Laura Vane & The Vipertones – BodyQuake (LP+MP3)
Friday, July 25th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Laura Vane & The Vipertones – BodyQuake (LP+MP3)

Image: 1589308 Can you feel it? There’s a rumble in your ears, a tremble in your knees, the world as you’ve known it is about to split, swallow you up whole and spit you out! Then, and only then, you will know you’ve heard ‘BodyQuake’ the long awaited and eagerly anticipated third album from Laura Vane and The Vipertones!

It may seem like a long time since Laura and the guys took to the stage, but rest assured that they’ve been focusing all their efforts in the studio to create a new, hot and exciting sound! This album and indeed the band, have been on a journey for the past 18 months, peering through various windows, stretching into different spaces and smashing together diverse flavours in order to bring you what we all believe to be, the best of their song writing in 2014. The album struts about with all kinds of instrumentation from hard electric guitar and dirty synth bass lines to delicate emotional strings and infectious hooky harmonica. With dance grooves to sustain the heat and ballads to cool you off gently, this album puts ticks in all the boxes!

We are also pleased to announce that they have been blessed with very special guest vocalist on one of their new songs. The very talented Jono McCleery with his super soulful and distinctive tone, joins Laura for a duet and brings a sharp burst of contrast and beautiful harmony to the album.

Inspirations for the album were delivered by Aretha Franklin, Elle Fitzgerald, Stevie Wonder, Lewis Taylor, Carleen Anderson, Kelis, Michael Jackson , Annie Lennox , Jamiroquai… quite the arsenal of talent, eh?

Laura Vane & The Vipertones are looking forward to playing plenty of shows in 2014 and making a lot of noise! Those of you that have seen them perform in the past might notice a difference on stage as they’ve shrunk themselves down to a tidy and powerful 5 piece. Remember to keep checking out their live listings.

Tracklist:1. BodyQuake 2. Pictures 3. Fairies 4. I Won’t Be Your Gun 5. The Enemy 6. Just Do It 7. Lily Pad 8. Hot Money 9. Hi Fidelity Lover 10. I Seek Satisfaction 11. Silence Available from 04.07.2014

Available from 06.06.2014

Zackey Force Funk – Money Green Viper
Friday, June 20th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Zackey Force Funk – Money Green Viper

Image: 1589993 Green vinyl edition of the new album by Zackey Force Funk (previously appearing in the hit+run 777 series.) Huge tip!!
“Zackey Force Funk was born into this wild world in Tucson, AZ in 1974. In and out of prison since the age of 17, ZFF began producing on pirated software his brother gave to him once he had given up a life crime to focus on writing tunes and raising his family.

First discovered by Kutmah back in the golden era of Myspace, Zackey’s signature “Force Funk Sound” swiftly grabbed the attention of a number of formidable producers. Collaborations followed shortly after with the likes of Salva, Lazer Sword, Lorn, Baron Zen, Daedelus and B. Bravo, as well as forming the group Demon Queen with Tobacco. As these tunes were scattered across various labels, finding their homes on their respective collaborator’s projects, ZFF continued to hone his style, delving deeper into the psychedelic future funk realm of which he has created for himself. The fruits of his discipline all add up to his forthcoming debut LP entitled ‘Money Green Viper”, to be released in July of 2014 on LA based collective Hit+Run.

‘Money Green Viper’ plays as a scrapbook of late night joyrides, fast women, demonic visions, real rap rituals and the ever-present pursuit of infinite paper. All of these tales are woven over dust ridden, boogie and funk influenced beats with Zacky’s beautifully haunting vocal stylings as our tour guide. Productions are laced from an appropriate cast of sound architects from across the globe, including Max Kane and Teeko, XL Middleton, Jellphonic, Cupp Cave, Tom Noble, Mike Gao, and of course ZFF himself. Having recently transplanted from Tucson to LA, it seems only natural for the year of the Force Funk Sound to be upon us. ‘Money Green Viper’ serves as the initial full length transmission of a fantastical mind that has many more stories to tell. We await the dark doctrine with open eyes, ears and hearts.”

Allen Toussaint – American Tunes
Wednesday, June 1st, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Allen Toussaint – American Tunes

Image: 1604411 Nonesuch releases American Tunes, a new studio album by legendary New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint, on June 10, 2016. Toussaint had just completed the album when he passed away in November of last year during a European tour. Recording took place at two sets of sessions with producer Joe Henry: solo piano at Toussaint’s New Orleans home studio in 2013, and with the rhythm section of Jay Bellerose and David Piltch – joined by guests Bill Frisell, Charles Lloyd, Greg Leisz, Rhiannon Giddens, and Van Dyke Parks – in Los Angeles in October 2015. The album comprises solo performances of Professor Longhair tunes and band arrangements of songs by Toussaint, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Paul Simon, and others.

Allen Toussaint’s work as composer, producer, arranger, and performer, especially in the 1960s and ’70s, helped shape the sound of R&B, soul, and funk as we know it today. He collaborated memorably with artists ranging from Lee Dorsey and Ernie K. Doe to the Pointer Sisters and Labelle, from the Meters and Dr. John to the Band and Paul McCartney. The New York Times recently said, ”In Mr. Toussaint’s long career as songwriter, arranger and producer he has honed a piano style that’s supportive and allusive, a little trill or tremolo sums up all the splashy joys of New Orleans patriarchs like Professor Longhair and James Booker, and a syncopated chord under right-hand octaves summons gospel. Mr. Toussaint has the two-fisted, rippling vocabulary of the city’s piano legacy, but he uses it in dapper ways.”

Toussaint’s children, Alison Toussaint-LeBeaux and Clarence Reginald Toussaint, who have long served as their father’s managers, said of the American Tunes album, ”Our father approached this project with great care and understanding of the songs selected and paid true homage to Professor Longhair, his musical hero. He wanted to bring as much of the Toussaint touch as he could to these wonderful classics.”

Nonesuch previously released The Bright Mississippi in 2009. Also produced by Henry, the record includes songs by jazz greats such as Sidney Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton, Django Reinhardt, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, and Billy Strayhorn. The album received tremendous critical praise, with the Boston Globe saying it ”couldn’t sound more like New Orleans. (Toussaint) revisits jazz classics … and takes them for a stroll through Preservation Hall, imbuing his own funky brand of pop-song charisma. The results are coolly sophisticated, an unfussy, mostly instrumental set of slink-and-slide joints shot through with a harmonic imagination that turns even a traditional hymn into an after-hours swing … Toussaint’s musical soul guides all, making the classics sound like his own.”

That project indirectly grew from Toussaint’s contributions to Our New Orleans, the benefit album that Nonesuch released in fall 2005 to aid hurricane victims in the wake of the Katrina disaster. That collection opens with a version of ”Yes We Can Can,” the Toussaint song the Pointer Sisters made famous, newly recorded with producer Joe Henry, and it included a solo piano piece, ”Tipitina and Me,” co-written by Toussaint in tribute to Professor Longhair.

Joe Henry had first worked with Toussaint when he invited the pianist to join the sessions for I Believe to My Soul, a studio convocation of mature R&B stars. Henry subsequently acted as producer on Toussaint’s post-Katrina collaboration with Elvis Costello, The River in Reverse. He describes the most recent sessions: ”I have been working with Allen Toussaint – under his spell and subject to his influence – for a full decade now. He was a quiet radical, musically-speaking, and a prince of great humility.”

Black Tie Electrons – Disco Of Decay
Friday, September 19th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Black Tie Electrons – Disco Of Decay

Maduk & Nymfo – Crossroads / Ordinary Ways
Friday, June 7th, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Maduk & Nymfo – Crossroads / Ordinary Ways

Image: 1580272 After the release of the classy ‘Blame / Warm Winters’ from the phenomenal Hybrid Minds, Allsorts continue to bring the quality Drum and Bass with another slick release, this time from Maduk & Nymfo.

After only beginning to produce in 2011, Maduk has already had releases on the likes of Liquicity, Fokuz and the mighty Hospital Recordings. After 2012 saw him clock over 2 million plays on Youtube for his track ‘Ghost Assassin (feat. Veela)’ as well as winning the official Viper Recordings Beatport remix contest for Matrix & Futurebound’s ‘All I Know’, Maduk is set for an even bigger 2013. Alongside him is Nymfo, one of the most cutting edge producers on the scene. Known for his precise, gritty style Nymfo has earned releases on some of Drum and Bass most enduring labels including Commercial Suicide, Samurai Music, Critical Recordings and Goldie’s legendary Metalheadz. Now the two varied producers join forces for two cuts of precise, soulful classic Drum and Bass on Allsorts.

Crossroads – A progressive rolling Drum and Bass track, ‘Crossroads’ is a blend of rich vocal snippets and crystal clear synths. Chugging forward with intricate percussion, a warm bassline and subtle synth work, ‘Crossroads’ has soul and precision in equal measure.

Ordinary Ways – The flipside sees both producers combine their unique styles to once again form another classy slice of Drum and Bass. Combining distinctive vocals with rolling drums and bags of atmosphere, ‘Ordinary Ways’ packs in attitude with original percussion, and the result is another sick joint effort.

Support : Matrix & Futurebound, Metrik, London Elektricity, High Contrast, Camo & Krooked, Netsky, The Prototypes, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, John B, Crissy Cris and Grooverider to name a few. Available from 20.05.2013
