The Eminent Stars – Bar Shift
Wednesday, August 9th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on The Eminent Stars – Bar Shift

Image: 1611303 The Eminent Stars were founded by saxophonist Ben Mendes and drummer Toon Oomen. They both share the love for the great music emerging from cities like New Orleans in the 60’s and 70’s: Dr. John, Freddie King, The Meters and many more! Just mix up some soul, Rhythm & Blues, funk and Blues and there you have it: a sound that consists of authentic elements: it’s danceable, intriguing, vibrant and fresh!

Their debut Sittin’ In (Tramp TRLP/CD-9035) was released in february 2014, accompanied by a 45RPM single to support the album. In the past three years the Eminent Stars heavily toured in their home country as well as Europe. They kept writing new songs and here we go with two new, fresh cuts. “Bar Shift” features guest vocalist Bruce James while “Brown Thang” is a smokin’ blues-funk instrumental. These two sides give you an excellent foretaste of their second full length album, scheduled for release in early 2018.

The Eminent Stars are:
• Toon Oomen – drums, percussion and guitars
• Ben Mendes – saxophones, producer and recording engineer
• Mischa den Haring – guitars
• Andert Tijsma – bass
• Emiel van Rijthoven – hammond / piano / wurlitzer
• Dirk Beets – trumpet

1. Bar Shift (feat. Bruce James)
2. Brown Thang Available from 08.09.2017

They both share the love for the great music emerging from cities like New Orleans in the 60’s and 70’s: Dr. John, Freddie King, The Meters and many more! Just mix up some soul, Rhythm and Blues, funk and Blues and there you have it: a record that consists of authentic elements: it’s danceable, intriguing, vibrant and fresh!

Then the moment arrived when Toon & Ben planned a recording session in a rusty old farm in the middle of the French Ardennes. Here the basis-recordings for the new album Sittin’ In found place: all live, together in one big old dusty room, all vintage equipment was brought down there. Just to capture the authentic sounds & vibes of the songs. Soon the great American singer-songwriter Bruce James joined the team, later other vocalists including Steffen Morrison. All blending in with the Eminent Stars!

2. Hearts Are Jumping ft. Bruce James Available from 07.03.2014

Available from 21.02.2014

Image: 1595479 One year has passed since the last release in this series and, as always, the Tramp Records crew have been working hard during the last 12 months to come up with an equally fine selection of tunes for this brand new volume. Our aim is to keep up with the quality of each release, a task which certainly does not get any easier as we step forward into the twenty first century.

There is no need to praise this selection of tracks. It is larger-than-life. And those who do not recognize the distinctiveness of it should better seek medical advice. The most astounding fact is certainly that 99% of the record buying public have never heard any of these tunes, most likely not even the artists. And we are not talking of people who solely listen to mainstream music. No. Even music lovers who believe that they have a good portion of knowledge when it comes to jazz and soul music will be left speechless.

You can skip to any song on this album and you won’t be disappointed. The only premise is that you are a fan of raw, earthy soul and jazz music. If this is the case then you can’t go wrong. Rene Bailey, Matilda Haywood, Lee Mitchell, Nu Art Quartet, to name a few. It is high time to introduce all these names to a broad audience and to prevent that they vanish into thin air. The Movements series was coined to introduce music lovers to so far unheard musical treasures. Tunes which only hardcore record collectors have had the privilege to enjoy it…until now.

Key selling points:
– 16-page CD-booklet and deluxe double-gatefold LP with detailed liner notes, label scans and unseen photographs
– all songs appear on a full-length album for the very first time
