Black Moon – Enta Da Stage (2017 Remaster)
Thursday, October 5th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Black Moon – Enta Da Stage (2017 Remaster)

Image: 1615537 Composed of members Buckshot, 5ft, and DJ Evil Dee, Black Moon simultaneously kicked off and defned the rap renaissance of New York with the release of Enta Da Stage in 1993. Whereas plenty of earlier groups had spit rage-flled rhymes to tear down the world’s unjust establishments, no one had evoked brooding pathos or introspective anger quite like Black Moon. Underground hip-hop might have been dominated by the sunny sound of G-Funk when Enta Da Stage dropped, but from then on the scene turned to the dark side. Black Moon was rising. Earlier this year, Fat Beats Records presented the defnitive Enta Da Stage box set, which was reissued for the frst time across three formats (6xLP, 3xCD and 3xCassette). This album is the complete encapsulation of an era for anyone seeking to understand the origin and the essence of New York’s Golden Age.The box set included vocals, instrumentals and remixes plus extensive liner notes by David Ma (Pitchfork, Wax Poetics) with rare and unreleased visual ephemera in an 18 page booklet. The story of Black Moon, alongside their peers Biggie, Big L, Nas, Kool G Rap, and Wu Tang, reminds us that the bleakest times produce the most profound agents of cultural change. And as we stand at the precipice of a new age of anxiety, Enta Da Stage has never been more relevant… or more necessary.
Although Black Moon would go on to release three more albums – and its members would go on to greatness with Da Beatminerz, Boot Camp Klik, and various solo projects – Enta Da Stage remains the perfect distillation of tight lyrical menace, rowdy crew hooks, stripped down breaks, and deep basslines on all of its fourteen tracks. Although Enta Da Stage might stand in the shadow of East Coast albums such as Enter the WuTang (36 Chambers), Illmatic, Liquid Swords, Ready to Die, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, and The Infamous, history will remember that Enta Da Stage
preceded those releases. To understand Enta Da Stage is to understand the origin and the spirit of New York hip-hop once and for all.

MC’s Buckshot and 5 Ft. shine on the mic, exuding supreme confdence through their brash delivery and charisma, while on the musical side, DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt make their mark with their distinctively jazzy yet grimy lo-f production as Da Beatminerz
• Making their production debut with Enta Da Stage, Da Beatminerz went on to produce the equally classic debuts from Boot Camp Clik members Smif-N-Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, & O.G.C. with Dah Shinin’, Nocturnal & Da Storm, solidifying themselves as one the preeminent production teams of the era Available from 06.10.2017

DJ Spinna – 1996 Beat Tape Vol.1
Friday, March 24th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on DJ Spinna – 1996 Beat Tape Vol.1

Image: 1609395 Aptly titled, “1996 Beat Tape Vol. 1”, DJ Spinna’s latest instrumental album features 18 original beats all produced on the EMU-SP1200 & Akai S950 circa 1996. With over 25 years in business, the Brooklyn native is tied to nothing short of greatness and a legacy of diverse extensions since his beginnings as a house DJ in the late 80s. Many know Spinna for being in the elite group of seasoned party rockers where his resume includes collaborations with Stevie Wonder, Spike Lee, Michael Jackson & Prince (Soul Slam) tribute parties and several US/international bookings a month. Others regard him as one of house music’s best for his well orchestrated dance tracks that blend jazz, soul & funk, caribbean and latin themes into his trademark, “Intergalactic Soul”.
Producing in the mid 90s with his underground duo, the Jigmastas, Spinna acquired national recognition for remixing Das Efx’s, Microphone Master single. He would gain larger recognition for his classic remix of De La Soul’s, Stakes Iz High single originally produced by the legendary Jay Dee aka J Dilla who became a friend in addition to being a contemporary. After a deal with Rawkus Records and producing some of Eminem’s early official appearances, Spinna achieved placements as a go to beat maker for legends, veterans and new MC’s. Though DJ Spinna has found continued success away from his roots, he has always satisfed his core audience whether producing for Homeboy Sandman, Phonte, The Jigmastas or his own solo projects.”1996 Beat Tape Vol. 1” is a rare peek into his deep archive. Much of the material was sourced directly from aged dat tapes and ?oppy disks from the year 1996. Don’t let the 20 year lapse mislead that these compositions are
primitive to today’s standards. The 18 track fully instrumental LP proves the advanced production techniques and sampling ideas Spinna employed are still ahead of it’s time long before much of the resurgence of 90s revivalist themes from today’s artists. The “1996 beat Tape” is the “Real McCoy”. All music was produced before
computers, before accessible home studios and before instrumental hip-hop was a category. Many of the beats were made with vocalists in mind. Constructed on turntables, the EMU-SP1200 and the Akai S950, historians will appreciate the album cover designed by Joe Buck which depicts intimate photos of Spinna in his studio with the actual gear used to create the album’s contents. This is only the frst volume and the debut venture between Redefnition Records and
Spinna’s own Correct Technique Records. With 2 plus decades of unreleased material, who knows what the future holds, but history shows that when DJ Spinna releases an instrumental album, they sell fast.

• LP pressed on orange vinyl
• Limited edition vintage instrumental collection from legendary producer, DJ Spinna

Image: 1603344 Nolan The Ninja is a throwback in many regards. In an era where many are just thrust into the realm of music without having gone through a proper stretch of artistic development, Nolan has been through the gauntlet and honed his abilities to the razor’s edge over the past few years. Nolan’s debut EP “F*ck The Hype” dropped on Left Of Center and attracted praise from 2DopeBoyz, Huffington Post, Pigeons & Planes, Egotripland, URB, watchLOUD, Respect and numerous other outlets. After eye opening live appearances on DJ Eclipse’s Halftime Show and Tony Touch’s Toca Tuesdays Shade 45 show it was clear the world needed a full length album from him.

The wait is over. Nolan’s debut LP “he(art)” is the culmination of years of performances and recording until he was ready to deliver a concise, well-rounded album that represented his evolution into a fully formed artist. “he(art)” exhibits the growth, depth and introspection you’d expect from an artist coming into their own and finally realizing their true potential. “he(art)” takes you on a journey of a young man from Detroit finally seeing his lifelong dreams of becoming an emcee following in the footsteps of his idols and influences coming to fruition.

“he(art)” showcases production from several prominent beatsmiths including MoSS, Def Dee, Nick Speed while also boasting features from rhyme veterans and up and comers alike such as Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson, Finale, Noveliss (Clear Soul Forces) and Red Pill (Ugly Heroes). After listening to this project it will be clear to the listener that this is just the tip of the iceberg and the sky’s the limit on this remarkable talent. The heart is what sets everything else in motion in the human body and without love for the art of the craft you will never try to achieve greatness.

D.O.C. – No One Can Do It Better
Thursday, April 21st, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on D.O.C. – No One Can Do It Better

Image: 1602553 Get On Down is very proud to announce an LP reissue of one of the West Coast’s most revered, yet underrated, hip-hop classics:
The D.O.C.’s No One Can Do It Better. Produced entirely by Dr. Dre and out of print on vinyl in the U.S. for 25 years, this limited
edition on black vinyl features original album artwork and thirteen tracks of rap heaven. When his debut album hit in mid-1989, The
D.O.C. was in the vortex of the biggest hip-hop happening on the planet: the rise and rule of N.W.A. The group’s breakout album
Straight Outta Compton had hit one year prior and had created both controversy and worldwide critical acclaim.
As rap history buffs and industry insiders know, the D.O.C. was a crucial behind-the-scenes member of the N.W.A. inner circle – his
most important role in the early days of the group, besides his close working relationship with Dr. Dre, was writing many of Eazy-E’s
rhymes, including his hit 1988 single “We Want Eazy.”
But The D.O.C. wasn’t in N.W.A. and never wanted to be – he was his own man, with his own vision. And after Compton proceeded
to blow up (much like Eazy’s 1988 LP, Eazy-Duz-It), the next crew album was No One Can Do It Better. Significantly, it was the first
album where Dr. Dre showed his greatness as a solo producer for one MC. And the Dallas-born D.O.C. lived up to the challenge of
Dre’s funky, expertly-produced tracks by bringing his A-game on the mic.
Boasting four singles – “The D.O.C. and the Doctor”, “Mind Blowin’”, the smash “It’s Funky Enough”, and “The Formula” – the
album is flawless from beginning to end. Of particular note beyond the singles is “The Grand Finale,” which was the last time that
Ice Cube, M.C. Ren and Eazy-E would rhyme on a track together.
Skillfully rhyming over both fast and slow tracks, The D.O.C. showed on this amazing record that he was one of hip-hop’s most
talented MCs, especially on the West Coast scene. He nearly died in a horrific car crash as the album was catching fire in the late
summer of 1989, but he survived and continues to make new music and act as a sounding board for Dr. Dre to this day.

Image: 1599191 After the success of the critically acclaimed “The South Sack Mack” album with Chuuwee, the German producer team JR&PH7 is getting ready to make more noise in the late summer of 2015. Next up is “Noir”, an eight track EP that will make listeners across the globe remind why JR&PH7 might just be the best German export next to your favorite car and lager.

“Noir” features include some of finest up and coming artists in Hip Hop today. Extremely hungry and talented emcees such as Chuuwee, Eric Biddines and Romaro Franceswa have been bubbling on the blogosphere for more than a minute. On their JR&PH7 produced tracks they prove why Hip Hop heads should be on the lookout for them in the future. Once again, throughout this record, JR&PH7 deliver sample heavy beats that serve as the perfect canvas for the respective emcees storytelling and innovative wordplay.

Blackk and Fabrashay trade rhymes over an atmospheric instrumental backdrop as well as Chuuwee’s “Rock The Party (Bang Bang)”. David Douglas – Moon Observations
Thursday, June 5th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on David Douglas – Moon Observations

Image: 1589070 Dutch electronica master and video director David Douglas returns to Atomnation with his new solo album Moon Observations.

This May will see the return of Dutch electronica master / video director David Douglas to Atomnation for his forthcoming album
Moon Observations, a natural continuation of 2012*Œs EP Royal Horticultural Society. With its powdery blocks of chords and
swathes of treated vocals, first single *gHigher*h gained support by Pitchfork, Xlr8r, Electronic Beats, THUMP, 3voor12, BBC e.a,
hailed because of the funkiness, porous synths and the slow-building atmosphere.
Inspired by the stories of namesake David Douglas (1799), a Scottish plant hunter who explored North America collecting seeds
of plants and trees unknown to mankind at that time, David Douglas (1983) started looking for his own musical roots. The greatness
of nature, the sublime mountain landscapes, Icelandic lupine fields, Arctic coastlines and Californian fir forest invigorate his music.
With collaborations by Dutch pop legend Blaudzun and Danish folk artist Petter Carlsen, Moon Observations offers a well
produced genre mix of electroncia, house, ambient and pop. This album could be this years favorite pick by fans of Caribou, John
Talabot, Nicolas Jaar, Royksopp and Tycho.

Elyas Khan – Brawl In Paradise
Thursday, October 10th, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Elyas Khan – Brawl In Paradise

Image: 1582129 In this album Brawl in Paradise, I am trying to make sense of the gods and devils in all of us.
Like a Katak dancer unravels a story that makes no separation between mythical greatness
and the bloody fleshiness of our bodies, or a Sufi who spins until his body and mind realize the
ethereal matter in which is part of everything. There is an atomic vibration that allows the
universe to communicate, when we organize it into music we warp the time and space of the
world around us.
It is my hope that by channeling the atomic energy that flows through me into music I can
somehow spread the universal connection of love and contribute in some humble way to the
relief of suffering, not only of humans but of our patiently observant hot, Earth. When we
dance, we tumble between a heaven and earth, which can never be separated.
To write this album I quite literally shut myself in the top of the old GDR Radio Broadcasting
center, in a tower overlooking Berlin, and began to filter through the questions and sounds that
came to me. From my windows I could see the beautiful paradise of our world, the drama of
the sky, the timeless flow of the Spree river. The beauty of our world is so moving it can be
almost overwhelming, like being in a dream state. I could feel the weight of our history as
humans in this garden of Paradise we have been given to inhabit. And I began to question
why, given this perfection to be free in, we choose to brawl in it constantly, to fight and destroy.
Maybe the weight of natural perfection, the terror of accepting it and truly connecting to the
oneness of all matter and energy is too much to bear. I can’t answer this, so I look to art for the
answers, this is what art gives me.
Brawl In Paradise is a collage of my observations and questioning of the world filtered through
some of my favorite writers, filmmakers, painters, dancers. Some of the songs are meditations,
others are incantations. I was helped immensely by Mikhail Bulgakov, George Orwell, Edward
Albee, Salman Rushdie, everything and anything written by Arundhati Roy – a thinker and
writer I hold in highest esteem, Akram Khan, Pina Bausch, Jean Renoir, Werner Herzog,
Salvador Dali, the political pundits and corporate double speak surrounding The Deepwater
Horizon Oil Spill (aka BP Oil Spill) that unfolded as I began writing this album, the story of an
ex-prostitute recovered drug addict friend of mine whose immense dignity had a deep impact
on me, as well as the story of an African poet and his two friends who overcame being
orphaned in an HIV/HepC ridden post war country to produce art that speaks to the world, and
my early years singing in the school choir in London.
This album is my attempt to raise part of the shield of imagination, to embrace, to protect and
to connect. And of course To Dance.

More Like Trees – Roots, Shoots & Leaves
Thursday, May 9th, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on More Like Trees – Roots, Shoots & Leaves

Image: 1577850 More Like Trees is a 3 piece acoustic act, drawing on a range of musical influences to create ‘Strum & Bass’: acoustic dance music, combining traditional and innovative techniques to create fresh twists on modern genres. With front man Josh Whitehouse on classical Guitar, Matt Whitehouse on Cajon and Lachlan Radford on Double Bass, the core line-up is regularly complimented by collaborations with the best underground talent the world has to offer.

Effortlessly combining elements of Flamenco, Drum & Bass, Classical, Hip Hop, Indie, Dance and Folk, they make their own musical rules, consistently surprising and delighting fans of all genres.

History:

More Like Trees were officially born on March 10th 2011, effortlessly selling out their debut gig at Favela Chic. Their former band, Fran & Josh, was tipped for greatness: it took a slight change in line up and band name to realise the full potential of Josh’s song-writing ability.

In Spring 2011, they began developing their portfolio by recording an album with Tali (the world no.1 female D&B MC) – an acoustic reworking of her current D&B/Dubstep album, ‘Dark Days, High Nights’ released on Audioporn. They performed this at ‘Sun & Bass’ in Sardinia, making them the first live band ever booked for the festival. http://www.audiopornrecords.com/news?id=5373 Summer 2011 was spent touring the festival circuit, largely as part of the Chai Wallah stage, but also supporting Billy Bragg (where by Billy’s own admission, they stole the show).

Following the festival season, collaborations continued with The Local Posse, a collective of like-minded musicians from different backgrounds led by US loop-pedaller, Joe Driscoll and including core members Lazy Habits, MC
Dizraeli, Klumzy Tung (Beardyman’s MC), Bellatrix (world no1 female beatboxer), Reeps One ( two-times UK beat box champ), John Fairhurst and The Drop.www.thelocalposse.com

Being accepted into this circle of seasoned and acclaimed artists served as a training ground with a steep learning curve – they rapidly rose to the challenge to hold their own alongside much bigger names, quickly increasing not only their fan base and vastly improving their stage craft in the process.

It was also through The Local Posse that they met John Hendicott, the genius producer behind their debut album, ‘Roots, Shoots & Leaves, which is due for release in September 2012. http://johnhendicott.com/
