Image: 1608816 Nachdem Your Old Droog 2014 scheinbar aus dem Nichts auftauchte und viel Aufmerksamkeit auf den einschlägigen amerikanischen Blogs für seine Debüt EP bekam, veröffentlichte er sein Album und stellte klar, dass er nicht wie zunächst vermutet ein mysteriöses Alias eines bekannten Rappers war, sondern ein junger MC, ein Kind Brooklyns mit Wurzeln in der Ukraine und einer Passion für Hip Hop. Nun erscheint sein zweites Album auf dem renommierten Fat Beats Label mit Gästen wie Danny Brown, Edan, Wiki, Anthony Jeselnik, Heems, Chris Crack und Produktionen seiner favorisierten Produktionspartner EL RTNC sowie ID Labs(Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller) und 88-Keys (Kanye West, Mos Def, Action Bronson). Your Old Droog – PACKS
Thursday, February 16th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Your Old Droog – PACKS

Image: 1608803 After seemingly coming out of nowhere, Your Old set the internet aflame in 2014 with his self-titled debut EP, catching the attention of bloggers all over the web from New York Magazine’s Vulture to NahRight.com. Before long, conspiracy theories started and people began to posit that Droog was another older, legendary New York rapper in disguise. Profiled in The New Yorker, Droog (meaning“friend”in Russian) set the record straight about who he was:a twenty-something Ukrainian immigrant who fell in love with hip-hop when he arrived in South Brooklyn as a small child. The timbre of his voice resembled that of a hip-hop legend but Droog’s content had more to it than street dreams or observations from a project window. His music reflected his
own unique life experience as he referenced everything from sports, to crime, to Seinfeld and C-Span in his rhymes. He was an intelligent hoodlum with a stand-up comedian’s sense of humor—unafraid to be as self-deprecating as he was self-aggrandizing.
On his critically-acclaimed debut, theYour Old Droog LP, he vowed to “bring back storytelling” and now on his sophomore album, PACKS, Droog delivers on that promise. In addition to the raw rhyme displays on songs like the Alchemist-produced, “Winston Red” Droog flexes his narrative muscles both comically (“My Girl IsA Boy”) and dramatically (“G.K.A.C”) on this new album. For instance, the single “You Can Do It (Give Up)” is an ode to practicality over fantasy told in three vignettes.Co-produced by Edan, andY.O.D.himself “You Can Do It (Give Up)” is almost the bizarro version of Biz Markie’s “Vapors.” The reclusive Edan also produces and appears on the raucous posse cut “Help” with Ratking frontman Wiki. The three MC’s trade bars over an explosive beat that is as inspired psychedelic rock as it is hip-hop. Droog also shares mic duties with fellow rap iconoclasts Danny Brown (“Grandma Hips”) and Heems (“Bangladesh”) and, for good easure,
comedian Anthony Jeselnik lends his dark humor to skits between songs. Besides the return of Droog’s go-to production partner El RTNC, PACKS also featuresproductionfromplatinumproducersIDLabs(WizKhalifa,MacMiller) and 88 Keys (Watch The Throne, Action Bronson, Mos Def). The sum of it all is an album that stands out from the predictable offerings of mainstream rappers today. PACKS is a project for fans of hip-hop’s fundamentals and those who are interested in the progress of the artform. Finally, an album from a new artist that rap fans can truly believe in.

Your Old Droog – Your Old Droog
Tuesday, October 11th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Your Old Droog – Your Old Droog

Image: 1606868 Repress! In today’s hip-hop landscape true virtuosity on the mic is rare.
So rare that when even when it’s apparent it can be quite literally
unbelievable. Rapper Your Old Droog knows this first hand.
On June 2014 the 25-year-old Brooklyn native released his first official
project, the Your Old Droog EP, a 10-track project he cooked up in
about a month with producers El RTNC and DJ Skizz. The project
was good—really good. So good it got the attention of bloggers all
over the web from New York Magazine’s Vulture to NahRight. The
problem however, was that Droog seemingly came out of nowhere.
No pictures, no YouTube videos, no Instagram account, no Twitter—
no way for the entitled, deep-diving rap fan of 2014 to see what this
guy was all about. All they had to go on was the music. Befuddled
by Y.O.D.’s high skill level yet low profile, rap fans’ imaginations ran
wild. Before long the conspiracy theories started and people began
to posit that Droog was another older, legendary New York rapper
in disguise. People argued about it on Reddit and made YouTube
documentaries about him, while fans of his EP waited for the
mysterious MC to show himself.
Profiled in the New Yorker, Droog set the record straight about who
he was and followed up with the first video of him rapping at his DJ’s
makeshift Brooklyn studio, all before making his debut to a sold out
crowd in NYC in September of that year. Given a rave review in the
New York Times, the performance proved that though his identity
had been mistaken by some his talent was unmistakable and his
impact on hip-hop was undeniable.
Droog later extended the EP for a deluxe retail version including eight
new songs. The debut has already made New York Times music
critic Jon Caramanica’s 10 Best Albums of 2014 list and landed at
No. 13 on Rolling Stone’s 40 Best Rap Albums of 2014 list.

“Fresh off his debut LP, which Rolling Stone named one of the 40 Best Rap Records of 2014, Coney Island enigma Your Old Droog has returned with the 11-song Kinison EP. Though keeping true to the moody, clouded, sample-based boom-bap of frequent collaborators DJ Skizz, El RTNC and Marco Polo, Kinison has a vague “rock” theme, with Droog name-checking Alternative Nation acts like he’s Matt Pinfield.

The album also features a song that plays like a nostalgic letter to Rage Against the Machine, which involves memories of buying the Godzilla soundtrack. ‘Everything in that song is factual,’ says Droog. ‘When I was 10, I stole 20 out my grandama’s purse….I actually came home and said, ‘I found 20 dollars by the church’ to buy the CD. It was fucked up.’” -Rolling Stone Available from 24.07.2015

LP and Cassette release of the latest album from Skizz (DJ Skizz),
“Cruise Control,” which is Skizz’s 2nd official producer-album.
Over the last couple years, Skizz has been working extensively with
Your Old Droog, both producing and mixing his music, helping to
propel the career of the young MC from Coney Island. He has also

melodious. It just feels good, like you’re cruising with your lady and
the cool breeze is blowing through your hair!”
Skizz recruited a mix of veteran OG MCs (O.C., Planet Asia, Roc
Marciano, Evidence, etc) as well as up-and-comers (Your Old
Droog, Conway, Hus Kingpin, Da Villins etc.) to provide a sonically
cohesive album that is set to be the official Hip-Hop soundtrack for
the summer of ’16.
