluxe box set and packaged with a hardbound book crammed full of never before seen photos, flyers, and a sprawling essay with participation from the band. Spread across four LPs or three CDs, 47 of the 69 songs compiled here are previously unissued. Also included are Statues/Amusement, In A Free Land, Everything Falls Apart, and an alternate recording of the Land Speed Record set.

DJ Low Cut – Dead End (2LP+MP3)
Wednesday, March 15th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on DJ Low Cut – Dead End (2LP+MP3)

Image: 1609266 Stuck in the depths of a dark alley, blocked by yet another breeze, hitting a stone wall, road sign ahead: Dead End.
Impasse. “Cul-de-sac”.
Hip-hop. The original, some would say, official music of the late 20th Century Bronx.
Some say it has endured it’s fair share of distractions, detractors and defectors. Some say it has murdered itself, having been abandoned by its so-called best men, those who have gone off in other directions, or who have, simply, just beat-retired. Yet, there are plenty of Soldier Monks still out there, prepared to sweat it out in the Temple of Machinery and Mics.
Low Cut honored this cause four years ago, with his MPC crafted minimalist version of NY Minute and he’s back to ring the bells and unsheathe the samples!

The starting point of Dead End’s production remains the 90’s boom-bap, but the will to carry it even further brings it to its destination. By decorating it with rich samples flushed out after digging through vinyls pressed several decades ago, it is guided by a compass pointing deposits to the East. With sound quality inherited from a fastidious composition and mix works, using inspiration rather than just being a copycat, Dead End celebrates it without setting it up as a museum piece.

Picturing the beatmaker stuck in the depths of a dark alley, ended with a brick wall, is easy. But far from isolated in his Parisian basement, Low Cut has rung phones in New York, Baltimore and Detroit, rounding up the faithful. He magnetized the hidden but sharp forces, and gained attendance of legends. The casting of Dead End : Ruste Juxx & Nutso, Dirt Platoon, Guilty Simpson, Torae, Rasheed Chappell and the stainless Masta Ace, among other beat crushers. Also starring DJ Duke, Nix’on, Topic and Ordoeuvre with their DMC titles crates, for a deep beatfight on bars scarified of scratches.
Heavy atmosphere, martial beats and street soul, Dead End is also the final episode of the projects initiated by Low Cut, based on the model of a producer inviting various MCs.
He will then replace his turntable needles, refresh his sample banks, and settle the BPMs of his productions on more abstract frequencies.

Klaus Layer – Society Collapse (LP+7")
Friday, September 23rd, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Klaus Layer – Society Collapse (LP+7")

Image: 1606467 Collapse is Klaus Layer’s fourth full length album since 2013 and
possibly his greatest musical achievement to date. Two years in the
making, Klaus reveals an instrumental concept album full of genredefying
arrangements and hidden layers that will reward the listener
over repeated plays. In just three years since his vinyl debut, Klaus
has earned himself a reputation as Germany’s most prolific and
unique hip-hop conductor yet and this record will only further solidify
that.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
“In a society where unsettling truths about responsibility are given little
thought, and short-sighted impulses have become commonplace,
it’s easy to become disillusioned, but it gets a little harder when what
we’re looking at are the bricks with which to build the future.
There is never a time without consequence, history provides a
resource of successes, failures and reflection. Eras of change ebb
and flow and ours is once again uniquely positioned to cultivate an
understanding of this interaction between the past and present to act
upon what comes next.
This record is a musical manifesto for reclaiming that awareness,
personal choice and inspiration for progression.” – Klaus Layer

Image: 1606527 After repeatedly being visited by a strange messenger in his dreams while on tour in the islands of Greece, Toby Pazner became consumed with a vision to tell the stories of TheOlympians through music. Chosen by the gods as a messenger for not only his musical gifts, but for his unique position at the center of the Daptone family, Toby built a home studio from scratch and employed some of the top soul musicians in the world to help him breath life into this album. The result is a dramatic and cinematic journey to the outer limits of instrumental soul music, built on a foundation laid by the same craftsmen who’s bricks built the legacies of Sharon Jones, Lee Fields, Charles Bradley, The Budos Band, and Menahan Street Band, and painted with lush strings, harpsichord, harp and horns. The Olympians is destined to be the instr umental gem of the year.

Lyn Collins – Think (About It)
Friday, June 17th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Lyn Collins – Think (About It)

Image: 1604719 James Brown had several incredibly talented “funky divas” in his late ‘60s and early ‘70s stable, including Vicki Anderson and Marva
Whitney. But as great as those two powerhouse singers were, Lyn Collins was the strongest hit maker of that funky JB era.
Her strong voice and commanding stage presence – which earned her the nicknames “The Female Preacher” and “Mama Feelgood” –
quickly proved to be a potent addition to the People Records universe. In the spring of 1972 her second single, the driving and
ridiculously funky “Think (About It)” hit the R&B music world like a ton of bricks. As fans young and old know, thanks to its timeless,
relentless groove and powerful vocals, “Think” gained a powerful second life in the 1980s thanks to the hip-hop generation, fueling the
platinum smash “It Takes Two,” by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock in 1988 and additionally sampled by dozens of hip-hop and dance music
artists up to the present day.
But Collins was far from a One Hit Wonder: she was as vocally adept on ballads as she was with full-blown funk. She proves thisthroughout
her debut album, which was released in 1972 on James Brown’s new People Records label – the imprint’s second full-length release.
To wit, aside from the title smash: a powerful and emotional cover of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”, the socially progressive “Women’s

Beneficence – Basement Chemistry
Friday, January 8th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Beneficence – Basement Chemistry

Image: 1601530 After dropping back to back classics with “Sidewalk Science” (2011)
and “”Concrete Soul”” (2012), Brick City veteran and Ill Adrenaline
Records co-founder Beneficence unleashes his 6th solo LP
“Basement Chemistry”. Armed with the true sounds of the golden
era Benef drops rejuvenated flows and shares mics with hip-hop’s
elite lyricists. The lineup includes Inspectah Deck (of Wu-Tang Clan),
Masta Ace, MC Eiht, El Da Sensei, AG (of D.I.T.C), Dres (of Black
Sheep), The Legion, Chubb Rock, MindsOne, and Estee Nack (of
Tragic Allies).
Once again the close Artifacts affiliate traps the listener into slick,
thought provoking rhymes backed by hard hitting yet soulful
production from DJ Spinna, Da Beatminerz, 12 Finger Dan,
Confidence, L’Orange, Presto, KON Sci, Jazz Spastiks, and many
more. 19-tracks strong, the dusty and raw sounding full length
displays a perfect blend of street jewels like the Inspectah Deck
laced “Digital Warfare” and the Masta Ace inspiring anthem “When
The Sun Comes”.
The P Original produced banger “Easy As 1-2” opens the album
brilliantly showing Benef’s relaxed but witty cadence. “Basement
Chemistry” travels down many avenues including the battle rap
driven joint “Against The Grain” and storytelling saga “Maui Vacation”.
The album’s formula stays true to the game with obscure samples,
intricate cuts, and official boom bap sound.

Image: 1601310 Following on from their hard hitting previous release ‘Quarantine’, East London’s Phil Passera & Chieka Ononye deliver their 4th release as PAYFONE on New York’s Golf Channel Recordings.

A side Catholic Central emerges from a dark street corner to bloom into a moody synth and bass heavy rhythm, before colliding with a disco riff that could have easily been borrowed from the master tapes of late 1970’s Atlanta outfit Brick.

Featuring the vocal style of Argentinian Pia Gonzalez Antar, who in confession recalls the dark dynamic of a relationship with a previous lover many years her senior.

The room shaking B side comes courtesy of d’Marc Cantu’s ‘HAZE MIX’ that delivers a pounding late night electronic soul voyage.
Cantu has been releasing genre defying records since the late 2000’s, and performs as one third of JaKbeat super group X2 alongside Traxx & JTC.

The Second Re$$urrection – Keep On Keeping On / Wise Up
Thursday, October 1st, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on The Second Re$$urrection – Keep On Keeping On / Wise Up

Image: 1600058 Two unreleased disco funk bangers from Joe Tex backing band THE SECOND RE$$URRECTION. Dug out from Sonny Cravers Stanson Records archive, The band did release one ultra rare disco/modern 45 which goes for $3000+ all day long also coming to Athens of the north soon.

One of the most widely travelled, widely heard unknown groups in the world. A band of serious Funk musicians who have shared the stage with the elite of the elite. They have shared the stage with Jean Carne, Boston, Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, Rufus & Chaka Khan, The Isley Brothers, Shalamar, Tavares, Rufus Thomas, Tyrone Davis, Barbara Lynn, Millie Jackson, The Brothers Johnson, B.T. Express, Brick, Frank Lucas, The Drifters & Blue Magic. They won equal acclaim when they played alongside Earth, Wind & Fire at The CBS Family Affair. They performed at New York’s Rialto Theatre, The Apollo, and toured East and West Germany. They performed for the movie premier of Rudy Ray Moore’s, Petey Wheatstraw – The Devil’s Son-In-Law at Chicago’s Regal Theatre.

The original name of the group was THE SIX DEGREES SOUTH (A Very rare funk45 I released when working at Jazzman Records) based out of Lawton Oklahoma. A nomadic group, they completed a 3 year trek primarily booked at military bases across the nation. They also played a variety of college and university towns, ski-lodges, various clubs and hotel ballrooms. They initially dabbled in recording producing a vinyl 45′ single entitled, Loving You Is Too Far Out. Upon returning to home-base the group met the legendary soul singer, Joe Tex. Being into funk, we were not all that familiar with his soul sound. He explained what he wanted to do and the end results of what could be accomplished. The band, already being self-contained and autonomous seized the opportunity to utilize not only Tex’s fame in the music/radio world but his label connections. Unknowingly, this group almost single-handedly launched Tex’s career back into the spotlight allowing him to re-emerge and re-invent himself after a 5 year sabbatical.

They played, wrote and produced-in-part Joe Tex’s Bumps & Bruises album containing the mega-hit, Ain’t Gonna Bump No More (With No Big Fat Woman. This culminated into Tex’s first gold album, won a Grammy nomination and was #86 on Billboard’s 1978 year-end chart.

On the flip side the bands own LP was shelfed after the single “Smoke in the Disco” did not live up to Stansons Records expectations, as these things go it later became a huge modern/northern soul record and is coveted by collectors all over the world, so lets share a bit more of the Lost LP…,. Tanya Morgan – Moonlighting
Wednesday, June 24th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Tanya Morgan – Moonlighting

Image: 110264 Reissue of 2006 album / debut album from new group previously featured on Little Brother’s “Minstrel Show” and Foreign Exchange’s “Connected” albums

Despite the virtual process that Tanya Morgan used to
produce this album (recording from remote locations and
not in the studio together), Moonlighting still makes for a
refreshing piece of work in today’s hip-hop climate that
seems almost totally bereft of what once sustained the
art form: groups. Whether it was duos (Gang Starr, Eric
B. & Rakim, OutKast), trios (A Tribe Called Quest, De La
Soul) or Wu-Tang Clan, hip-hop has always thrived off the
convergence and mélange of talent and ideas as much
as the transcendent singular talents of its solo artists.
Moonlighting, released in the spring of 2006, features
Brooklyn’s Von Pea teaming with Cincinnati MCs Donwil
and Ilyas. The trio spits witty, self-deprecating, yet
boastful, well-crafted rhymes throughout this 13-song
effort produced by member Von Pea and Cincinnati
beatmaker Brickbeats. As solo artists, the group members
(save Von Pea) would seem to be lacking. As a group, the
intermingling of their personalities (Von Pea and his BK
swagger, Ilyas as the MC’s MC, and Donwil as a bit of an
old soul) and their distinct rhyme styles keep the album
closer to unpredictable than boring. Moonlighting gives
hip-hop heads that ol’ familiar feeling — in a good way.

Czarface – Wu-Tang founding MC Inspectah Deck and veteran Boston duo 7L & Esoteric – isn’t concerned with the glitz and the B.S. that modern consumer culture is pushing. And neither are the group’s fans. In 2013, the trio appeared relatively unassumingly with their self-titled debut, which was chiefly produced by DJ 7L and included […]

Backed with the funk-fuelled Renegades of Jazz remix of their, ahem, classic tune ‘Classic’this double-sider updates old school hip hop values for 2015.

Lyn Collins – Think (About It)
Wednesday, January 7th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Lyn Collins – Think (About It)

Image: 1594525 James Brown had several incredibly talented “funky divas” in his late ‘60s and early ‘70s stable, including Vicki Anderson and Marva Whitney. But as great as those two powerhouse singers were, Lyn Collins was the strongest hit maker of that funky JB era.
Her strong voice and commanding stage presence – which earned her the nicknames “The Female Preacher” and “Mama Feelgood” – quickly proved to be a potent addition to the People Records universe. In the spring of 1972 her second single, the driving and ridiculously funky “Think (About It)” hit the R & B music world like a ton of bricks. As fans young and old know, thanks to its timeless, relentless groove and powerful vocals, “Think” gained a powerful second life in the 1980s thanks to the hip-hop generation, fueling the platinum smash “It Takes Two,” by Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock in 1988 and additionally sampled by dozens of hip-hop and dance music artists up to the present day.
But Collins was far from a One Hit Wonder: she was as vocally adept on ballads as she was with full-blown funk. She proves this throughout her debut album, which was released in 1972 on James Brown’s new People Records label – the imprint’s second full-length release. To wit, aside from the title smash: a powerful and emotional cover of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine”, the socially progressive “Women’s Lib”, the Gamble & Huff-penned “Never Gonna Give You Up” (originally done by Jerry Butler), and even a daring, muscular take on the song “Fly Me To The Moon,” made famous by, among others, Frank Sinatra.
All throughout Think (About It), Collins shows that she was a vocal force to be reckoned with. Backed by a James Brown-assembled musical crew that included Pee Wee Ellis, Fred Wesley and, of course, James Brown himself, the platter was bound to impress and succeed. And that it did. Included in this special Get On Down deluxe package is a 22” x 22” poster of the album cover, and a bonus 7-inch of Collins’ 1973 People single, “We Want To Parrty, Parrty, Parrty” with the B Side “You Can’t Beat Two People In Love” which is unavailable on any Lyn Collins full-length.

Artifacts – APB (All Points Bulletin)
Thursday, September 18th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Artifacts – APB (All Points Bulletin)

Image: 1592073 From the fading SMPTE sound and the melancholic opening sax riff to “Wrong Side Of Da Tracks,” the Artifacts endeared fans with their backand-forth wordplay and honest rhyming, paying homage to an oft-forgotten aspect of Hip Hop culture: graffiti art. The New Jersey duo went on a mission of demolition as Tame One and El Da Sensei’s lyrical onslaught was perfectly paired with no holds barred production from some of the best boardsmiths of the day. Their aptly titled debut Between a Rock and a Hard Place (1994) symbolized both the blue-collar work ethic Tame and El put forth in their craft and a clever reference to “Brick City,” better known as Newark, NJ. This momentum carried over to their second (and final) album That’s Them (1997), which showed an ability to grow lyrically while maintaining a strong eye and ear on quality control.
Fast-forward to 2014. On this outing, Tame and El team up, reuniting for a rare appearance with Redefinition Records for their latest single “All
Points Bulletin (APB).” Seattle’s Def Dee deftly handles the production duties on Side-A and Germany’s Klaus Layer runs the remix on the flip
side, but please understand: this is a “Nu Jeruz” affair. With that said, Redef provides a home for the two veteran MCs to showcase their talents sans the restrictions and constraints of a corporate machine exerting its will to mold the artists into something artificial versus “artifact”ual. The music takes on an organic feel and leaves the listener feeling like Tame and El haven’t missed a beat. Rounding out the north NJ connection is K-Def, who lends his mastering prowess to the project. This synergy is felt through geographical bonds and an overall desire to make the best art possible, with more music coming to a speaker near you. The Artifacts continue to “show and prove” with their indelible stamp left on Hip Hop, irrespective of time. Never rule out industry vets with an undeniable dedication to all aspects of the culture…can’t forget New
Jersey.

Bfletcha – Beta
Friday, April 4th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Bfletcha – Beta

Image: 1588359 Belen Vidal as Bflecha has been locked at her laboratory in Vigo, Spain for more than 5 years deciphering the genetic code of second millennium RnB, analyzing the DNA of experimental electronica, creating amalgams of chrome-plated House and 3D Garage and decrypting the grammar of the FM classics from the past 30 years in search for the perfect equation of 21st century music.
After successful experiments such as Ceja de Carnival (Arkestra, 2010) and Qvasi Naves (Arkestra, 2012) where dance music, avant – garde and synthwave hold hands, finally arrives ?eta (Arkestra, 2013), her long format debut, An intrincate essay of futuristic pop, sophisticated electronica and contemporary RnB sounding yet surprisingly direct and timeless.
Twelve songs written and produced by BFlecha and co-produced by Mwëslee (with who runs Arkestra) where we also find collaborations from her close circle as Hosoi from the band Delorean, Arkestra own TiMOTi and Noaipre or iconoclast rapper Arufe, whose contributions do nothing but help reach a higher dimension to the already polyhedral musical universe of the Galician artist.
?eta is a fantasy adventure, a technologic safari, an interstellar journey of cinematic inspiration in search of eternal love and scientific and metaphysical answers to universal questions. BFlecha’s lyrics are a tribute to optimism, to those who imagine that other worlds are possible and are not afraid to cross the bounds of reason looking for other realities, from Ray Bradbury to Sun Ra, from Brandy to Stanley Kubrick, from Phillip K Dick to The-Dream, from Bioy Casares to Mecano, from Terry Guilliam to Vangelis, from Sade to Zamyatin.
A considerable effort where we finally see crystallize the aesthetic that Bflecha has been developing over those years, a natural alloy of the most diverse styles with an absolutely personal sound and her lush, breezy vocals in her prime, showing a conceptual, lyrical and sonic coherence unparalleled in our latitudes that put her as one of the key names at the forefront of the digital pop movement.

Quasimoto – Planned Attack / Talkin’ Shit (Pic.Disc)
Monday, March 24th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Quasimoto – Planned Attack / Talkin’ Shit (Pic.Disc)

Image: 1587887 Half picture disc, half clear vinyl. Lord Quas with brick on one side, and his “insides” show on the flip. Delivered in a clear polybag.

“Planned Attack” is from the album Yessir Whatever, and “Talkin Shit” is a short, previously unreleased track. Both featuring and produced by Madlib. Artwork by Jeff Jank.

On the crime-infested east side of Lost Gates CA, there is a vinyl pressing plant whose brochure says, “will do anything for a price.” Back in the 70s & 80s, they specialized in private press porno soundtracks, but these days Madlib is their only customer.

Delivering them a couple Quasimoto tracks with a drawing or two, here’s the record they returned: a custom-shaped, half picture disc, half clear disc, with thick vinyl. One side is Quasimoto’s “Planned Attack” from the album Yessir Whatever, and the flip side is the previously unreleased “Talkin’ Shit,” a short track with Lord Quas doing what he does best. Both tracks are produced-by and featuring Madlib. Artwork by Jeff Jank.

Pictured below is the front, family-friendly side of the vinyl. The backside of the record, the “x-ray” portion, show’s Quasimoto disgusting insides.

Ill Adrenaline Records and Da Beatminerz team up again to put out two dope unreleased remixes coming straight out the vaults from Mr. Walt and Evil Dee.

While the original version of “…Sumthin” (feat. Tash & Rah Digga) got a more funky vibe, the remix of this east coast/west coast collaboration banger is on the rough and rugged tip. Produced by Mr. Walt and featuring Tash of Tha Alkaholiks and Brick City’s Rah Digga, this remix was recorded back in the same year as the original version (1998) and shelved until now.

The b-side remix of Black Star’s (Mos Def & Talib Kweli) “Another World” is another amazing and unreleased remix of this classic tune. Just like the first remix, this drum driven and funky remix didn’t make it onto any release either. Da Beatminerz got hired to do several remixes of this track (originally produced by UK production crew The Creators) in ’98.

Classic Beatminerz production on both tracks! Available from 20.12.2013

Max Mathews – Music From Mathematics
Friday, January 3rd, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Max Mathews – Music From Mathematics

Image: 1586111 Originally released in 1960 and 1962 on two unique formats with over-lapping tracklists, the seminal Music From Mathematics Showcase Project marked the phonographic introduction of computer generated music for the first time in the public arena. Almost exclusively created at Bell Laboratories using an electronic to sound transducer and a state of the art IBM 7090 (complete with a gargantuan 32KB of disposable memory!) Music From Mathematics featured multiple random-not-random sound assaults preconceived by a host of technicians-cum-musicians eager to challenge the way humans would make and create music at the turn of the New Millennium. Amongst a list of pioneering composers, the two original limited releases pressed by Decca and Bell Telephone Laboratories feature a majority cross section of recordings by two leading composers – project instigator Max Mathews and Bell Laboratories’ stalwart vacuum tube scientist John Robinson Pierce.

As a tutor to many experimental electronic composers who studied at Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (including Suzanne Ciani) and as an inspiration to the subsequent generations that followed the original electronic music boom, Professor Max Mathews’ legacy began with the birth of computer programming technology for music composition (his method known as MUSIC-N) in the 1950s which was showcased amongst other performers on these seminal recordings from 1960. For a man with as many protégés as personal electronic music achievements Mathews maintained a strict behind the scenes role despite perhaps his most notable public endorsement when referenced in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 which paid homage to his haunting robotic version of Daisy Bell/Bicycle Made For Two (which appears here) sung by the Hal anti-character. As the man who taught the robot to sing it is fair to state that a vast portion of the electro or techno made by today’s musicians can be technically (undeniably) attributed to Mathews’ early achievements exemplified here, and not least substantiated by the fact that the leading visual programming language found in music production software known as Max MSP remains a testimony to his legacy. It’s time for microchip pop fans to visit your grandparents.
