JokA – Augenzeuge (Ltd. Polaroid Box)
Friday, July 24th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on JokA – Augenzeuge (Ltd. Polaroid Box)

Press Quotes:
“Of the records Ayler made during 1964, the LP New York Eye and Ear Control…is probably the most important link
between the epoch-making collective improvisation Free Jazz by the Ornette Coleman double quartet, and John
Coltrane’s Ascension. Apart from that, it is—in my opinion—one of Ayler’s very best recordings. New York Eye and Ear
Control owes a large part of its success to the contrasting temperaments of the three musicians used by Albert Ayler in
addition to his trio, namely, trumpeter Don Cherry, trombonist Roswell Rudd and alto saxophonist John Tchicai. Don
Cherry improvises in broad melodic lines or places sharply accented staccato passages. Roswell Rudd interposes
fragmentary flourishes in the highest register, or growl sounds and glissandos in the manner of the old tailgate
trombonists. John Tchicai presents the polarity of a slightly ‘cool,’ linear style and offers motivic linkage by insistently
repeating melodic patterns. All three inspire Albert Ayler to a breadth of expression which is too often missing in his
improvisations with smaller groups. There is less limitation to his sound-span playing, more contrast, more punch and
rhythmic accentuation, and with quick response Ayler takes motives from Cherry, Rudd and Tchicai, transforms them
into his own musical idiom, and in turn gives a new direction to the flow of ideas.” – Free Jazz by Ekkehard Jost
“The music is fiery but with enough colorful moments to hold one’s interest throughout.” – Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
“…a valuable window into the music’s early history as well as what might have happened outside record dates, more
than one is usually privy to.” – Clifford Allen, AllAboutJazz.com

The Frightnrs – More To Say Versions (LP+MP3)

Clipse – Til The Casket Drops
Tuesday, June 13th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Clipse – Til The Casket Drops

Image: 1610503 The contemporary realm of hip hop music can be seen as polarized between two sides, mainstream versus underground, industry versus independent, at a base level
boiled down to catchy sounds & infective hooks over higher quality lyrical content. These elements don’t need to be mutually exclusive, but these days it’s rare to find an
act that can please all sides of the discussion. Clipse are one of the few groups that successfully and consistently caters to both sides of rap’s splintered psyche,
simultaneously serving the scene with upbeat bangers that get the club poppin’ & subwoofers rattlin’ while crafting clever quotable compositions deserving of repeated
headphone submersions. Though their preceding official albums Lord Willin’ (2002) & Hell Hath No Fury (2006) made bigger splashes commercially, 2009’s Til The
Casket Drops is surely no slouch, a gem which deserves to be revisited with fresh ears – good thing Get On Down has given it the proper treatment it deserves with its
first-ever vinyl pressing!
Til The Casket Drops was a departure from the duo of Malice & Pusha T’s previous works in that it was their first LP not completely produced by The Neptunes. However,
the celebrated team who brought us ‘Grinding’ & ‘Mr. Me Too’ still helmed 8 of the album’s 13 tracks, thus dominating the soundscapes and aesthetic of the album
anyway. With the remaining beats handled by Hitmen Sean C & LV (Jay-Z, Big Pun, Ghostface) and Aftermath’s DJ Khalil (Kendrick Lamar, Aloe Blacc, Eminem) clearly
Clipse stock hadn’t lowered in the game. While boasting notable vocal features from Kanye West, Pharrell, Cam’ron, Keri Hilson, Yo Gotti & their Re-Up Gang affiliate
Ab-Liva, Casket Drops leaves ample space for the core emcee duo of Pusha & Malice to shine in the spotlight, with verses revolving around each other succinctly
in-synch and bonded by an exceptional creative rhythm only biological brothers could share.
Clipse have always delighted in dualities, juxtapositions and contradictions, unabashedly celebrating the capitalistic lifestyle and the grind as the kings of ‘coke-rap’, while
taking hard looks at society’s mores and those of their own individual journeys. We hear Malice’s eventual transition to No Malice taking form on this album as he found
religion, warning others who might follow in his path on ‘Footsteps’: “don’t let my wrongs give you the right of way/ to emulate my past escaping the law’s grasp” while
refusing to be pinned down in one lane: “it weights on my conscience and I hate conscious rap”. Meanwhile Pusha T continues his lyrical ascent into the King Push
persona with bars like “pompous motherfucker, look what them jewels made me/ I’m only finding comfort in knowing you can’t replace me/ What a thing to say, but what
am I to do/ I’m role-playing a conscious nigga and true is true/ Cocaine aside, all of the bloggers behooved/ My critics finally have a verse of mine to jerk off to”
decisively on album opener “Freedom”.
Since it dropped, the Clipse have stated that Casket… is their final album together while subsequently alluding to the possibility of an eventual reunion. Only time will tell,
but until then it’s time to re-celebrate one of hip hop’s most dynamic duos by hearing Til The Casket Drops in a whole new light with its long-overdue, first time on vinyl
pressing via Get On Down featuring all 13 original tracks on wax and cover art by the legendary KAWS! It’s kinda like a big deal…

Now let’s discover the Dub version of Ennenne. Dub is a unique discipline. A strange and sometimes unpredictable music practice. It was just after the release of Ennenne that we decided to take back the multi track recordings and start to rework the music through the mixer. In order to give a new shape to the project, we thought it was a good idea to invite some of the best producers and musicians on the Dub Scene. Following a very natural process, our vision began to take the shape of an International All Star event, including contributions from historical Dub artists such as Adrian Sherwood, Lee Scratch Perry, Dennis Bovell, and actual celebrities of today such as Gaudi, Vibronics, Manasseh, Khalab & Messmorize, and Mario Conte one the most interesting producers on the Italian experimental scene. A bunch of old and new friends with whom we share the same vision.

Onry Ozzborn – DUO
Friday, September 9th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Onry Ozzborn – DUO

Image: 1606336 NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!!For over a decade, Seattle based emcee Michael S. Martinez aka Onry Ozzborn of the group Grayskul (Rhymesayers Ent) has been known for a brooding style of hip-hop. Today, Onry preps his fifth–and boldest–album to date, called DUO on Fake Four Inc. With a guest on each track, Onry’s features range from Homeboy Sandman and Aesop Rock to the indie musician Nathan Quiroga (of Iska Dhaaf). ”I didn’t plan it this way,” explains Onry. ”I got a couple features who I really wanted and then, as I laid out the tracks, it became a story. Other names popped into my head who would round out the album.” In addition, Onry recruits a wide range of producers–SmokeM2D6, Void Pedal Latrell Jamesand Jack Rylands–which results in a hip-hop album imbued with electronic, folk, and punk. On the first track, ”Nineteen” with Aesop Rock, Onry sets the tone by collaborating with an artist who’s always pushed the boundaries musically. On ”Flee the Colony,” Onry and Nathan Quiroga take a very different turn towards the indie rock. ”No time to Waste,” featuring Living Legends crew member Eligh, is a motivational, up-tempo call to living life for today. ”Both Eligh & I have made it through rough times,” explains Onry. So he was the perfect emcee to collaborate with on this. Rounding out the album, there’s ”Firefly”, featuring LA rapper Pigeon John which is walk into the lighter side of life. Onry got his start in 1997 in Seattle as part of the supergroup Oldominion, considered to be the definitive hip-hop collective of the Northwest. Starting in 2000, Onry formed the group Grayskul with JFK and released titles like Bloody Radio and Graymaker, among many others on Rhymesayers Ent. Later, as a solo artist Onry released noted projects such as: Alone The Grey Area, The Gigantics, and Hold On For Dear Life. Today, Onry has joined a perfect place for him, the Fake Four Inc family, where he started his own label Ted Records. Onry is also releasing a short thirteen film version of his project, called ”Soundlapse,” which will be available mid February, along with an accompanying Polaroid book. Available from 02.09.2016

Frankee – Clap Your Hands / Love & Peace
Friday, September 2nd, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Frankee – Clap Your Hands / Love & Peace

Image: 1606177 Frankee has stood as one of the most hotly tipped producers on Ram’s roster, catapulting himself onto the scene with aggressive and divisive dancefloor slayers. However, having two decades within the game already notched on his musical bed post, the producer has cemented himself within the genre’s trophy cabinet. And he’s returning after a brief hiatus with two brand new pieces of sonic artwork to take you into Summer’s final months, a farewell to the festival stages his anthems have been played from.

Receiving support from Ram’s head honcho Andy C, who’s pedestalled his sound since it was first discovered by the revered veteran, and radio tastemakers alike, Frankee has a firm history behind him with previous releases. His next single ‘Clap Your Hands’ and ‘Love & Peace’ present two immensely different tracks which epitomize why Frankee’s music has garnered such a backing, whilst exposing the polar opposites of his sound. Whether you were looking for the pounding, bassline driven layers of ‘Drop it Low’ or the more ethereal, heart-felt vibe of his Loadstar ‘Away’ remix, this single channels both sides of the coin.

Your first introduction to Frankee’s return is via ‘Clap Your Hands’, once again platforming the sub-driven records he’s famed for. Building up into a cascading drop whilst grinding LFO provides the steps, it’s difficult not to be pulled in by its relentless beats and quick-fire drum patterns. With metallic vocal samples adding encouragement between each segment, Frankee is back and carrying the weaponry which made him so dangerous behind the decks.

On the reverse, ‘Love and Peace’ adds another dimension, not only proving Frankee’s production capabilities, but also a contrast in musical attitudes. Natural yet still synthetic, it brings together shaking percussion and female vocals in a way that curtails both the light and dark shades of his skillset. A blissful liquid roller that carries itself from start to finish, it features nostalgic breaks whilst keeping a mechanical continuity.

This next output proves Frankee is back… And just like before, he’s demonstrating why he’s become a quintessential part in people’s libraries.

Almamegretta are masters in combining a wide range of elements such as Dub, Funk, Reggae, World and Electronica, all filtered through their own deep southern Italian roots. The band from Naples is now back with a new album, mixed by the Dub Master Adrian Sherwood, who had already been involved in their mid-nineties masterpiece “Sanacore”. This new work consists of ten tracks, nine originals plus a well chosen cover of an old Neapolitan hit by Nino d’Angelo transformed into a Lovers Rock style song. Almamegretta’s original line up of Gennaro T Tesone, Paolo Polcari and Raiz is augmented by a great list of collaborators and the result is a strong and multi layered set made of Afro-Funk numbers, Reggae Ballads, and other Riddims, while the British Dub influence remains central within the group’s wide sound palette. The title “EnnEnne”, which means No Name, is inspired by the acronym used for those who are born from unknown parents. The right title for such a highly dense picture based on the combination of contemporary sounds and social topics.

Mius – Eigengrau
Friday, February 26th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Mius – Eigengrau

Image: 1601591 For five years now, Gergely Almos flies the flag high for the electronic music
scene in and from Budapest with his project Mius. The first two albums, „Behind
The Line“ und „Tessellation“ resulted from the collaboration with singer Julia
Horanyi. For his first piece on Sonar Kollektiv the Hungarian multiinstrumentalist
assembled a small armada of befriended musicians and singers
and created together with them the eleven astonishing tracks of “Eigengrau” (if
you look up in the dictionary you’ll find the following: Eigengrau is the is uniform
dark gray background that many people report seeing in the absence of light)
The album kicks off with the instrumental “Eyes Shut” in a gloomy mood which is
carried on on “Broken Words” with singer Laura Hahn. It’s this sort of lofty
wistfulness the next singer Dori Hegyi proclaims even more outspoken on
„Delusional“ and „The Hunting“. Gergely Almos’ productions never shy away
from grand emotions but always stay safe from ever becoming kitsch. By its
organic feel the live drumming by Kristóf Gulyás (f.e. on „Haumea“ or
„RRR“) or the bass playing by Tamás Mezey (on „Before the Rain“ and „The
Hunting“), as well as the guitar played by Almos himself set this work of
electronic melancholia notably apart from comparable productions. Not chilly
aesthetics by programmed machines and alienated voices govern “Eigengrau”
but an honest, true-to-life authenticity which can only, if you listen to all of this
closely, can come out of Budapest.
On “Strobe And Noise” Kasia Kowalczyk indulges herself in a weird dream
similar to most of the songs on this album overflowsing into beats suited for
estranged dance floors. All of the four featured vocalists on “Eigengrau” perfectly
fit into the concept by having exactly the acoustic colour reflecting Mius’ idea of a
very personal, but also genuine universal language. A truly intimate piece of
work, sharpened down to the last detail and, through its impression, probably a
boisterous and polarizing album.

Thursday, February 25th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Slug Christ – The Crucifixion Of Rapper Extraordinare,Slug Chris

Image: 1602562 Slug Christ is a rapper-producer based in Atlanta, Georgia. “My style is very 808 heavy. I’m very trap influenced, I´d like to consider myself doing the next version of trap music, more abstract.” Trap music boasts itself as some of today’s most tightly sequenced hip-hop music, but Slug Christ’s loose, drug-induced delivery has helped him establish his own style within the genre. If you miss the rawness that rap feels like it’s missing these days, then look no further than Slug Christ.

Undergrind: “Weird has become a cliche in hip-hop as of late, with spacey oddballs popping up all over the place. However, with Slug Christ, weird is truly an artform. As a member of Atlanta’s Awful rap collective, Slugger has become one of the hottest young hip-hop artists by opening his consciousness and releasing it onto the track for thousands to hear.”

Redbull.com: “As twisted as most of the members are from the diverse Atlanta rap collective that is Awful, Slug Christ is easily among its weirdest. And perhaps its most polarizing, too. His lackadaisical delivery registers close to the woozy rhyme schemes of fellow Awful member Ethereal, but Slug’s more about impressionistic channelings of his ‘fourth-dimensional’ self, wrapped here in his own mythological crucifixion. In fact, his Crucifixion Day is produced by Lucifer himself (Jesus produces its previous track, Wanderer), who together turn in one of the most epic, experimental rap tracks in recent memory. And it just gets more bizarre from there. Cameos by fellow Awful members Father, Lord Nard and Pyramid Quince top this fantastic release.”

The Spectrum: “In fact, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to state that Slug Christ is a pop artist who takes the sounds of mainstream hip-hop and reinvents them in his own unsettling, but enlightening way.”

Classic Entourage Magazine: “Music Heads: Slug † Christ is SWAG´s savior. Slug † Christ is an artist boom- ing onto the underground trap music scene. He recently performed at SXSW where he produced a killer set. Self de- scribed as ‘Just a guy.’ Slug † Christ is one of the new faces of trap. Making tracks with Father and Keith Ape this young entertainer is taking off.”

The Filthy Six – More Filth

Image: 1602260 Acid Jazz present More Filth the third album from The Filthy Six.

More Filth is the 3rd album bought to you from The Filthy Six. The album features their Michael Jackson potential cover Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, already filling floors around the country and to be heard on radio around the world it will be released on 7” vinyl through Acid Jazz Records on January 22nd.

The Filthy Six are fundamentally a jazz group containing some of the finest session musicians that music has to offer. Nick Etwell (Mumford and Sons) describes the process of making the album “More Filth” as follows…“with this record I wanted to lean heavily on the ‘Soul’ aspect of the Soul-Jazz moniker, with the dance floor very much in-mind whilst doing so. The influences here are as much the Atlantic/Stax artists as our Blue Note/Prestige forefathers, with our Ray Charles inspired ‘Watch What You’re Doin’ To Me’ and a Stax-esque reworking of Michael Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ (one of my all-time favourite tracks) providing extra flavour in our Filthy Soul stew. Throw in some Crescent City spice in the shape of Mr Morris (in tribute to the late, great Idris Muhammad ne Leo Morris) and Yes, Oui, Si, and we have a tasty sounding Gumbo on the menu tonight!”

Sebastian Fraye – Vol.1
Tuesday, January 19th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Sebastian Fraye – Vol.1

Image: 1601748 Sebastian Fraye’s VOL. 1 showcases a selection of instrumental
beats that were created between 2009 and 2014. A multitude of
both sampled and recorded instruments, tools and techniques were
used throughout the album. The thread that ties them all together
is through the use of vinyl. Sebastian felt that with his first official
album, he needed to honor the traditions of the beatmaking craft
and the artists that came before him—not only musically, but visually
as well. His album artwork is a curated collection of record store
album stickers that were acquired from his personal collection, some
of which were taken from records that were sampled in this very
album. As a designer, Sebastian feels that the stickers not only have
a beautiful aesthetic look, but represent the experience of buying
used records from dusty old stores, early Sunday morning swap
meets, or local thrift stores—often searching for hours on end until
something unique is found. VOL. 1 is truly a tribute to vinyl through
its assortment of 24 original beats.
About Sebastian Fraye:
California native Sebastian Fraye started out playing instruments
from a very young age, sparking an affinity for drums and beats.
Although a graphic designer by trade, his passion for music and
producing is endless. His approach to producing is spontaneous and
experimental—an exploration of cinematic soundscapes that takes
you to another world. Inspired by artists that came before him, he
pushes the boundaries of the expected to create his own sound. And
his love for music from around the world leaves no door closed when
it comes to what could potentially find its way into a new composition.
He enjoys digging for obscure sounds and instruments to include
into his music, often juxtaposing those from polar opposite origins.
He believes the best feeling that comes from creating music is when
you surprise yourself.

Don Cherry & Jon Appleton – Don / Jon
Tuesday, January 5th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Don Cherry & Jon Appleton – Don / Jon

Image: 1601448 Rare outtakes from early pioneering and controversial electronic jazz experiments presented on vinyl for the first time!

This previously unpressed music provides and absolutely essential insight into Zen master experimental jazz outrider Don Cherry on the eve of his fertile Holy Mountain period which saw the composer combine all his well-travelled influences – such as the free music incubation of France and Germany with the traditional instrumentation of India, north and west Africa – then return to New York with a technicolor dream team and a healthy appetite for emerging synthesisers and electronic music. This project between electro-acoustic pioneer and Synclavier developer Jon Appleton coincided with his own history defining years at Dartmouth College where he played an integral part in the formation of one of Americas first electronic music institutions. Recording benchmark LPs for Folkways Records and Flying Dutchman Jon collaborated with Cherry to create the album Human Music which tested the boundaries of electronic sound, jazz and ethnological disciplines in a series of melodic and rhythmical interfaces that would polarise both musical tastes, pop politics and potential spiritual beliefs in the process.

Recorded in the exact same sessions at Bregman Electronic Music Studio, Dartmouth College, New Hampshire the two tracks Don and Jon did not appear on the Human Music LP and now show a glimpse of what future unisons might have bequeathed before both artists coincidentally re-located to Sweden to pursue their individual and very specific journeys into contemporary music. Released with the blessing and encouragement of Appleton himself this record is quite simply a treasure of a dream-combination from the early doors of genuine alternative popular music. These rare sides combine the creative technology that directly coincided with the dawn of Bob Moog’s and Don Buchla’s synthesiser revolution with the homecoming of outernational free jazz which, in tandem, spearheaded America’s most radical music developments in the subsequent two decades and beyond. Don/Jon and The Human Music sessions also prelude Cherry’s further imminent electronic positioning alongside Carla Bley and Don Preston (on Escalator Over The Hill) and in film soundtracks for Jean Rollin collaborator Jean-Noël Delamare and Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain (with Walter Sear) before a hiatus from the for almost a decade. This extra glimpse of that important era, at the hands of these two pioneers, is now available in this very special package.

Piero Umiliani – Psichedelica (LP+CD)
Wednesday, October 7th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Piero Umiliani – Psichedelica (LP+CD)

Image: 1600186 Before talking about Psichedelica, one of the many and rare library albums signed by Piero Umiliani, we must step back in time, until June 1968, when Umiliani was working on the score of “Svezia Inferno e Paradiso” (Sweden Heaven and Hell), one of the many collaborations between director Luigi Scattini and the Maestro. In fact, a large part of the music recorded for that movie, one of Umiliani’s most popular works, would be later selected for this library release. Originally issued by the label Omicron, which pressed 200 copies, not even destined to be sold. Despite the title, a misleading “Psichedelica”, and a suitable colored cover, this LP walks – of course, one might say – along the lines of Scattini’s film soundtrack, among beat outbursts, orchestral tracks and some references to the rock sound of the time, as can be heard in the second of the two versions of “Hippies”.

Those who know will remeber that “Psichedelica” contains the first version of Umiliani’s most famous composition: “Mah-Nà Mah-Nà”, a track that will be a mixed blessing of his artistic life. Considered a filler and discarded from the soundtrack of “Svezia Inferno e Paradiso”, it was originally called “Viva la sauna svedese” (featuring Alessandro Alessandroni and his wife Julia on vocals, as well as in “Birra, Vermouth e Gin”), it was then retitled and re-released in the US a few months later, achieving unprecedented success and even ending up in the charts, later known as ‘The Muppet Show’s song’, it became almost immediately a world famous cult track, an authentic hallmark of Piero Umiliani’s popular genius.

This LP walks among beat outbursts, orchestral tracks and some references to the rock sound of the time. “Psichedelica” contains the first version of Umiliani’s most famous composition: “Mah-Nà Mah-Nà”, a track that will be a mixed blessing of his artistic life, here appearing as an outtake from the “Svezia Inferno e Paradiso” OST, under the title “Viva la sauna svedese”.

Jetzt ist Payback-Time in Südberlin.
