Veteran Italian hardware lover Bochum Welt returns with ‘April’, due on !K7 as their first ever Record Store Day release in April 2017. ‘April’ is a broad 16 track exploration of ambient and downtempo that revisits and re-edits a selection of old works as well as offering up brand new music – and sees the first release on vinyl of all tracks compiled here.
Real name Gianluigi Di Costanzo, Bochum Welt has long been experimenting with his various machines, and as far back as 1994 was releasing on Aphex Twin’s influential Rephlex label. He went on to put out many EPs and three full lengths there, as well as linking with BMG and Sony Music Japan. He is an accomplished musical engineer, sound designer and master of electronic atmospheres, and in his time he has made it into The Wire’s Top 15 albums of the year, and has also worked with the legendary Thomas Dolby’s California based Beatnik and Headspace Inc. Live, he has opened for Aphex Twin and Thomas Dolby, often the sketches on display in ‘April’ form the basis for Welt’s live show, having been transposed using various vintage pedals and sound manglers. All of these accomplishments are proven here across short but absorbing tracks which are all previously unreleased or newly reworked. A number of
the selected tracks here previously appeared on ‘R.O.B. ( Robot Operating Buddy)’ and on ‘Good Programs (To Be Coloured In Yellow)’, originally released on Rephlex in 2008 and 2013 respectively but never before on
vinyl. Among these, the likes of ‘Garden (NYC Mix)’ showcase a return to the originals with an inventive re-edit and re-invigoration. Additionally, ‘Ghost’ and ’Azure’ are brand new and previously unheard material from Bochum Welt – the former a beautiful daydream introduction to ‘April’, and the latter an equally atmospheric bookend to the release. Indeed, from crunchy beats overlaid with pixelated pads to blissfully organic and spring-like sound tracks via tender piano laced ambient numbers, the music on ‘April’ is never less than beautiful. It can be heavenly yet of this world, but also synthetic and computerised. Together, though, it makes for dynamic and standalone work that is utterly timeless. Expressive and personal throughout, this album is about sound research and melodic sensibility and is as technically awe inspiring as it is purely enjoyable.
‘April’ sees its release on clear blue vinyl on Record Store Day worldwide (22nd April 2017) through !K7

Colm K – Time

Image: 1606522 R2 present the new single from Colm K.

1. Time feat Aisling Kelly
2. Time Again
3. Uncertainty

Irish DJ & Producer Colm K has been playing at his renowned monthly “Sunday Times!” for seven years and running, but began his interaction with the international music world after his selection for the Red Bull Music Academy in Rome 2003. This resulted in producing studio projects for Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, (including remix duties with Mr Scruff) and Brian Deady, as well as releasing music on Brownswood and Bastard Jazz. He’s also been featured on Ransome Note, Stamp The Wax and a Boiler Room mix.

Having appeared on R2 Records for Seven Davis Jr’s comp “Future Society” we are happy to announce Colm K has produced an exquisite E.P. for us, each of the three tracks showcasing his versatility.

“Time” is a down tempo soul burner, the beats tight, the production crisp and the vocals of Aisling Kelly riding beautifully.

“Time Again” picks things up with a mid-tempo house track to melt any dance floor. Floating melodies cut with Colm’s signature crisp beats creating a steady growing soulful beast.

Finally “Uncertainty” sees Colm revert to funk break territory, but this time flips it with soulful chords, evolving into a delicious deep groove and synth workout before gently bringing us back down to Earth.

R2 Records are happy to present the first full-length project from Karizma’s alter ego Kaytronik. From his earliest days as part of Baltimore’s premier crew – The Basement Boys – Kris Klayton was never one to stay in a musical box, always probing beyond the constraints of the soulful house domain. His Kaytronik persona, (previously reserved for remixes of other artists and a single on Atjazz Recordings) has allowed him greater freedom to explore beat syncopation, mood and impassioned expression further with an album that showcases his ability to work at any tempo, with a variety of styles, but always with the emotional content intact. “Thee Album” contains electronic explorations of down tempo emotive beats, club bangers and impossible to categorize grooves, not to mention thought provoking messages about where we stand in the current global climate.

Strange Faith – Love And Poverty (LP+MP3)
Friday, July 31st, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Strange Faith – Love And Poverty (LP+MP3)

Image: 1598278 Love & Poverty is the debut album from Strange Faith, a new collaborative project involving country soul singer-songwriter Jeb Loy Nichols and jazz/soul/folk producer and composer Benedic Lamdin, acclaimed for his output under the Nostalgia 77 moniker alongside work with the likes of Valerie June, Jamie Cullum and Prince Fatty.

Strange Faith brings a rich and vibrant, breezy and jazz-inflected twist on the laid-back soul sound and earthy lyrical slant that has seen Wales-based American artist Nichols crowned the “high priest of country cool” by Rolling Stone magazine.

Although his voice is unmistakable, ‘Love & Poverty’ is a far cry from being a Nichols solo effort, and it shines with the essential and equal input of a talented ensemble: in attendance at the original session, held at drummer Antonio Feola’s studio, were Jeb Loy Nichols on guitar and vocals, Feola himself on drums, Ned Crowther on bass and vocals, and Lamdin playing guitar.

Like many of the projects with which Lamdin is involved this one grew initially from an informal session that turned into something too special to ignore, and became a repeat occurrence. “Every month or so we then got together for a couple of days and cut new tunes or added and changed others”, recalls Lamdin, “I don’t think anyone thought any more of it than just playing and recording for the sake of it. The sessions were always fun and mercifully free of expectation. Anything that didn’t work fell by the wayside. Nobody mourned the lost. The result is a record of simple, straightforward songs, recorded as we found them.”

The sound of this album is infused with the contrasting atmospheres of the inner London location where the sessions took place and the Welsh countryside, where Nichols lives and where the songs started their lives.

“I took daily walks last summer up and down the hill that leads to my home, and all the songs just seemed to spring out my footsteps,” he elaborates, “Maybe that’s why they’re all roughly the same tempo – a walking tempo – some faster (going down hill) and some slower (coming up hill).”

Tracklist (CD / LP):
1 / A1. Sun Gone West
2 / A2. Hard Work In (Good Lovin Out)
3 / A3. Fair Weather
4 / A4. Just A Man
5 / A5. My Old Friend

7 / B1. Walking Over
8 / B2. Just A Few Feet From The Gutter
9 / B3. Tell Me Why
10 / B4. Sweetest Sweetheart
11 / B5. Say Thank You

Piscean Group originally formed as part of an astrological union founding
members and initial line up Sir Robert & Osunlade share. Since its
conception, Osunlade has created an open coalition of musicians from his
childhood home St Louis. As an open forum, the group has no real
members and is a voice for all writers, musicians and performers alike. The
non-credit of participants gives the groups identity a backseat to the sheer
pleasure of the music.
Their self titled debut e.p. released on R2 Records and was an intro of sorts
to the groups intention. With their first full length project the approach is that
of a soundtrack. With an open landscape and no actual movie to score, the
group’s imagination was allowed to go from soft to hard groove, and throw
in a few cameo performances from Osunlade and rising LA pianist Daniel
Crawford.

Manu Delago – Silver Kobalt (LP+MP3)
Friday, February 27th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Manu Delago – Silver Kobalt (LP+MP3)

Image: 1595042 Manu Delago combines his mastery of the Hang – a rare and enchanting instrument – with bold arrangements, irresistible melodies and multi-layered beats on his Tru Thoughts debut Silver Kobalt. The young Austrian composer/multi-instrumentalist is highly in demand and has worked with Björk, Anoushka Shankar and The Cinematic Orchestra. This ambitious LP brings his stunning solo project into the spotlight like never before, drawing influence from pop to the avant-garde and featuring guest vocals from Isa Kurz, Anil Sebastian and Rahel.

The album ranges from hypnotic melodies and pristine bassy pop, to the more calm and enchanting sounds fashioned by the Hang. Other songs on the record explore harsh electronic sounds and experimental instrumentation, showcasing an exhilarating range of styles.

Aged just 30, Manu Delago is the world’s leading Hang player and possesses equally virtuosic skills as a percussionist and drummer alongside ever maturing instincts as a songwriter and producer. The accessible yet startlingly original sound of ‘Silver Kobalt’ draws on the experience and ideas built up by the London based Austrian native across a high-flying and diverse career to date. From overachieving teenaged rock bands, through extensive classical training, from his exploits at the cutting edge of art pop as the lynchpin of Björk’s band, to a London Symphony Orchestra commission which saw him playfully subverting their expectations, this endlessly curious artist has been honing his own style rich in melody, wit and invention.

Tying together the many sonic threads is co-producer Matt Robertson (Björk, The Prodigy, The Streets, Bat For Lashes), following his work on Delago’s acclaimed 2013 LP ‘Bigger Than Home’, the record on which he began to truly develop his current sound. This is a sound that revolves around the unique timbre of the Hang, but encompasses much more, from acoustic percussion, bassoon, piano and chimes to multi-layered beats and a variety of synths.

“Amazing percussionist and hang player” – Björk
“A masterful and sensitive musician” – The Telegraph
“Virtuoso” – The Times
“The world’s leading hang player” – Financial Times

Saturday, January 3rd, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Nile Rodgers – Do What You Wanna Do Remixes (MK / The Reflex)

Image: 1594484 Fresh from stealing the show last year with his Daft Punk collaborations, the guitar wizard Nile Rodgers has teamed up with CR2 Records once again to create the ‘Do What You Want To Do’ (IMS Anthem).

The song was originally released last year with an Eats Everything remix and now it gets a shiny 2014 makeover and a new set of remixes. Who better to give the track a once over than fellow man-of-the-moment MK.

Also stepping up to remix the package is London-based French native Nicolas Laugier, aka The Reflex, fascinated by the remix from an early age, he takes his cue from the first wave of disco remixes by using only the original sounds from the master tapes (or stems) to breathe new life into soul, pop and disco classics. Imaginative arrangements, boxfresh sonics and intricate editing make The Reflex Revisions rocket fuel for every DJ set & this version of the legend that is Nile Rodgers will certainly not disappointed….

Karizma – Wall Of Sound

Image: 1582411 Since his last studio album in 2009 Baltimore native DJ Karizma has been constantly touring the globe bringing his inimitable DJ sets to the people of Earth. Having finally got the urge to go back into the studio sometime last year, Karizma locked himself away for six weeks as he got into his most creatively prolific spell for years. R2 Records are proud to announce the result of this endeavour – “Wall Of Sound”.
Having submitted 43 tracks for this album, (we couldn’t get him to stop making new tracks!) we finally honed, pruned and arranged the material into 3 varying formats: Double CD, Double Vinyl and Bonus Digital Album.
Karizma has once again pushed himself beyond the limits of his previous work, evolving his trademark club bangers and down-tempo beats as well as adding a variety of new and sometimes impossible to categorise music to his armoury, emotional content being the unifying factor.
Karizma has also called on some of dance music heavyweights to collaborate on the album including the mighty Osunlade (Yoruba Records), Rokaz (Neil Pierce & Ziggy Funk), and rising UK talent Sean McCabe.

KEY SELLING POINTS:
· Double CD with 31 original tracks
· Double Vinyl with 2 exclusive tracks
· Featuring guest appearances by Osunlade, Rokaz & Sean McCabe
· Explores a variety of genres including House, Hip-Hop, Dub, Tech.
· Karizma’s first studio album for four years
· Launch parties in various territories.
