Various – Uncanny Vacation (Ltd)

Image: 1593655 Uncanny Valley and Permanent Vacation are joining forces for an Uncanny Vacation! There has always been a lively exchange between Dresden and Munich and both labels are known for releasing a wide variety of music so it was only natural to team up for a joint release.

The record starts off with Permanent Vacation-regular and UK-veteran DMX Krew and his “Astro Logical” which is as sharp and crisp as Electro can go. The bass line strikes hard but he also squeezes some great melancholic synth lines out of his machines. After that, Uncanny Valley’s Sandrow M finally gives access to the much in demand live version of “Prayervan”, a tune that everybody has been singing along during his live sets.

On the flipside, Jacob Korn (who already released on both labels) hands in “Eieiei” which rises on a percussion-heavy drum basement to a discoid House stomper thanks to an irresistible sample straight from an obscure flea market find. Last but not least, Drvg Cvltvre from the Netherlands delivers a tropical House jam. “See You Again” is riding on a funky Disco bass line and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere with a whole bag of sound ideas.

Alexander Dorn aka Credit 00 adds his graphical talents to the record’s sleeve with a brilliant tribute to 1990s adventure video games.

Tracklist:
A1: DMX Krew – Astro Logical
A2: Sandrow M – Prayervan (Live Version)
B1: Jacob Korn – Eieiei
B2: Drvg Culture – See You Again Someday Available from 05.12.2014

TRACKLIST

F1. Sebastian Mullaert – Shadowed By I
F2. Dense & Pika – 2 Steps Back

It would be fair to say that Hypercolour , the UK label founded by
Alex Jones and Jamie Russell , have come a long way since the
label’s inception 10 years ago.
From humble beginnings, to a roster of artists spanning across
continents, genres, styles, and sounds, the label curates a very
special 16 track compilation album to celebrate ten years of
operation , and to capture the essence of the label’s ethos and
energies that have been at the forefront of the label’s output in
recent times.
Over the years, Hypercolour have represented and nurtured young
talent within the house, techno and bass communities, with Jones
and Russell enlisting the A&R assistance (and all important extra
pair of ears) of Ste Roberts to help steer the label’s direction.
Household names, such as Maya Jane Coles , Huxley and Mosca , all
achieved considerable success on the label with singles that really
captured dance music’s shift back into the mainstream, with clever,
sophisticated and pop-centric house music. Representing a more left
of centre sound, the likes of Kris Wadsworth , Glimpse and Tom
Demac have developed into artists with a wide sonic palette and
career to boot, whilst long serving ‘legends’ of the scene, such as
Luke Vibert (and his Kerrier District alias), Laurent Garnier and
Groove Armada have all signed up to the labels vision and direction
for well received singles and albums.
A glance at the all-star cast on ‘Hypercolour 10 Years’ reveals
appearances by some of the aforementioned producers (Vibert,
Demac) and also presents brand new material from the current crop
of musical misfits currently shaping and influencing the Hypercolour
sound. A breadth of deep techno, raw and uncompromising house
music, frenetic breakbeat and old school flavours are delivered in
style by the likes of Roman Flugel , FaltyDL , Matthew Herbert ,
DMX Krew , Dense & Pika , A Sagittariun and The Analogue Cops .
The quality remains at the highest level throughout as tempos and
moods dip and dive, with Sebastian Mullaert , Yaleesa Hall X Malin ,
Gary Gritness , Matt Karmill and Neil Landstrumm all giving us
their very best and helping the label move into it’s eleventh year in
very rude health!

It all started at a Detroit strip club, with a platter of deep-fried beef taquitos and a dancer whose face looked a bit like Burt Reynolds. It was here that Sam Baker first met a self-described fan of his, who told him to take his music work more seriously. Sam had long since graduated from […]

Beneficence – Basement Chemistry
Friday, January 8th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Beneficence – Basement Chemistry

Image: 1601530 After dropping back to back classics with “Sidewalk Science” (2011)
and “”Concrete Soul”” (2012), Brick City veteran and Ill Adrenaline
Records co-founder Beneficence unleashes his 6th solo LP
“Basement Chemistry”. Armed with the true sounds of the golden
era Benef drops rejuvenated flows and shares mics with hip-hop’s
elite lyricists. The lineup includes Inspectah Deck (of Wu-Tang Clan),
Masta Ace, MC Eiht, El Da Sensei, AG (of D.I.T.C), Dres (of Black
Sheep), The Legion, Chubb Rock, MindsOne, and Estee Nack (of
Tragic Allies).
Once again the close Artifacts affiliate traps the listener into slick,
thought provoking rhymes backed by hard hitting yet soulful
production from DJ Spinna, Da Beatminerz, 12 Finger Dan,
Confidence, L’Orange, Presto, KON Sci, Jazz Spastiks, and many
more. 19-tracks strong, the dusty and raw sounding full length
displays a perfect blend of street jewels like the Inspectah Deck
laced “Digital Warfare” and the Masta Ace inspiring anthem “When
The Sun Comes”.
The P Original produced banger “Easy As 1-2” opens the album
brilliantly showing Benef’s relaxed but witty cadence. “Basement
Chemistry” travels down many avenues including the battle rap
driven joint “Against The Grain” and storytelling saga “Maui Vacation”.
The album’s formula stays true to the game with obscure samples,
intricate cuts, and official boom bap sound.

Jacques Renault – Silver Machines
Wednesday, September 30th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Jacques Renault – Silver Machines

Image: 1600042 jacques Renault delivers two rare and fiery original tracks for his second release on esteemed US label Public Release, complete with remixes from Velvet Season & The Hearts Of Gold plus a Force Of Nature remix.

‘Silver Machines’ is Public Release’s eighth pressing and Renault’s second of 2015. The double single comes packaged in a deluxe jacket designed by highly acclaimed visual artist Takeshi Murata (recently featured in the New York Times). It blasts off with the schizophrenic, brain-melting groove of ‘Silver Machines’ that zips through its five minute runtime thanks to the fantastic union of precise, frenetic drums and a rolling funk bass riff. The flip finds Velvet Season & the Hearts of Gold (Gerry Rooney of Black Cock and Joel Martin of Quiet Village) slipping the original a tab of acid and getting weird.

On disc two, ‘Fromage à Trois’ is rooted in industrial percussion that sits below an elastic hook, giving the cold drums a human warmth. Japanese dons of disco Force of Nature take a swing and wrap the package on a high note. Their mix pulls the motorik drums back, to make way for a hypnotic loop that evokes thoughts of OSTs from 80s teen flicks, the sort of stuff Tangerine Dream excelled at for a good while. The song fades out and Mr. Renault’s auspicious return to Public Release ends as abruptly as it began. Let’s hope chapter three takes less than five years to be written.

Jacques Renault has been riding the waves of underground credibility for the past few years, initially renowned for being the master of the edit and releasing music on internationally acclaimed labels DFA, Permanent Vacation, RVNG, and Rekids, he has since become a producer in his own right, using samples as more of an adornment or starting point than a centerpiece.

Tim Sweeney kicked off the Public Release release schedule back in 2009. They have since focused on quality rather than quantity with only eight releases in six years including recent contributions from Woolfy and Mike Simonetti.

TRACK LISTING:

A1 – Silver Machines
B1 – Silver Machines (Velvet Season & The Hearts of Gold Remix)
C1 – Fromage a Trois
D1 – Fromage a Trois (Force of Nature Remix) Available from 16.10.2015

Lake People – Purposely Uncertain Field (2LP + CD)
Friday, December 26th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Lake People – Purposely Uncertain Field (2LP + CD)

Image: 1593997 Martin Enke or Lake People as the majority has become to know him has definitely taken his time for his debut album “Purposely Uncertain Field”, given his success from an early stage on and the quick development of the distinctive Lake people sound. But it wasn’t until 2012’s “Point in Time” EP on Krakatau that his music became enjoyable for a wider audience.

Thanks to Dixon & Ame and numerous other DJs, who included the tracks in their sets and mixes the “Point in Time” EP can be considered a big game changer in Lake People’s career. Without riding a big hype wave Martin lived up to the increasing expectations with a bunch of EPs, on which he refined his production skills. Following the popularity of his own music, Martin also became a sought-after remixer for such acts as Lusine on Ghostly International or Dixon & Guy Gerber on Gerber’s newly found Rumours label. A loyal fan base of his meditative, somehow spiritual, yet powerful house sound grew over the years and made Martin an in demand producer and celebrated live act.

After the fertile collaboration on the “Uneasy Hiding Places” EP (including the stand-out track “Brooklyn”) and a contribution on the third chapter of the “If This Is House I Want My Money Back” compilation, Martin has found in Permanent Vacation the perfect home for his debut album. On “Purposely Uncertain Field” Lake People doesn’t fall into the trap of repeating himself or recreating a successful formula. Instead he puts all his musical knowledge and his experience into the eleven tracks of the album and expands his already rich sound universe. Above his straighter dancefloor aspects Martin elaborates his approaches to a certain mid 90’s electronica vibe and ambient-like soundscapes with a very cinematic feel to it. Thus he brilliantly manages the difficult task of creating a transcendent and consistent album without losing any tension over the full length.

Kool Keith – Love And Danger
Thursday, August 1st, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Kool Keith – Love And Danger

Image: 1582401 Now on vinyl! Kool Keith’s critically acclaimed solo album Love & Danger produced by Dj Junkaz Lou and featuring Def Squad brainiac MC Keith Murray, and NYC’s groundbreaking combo Megabone.

An original member of New York’s new-school pioneers the Ultramagnetic MCs, Keith Thornton is best known as a solo rapper. His signature styles stream-of-consciousness lyrical flow and complex vocals, two skills that earn him a perennial nod from the underground hip-hop community. The average Kool Keith album is peppered with bizarre, disjointed, even delusional or disassociated themes, concepts, and references. Nearly all of his albums incorporate a satirical dislike for more commercialized strains of hip-hop, as well as major record label scams.
After single-handedly redefining “warped” as the mind and mouth behind the Bronx-based Ultramagnetic MC’s, “Kool” Keith Thornton — aka Rhythm X, aka Dr. Octagon, aka Dr. Dooom, aka Mr. Gerbik — headed for the outer reaches of the stratosphere with a variety of solo projects. A onetime psychiatric patient at Bellevue, Keith’s lyrical thematics remained as free-flowing here as they ever were with the N.Y. trio, connecting up complex meters with fierce, layers-deep metaphors and veiled criticisms of those who “water down the sound that comes from the ghetto.” His own debut single, “Earth People” by Dr. Octagon, was quietly released in late 1995 on the San Francisco-based Bulk Recordings, and the track spread like wildfire through the hip-hop underground, as did the subsequent self-titled full-length released the following year.
Since then, Kool Keith has dropped numerous critically acclaimed and lyrically genius records. Tashan Dorrsett, another concept- driven release from Keith, was released in 2009. Following early 2011 is the “Legend Of Tashan Dorrsett” remix album including remixes and exclusives by Hip-Hop legends Marley Marl, Domingo, Ultrmagnetic’s TR Love, Agallah Don Bishop to name a few. Early 2012, Keith released the single “Anorexic” (labeled as a Ultramagnetic track) and flooded the internet with the hit records New York and The Game Is Free.

Then a German journalist wrote: “The KDMS could be for the new underground disco scene what Moloko were […]
