N’toko über seine Einflüsse: „Musically I consume a lot of american commercial hiphop as well underground experimental stuff from Japan, bollywood music, 80s new wave and shaabi. Politically I’m a marxist, active on the radical left and very inspired by revolutionary movements across the globe.“ Available from 17.03.2017

Kon – On My Way Dubs (Splattered Colored Vinyl
Thursday, October 31st, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Kon – On My Way Dubs (Splattered Colored Vinyl

Image: 1584542 What leads an individual to walk the often obsessive path of the crate digger? Raiding filthy basements and accumulating back-breaking stacks of wax on a tantalising search for the unearthed groove, Kon cites early exposure as the source of his calling: “One of the first physical records I fell in love with was Electric Light Orchestra’s El Dorado. The music on that LP is incredible, climatic strings, and full of amazing songwriting.
To digest and absorb music with such depth is the best thing for a 4 year old. Get ’em going young! I know this is part of the reason why later in life I searched further than what was just on the radio.”
Kon’s father was a drummer, and his love of the break not only inspired the quest for the funkiest rarities that birthed the iconic On Track and Off Track compilations, but also informed his approach to the edit. Check the ‘Nite Time Remix’ of ‘Hooked’ as the perfect introduction to his style: breaking things down to the bare essentials, the rhythm section takes on a life of its own in what has fast become the definitive version of an
already classic disco workout. Kon’s output has given new life to this art form, and on the road to mastery he studied the golden touch of editing and remix masters Walter Gibbons and BBE label-mate John Morales.
The natural next step for this beat-juggling heavyweight was a return to the crafting of his own original productions. Bringing together a close-knit team of musician friends, Kon has revived a longstanding partnership with BBE and recorded his debut album titled On My Way. Kon’s first productions were committed to tape in the early 90s when he a formed a rap group called Mikst Nutz. Their demo was given heavy rotation by DJs Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito, and, in 1992, Jive Records came close to signing the project.
We are also treated to the unmistakeable vocals of UK talent Ben Westbeech, who Kon first met at the Southport Weekender. “I was with Amir leaving to catch the car service back to our hotel when I heard a guy yelling our names. Turns out it was Ben, and I had no idea he knew about our On Track compilations. And in turn he seemed to be shocked that I knew who he was! I’ve always liked Ben’s work and I was staying in
London with him when we first cut this tune. It was originally recorded to a totally different track that was all samples.”
The musical arrangement of On My Way reflects a deep understanding of dance floor dynamics, and Kon honed his craft as a DJ playing at house parties in the 80s, coming from a party rock background where all styles were thrown into the mix. He remembers looking up to Boston radio jocks like DJ Jesse McGee and DJ T-Clark, while records like Cash Money & Marvellous’ Ugly People Be Quiet influenced his technical craft: “They contained scratches that were ahead of their time. I really didn’t have any mentors, except for these records and the mixes those guys would do on the radio.”
Kon’s love for wax is for life, but he has little time for those passing judgement on a selector’s format of choice: “It’s a DJ’s skill set and taste that matters. Music is meant to be shared and spread to as many as possible. Who cares what medium I choose to play my music from? We are messengers, period. Nobody owns the sounds that are blasting out of the speakers except the actual musicians. You may own the little piece of plastic it’s recorded onto, but that’s it. Fools need to stop trippin’. I’m not caught up in the hype. I still buy vinyl and I know it’s the coolest medium to store music on. Nothing can beat it. The feel, the smell, the labels and so on, but I can’t take vinyl with me when I die. Now the sounds that have fed and nourished my soul, I take with me everywhere I go. I can take them with me to the grave, or where ever I end up when my physical shell can no longer take it. The music itself is staying with me forever.”
In On My Way, a rich cultural heritage has been distilled into an upfront album of burning dance floor action, showing us why the BBE-crowned ‘King of Digging’ has for so long remained a formidable, worldwide musical icon.

A window into the full-blooded, captivating spirit of music from the Andes, ANDINA shines a fresh perspective on Peru’s Andean heritage. A co-release with Strut Records, the album is selected from records released between ‘68 and ‘78, upending clichéd ideas of Andean music and bringing to light the divergent, exciting traditions to have emerged from Peru’s strip of the iconic mountain range.
Encompassing steady-grooving, Peruvian cumbia rhythms, transcendent folkloric harp recordings and Lima big band groups taking in?uence from their highland neighbours, it boasts a diversity that will appeal to fans of jazz and Latin as well as tropical-minded DJs and deepdigging collectors. It was dubstep producer and DJ Mala (Digital Mystikz) who most recently
shone a light on the region with his 2016 album Mirrors on Brownswood – Tiger’s Milk founder Martin Morales had accompanied him to Peru two years earlier, acting as his guide and mentor in discovering the breadth of Peru’s musical history.
Peruvian chef, restaurateur and music producer Martin was born in Peru and lived there until he was a teenager before settling in the UK. In recent years he has travelled frequently to the Andes in search of recipes, records, sounds and inspiration for a variety of projects which he and his London based team have presented. An avid DJ and record collector, Martin has teamed up with Tiger’s Milk co-founder Duncan Ballantyne (former Soundway label manager) and Peruvian crate digger Andres Tapia del Rio to create a series which starts with ANDINA and will then move to the Amazon and coast of Peru.
Tiger’s Milk is dedicated to uncovering Peruvian music past and present and it has garnered support from the likes of Mr Scru?, Basement Jaxx, Mala, Gilles Peterson, Mr Jukes (Bombay Bicycle Club) and Osunlade. The launch of this compilation coincides with a cookbook release, also titled ANDINA.
The album is compiled by Lima-based record collector Andres Tapia Del Rio, Martin Morales and label co-founder Duncan Ballantyne.

Los Granadians Del Espacio Exterior – La Onda Cosmica

Image: 1610373 Los Granadians bring to Earth their new probe of expansive cosmic Reggae. The Cosmic Wave! (La Onda Cosmica), the long awaited new album by the underground psychotropical titans.
Young, bold and XXI century classics, having being Where No Man Has Never Reached Before (Donde Ningún Hombre Ha Llegado Jamás – Liquidator Music 2009), Los Granadians have transferred Reggae and Rocksteady galaxies in a tireless race full of anthems registered in a number of singles, EPs and albums for Liquidator Music, and that culminates in La Onda Cósmica, their ffth full length album.
With this new record, the fnal tribute to the miracle of life on our planet, Los Granadians sing to an emotion so real that it wants to seem not interstellar. To brighten this mission they propose a master game of winks and challenges to our ears: suddenly we could think in Coxsone Dodd,
Duke Reid, Lee Perry, Prince Buster, or Lloyd Charmer’s Psychedelic Reggae, but also many postcards from the sea where their artifact has landed: that one that bathes and gives rhythm not only to Jamaica, but also to Puerto Rico, Mexico, Cuba, Louisiana or Colombia. Combinations
that, shaken with the Caribbean style, surprises with ingredients from the seven seas, guessing where we want to go pleasantly delivering all our
clothes, according to progresses in the record grooves.
La Onda Cósmica has been registered at Greenville Studios in Madrid, Spain, using their famous analogíc overdubbing system on tape. Codecs
could be used for describing these 13 songs sound but, if you don’t listen to it, you will still be out of Los Granadian’s Cosmic Wave. The presentation of this new album tour, without a doubt the most important of Los Granadians del Espacio Exterior career, starts now, the machinery
is greased, the so called “party that nobody wants to stop” has arrived.

F1 The Fatback Band – Spanish Hustle (Joey Negro Remix)

“I was 13 when I first heard “Boogie Nights” by Heatwave on a children’s TV show called Multicoloured
SwapShop and it started a love affair with disco music that has lasted all my life. There’s so much to love in
disco. 40 years later I still hear plenty of sample tracks based around disco records but what I don’t come
across much of is actual original new material made to the disco blueprint.” – Joey Negro
It’s hard to find enough superlatives to describe just how influential and prolific Dave Lee, aka Joey Negro, has
been over the last three decades. One of music’s major proponents of soulful, disco-tinged, vocal records and
without question instrumental is its development and popularisation, no-one treats a loop, groove or hook with
as much care and attention as Joey Negro.
Whether you realise it or not, Joey Negro productions have more than likely been soundtracking your life.
Throughout the 90s and 00s right up until today, he has produced an astonishing number of records and
remixes under various names and for some of the world’s biggest and greatest artists. Grace Jones, Diana
Ross, Deep Dish, Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey, Tears For Fears, Ultra Nate, Masters At Work, Roy Ayers, Blaze,
Roger Sanchez: across both underground and pop music, the list goes on, contributing to one of the most
impressive discographies in music, irrespective of genre.
Throughout his career, disco has been a key ingredient of the Joey Negro sound, and alongside the likes of
Nile Rodgers, Daft Punk, Jamiroquai and Dimitri From Paris, he’s one of the few artists to have been keeping
the disco fire burning.
Produced With Love is only the second ever Joey Negro album to be released, and the first for more than 20
years. And as the electronic music scene threatens to be overrun with faceless, bland and forgettable
productions, Produced With Love proves that dance music with character still exists. And rather than rely on
sampling older records, the overwhelming majority of music is newly recorded: a real rarity when it comes to
modern disco and indicative of the level of detail involved in the project.
During his career, Joey Negro has helmed a staggering number of acclaimed compilations and remix albums,
including Defected’s In The House and House Masters series, Remixed With Love, Disco Not Disco and Kings of
House: a haul not very few producers can lay claim to. Most recently, last year’s Electro compilation was
incredibly well-received, while Remixed With Love 2 – which included exclusive reworks of Robert Palmer,
Grace Jones and Christopher Cross all from the original master tapes – proved that JN’s powers were as sharp
as ever, with the collection going on to be Traxsource’s best-selling of 2016, reaching top 30 on iTunes album
chart, and also being named DJ Mag’s compilation of the year.

And so, back to the small matter of Produced With Love. Album opener ‘Prove That You’re Feeling Me feat.
Diane Charlemagne’ is without question one of the catchiest and most urgent disco records produced in the
last decade. Evoking the great Nile Rogers and Chic at their funkiest, it trips along on an exquisite bassline with
orchestral strings and Charlemagne’s vocal lending the record a truly timeless quality.
“Unfortunately between starting and finishing the project the supremely talented Diane Charlemagne, the
singer/songwriter who I co-wrote many songs with over last 10 years very sadly passed away. We had a great
working relationship, which was both fun and honest. Most of my final collaborations with Diane, ‘Overnight
Sensation’, ‘Prove That You’re Feeling Me’ and the partly re-written remake of ‘Must Be The Music’ are on this
album.” – Joey Negro
R&B and house music mainstay Linda Clifford narrates on ‘Won’t Let Go’, a deep house cut that celebrates
musical escapism, whilst ‘It’s More Fun To Compute’ – an unlikely cover – is a fully orchestrated disco rework of
Dusseldorf’s finest.
Further highlights include a completely remade ‘Must Be The Music’ (one of Joey Negro’s best-known records),
which is utterly transformed from its previous incarnation, whilst things get both dubby and jazzy on the Arthur
Russell-evoking ‘Distorting Space Time’.

Sometimes in life you find yourselves at a point where you need to
walk away and leave something behind if you ever want to go back
to it. Other paths must be walked, other experiences learnt from to
give you a fresh view of where you’ve come from. In that sense
going back to the roots, rediscovering their past with fresh eyes, is
the concept behind Richard Dorfmeister & Rupert Huber’s new
Tosca album, ‘Going Going Going’.
For over two decades and several albums Tosca has served as a
vehicle for Richard and Rupert to express their personal moods and
impressions, each release holding up a mirror to their inner lives.
Now though after ten albums the journey has come full circle and
once again they’ve returned to the kind of instrumental tracks, full of
deep beats and dubbed out textures that made Tosca’s name.
The result is ‘Going Going Going’, an album that Tosca fans will
immediately recognize and yet one that doesn’t just trade on former
glories. Hitting the ground running opening track ‘Import Export’
sounds like a Lee Scratch Perry version of a Ennio Morricone
soundtrack, a motif reoccurs throughout the album, most notably on
‘Dr Dings’, their reinterpretation of America’s classic ‘Horse With No
Name’.

BAAST – Bazaar

Image: 1607508 Baast returns with a follow-up to their cosmic
jazz funk opus “Dimensions”, with another
set of esoteric “Kosmiche Musik” on their
new offering “Bazaar.” Channeling the same
energy filtered through a more “worldly” vibe,
the heavy focus is on polyrhythmic percussion
producing a decidedly Middle Eastern flavor in
a similar vein to Krautrock standouts
Embryo and Passport.
The brainchild of R. Scott Dibble and DJ Johnny Basil, Baast’s
live performances are a mix of theatrical rock, jazz improv, and
extended funk sojourns once they lock into a groove. 2016 has
been a coming out party of sorts for once-underground hero DJ
Johnny Basil. After a 20 year hiatus from producing music,
hunkering down and delving deep into his esoteric studies while
amassing one of the more impressive record collections focused
on library music, his ascension has been ignited by his exposure
to a young and eager audience as a tour DJ for cult surf-rock
crusaders The Growlers. Leaving crowds mesmerized throwing
down hard Disco and Funk while exploring the groove alongside
them gyrating and slithering shirtless on stage. Drawing a
visually striking resemblance to Iggy Pop, and sartorially decked
in ‘70s vintage regalia, he’s inspired a write-up from Vice outlet
Thump dubbing him “The Man You Wish You Were”, putting him
in the running as a real-life “Most Interesting Man In The World”.
Fresh from being named by the OC weekly staff as “Best Local
Celebrity of 2016” and loaded with several new projects outside
of Baast including his recently released excursion into Nu-Disco
with the aptly named Basil & Rogers and Sleaze/Glam Rock
outfit Kandi Jones, as well as several upcoming appearances in
music videos and fashion shoots, DJ Johnny Basil’s long-overdue
“shine” is only destined to burn that much brighter.

Danish producer Uffe Christensen returns to Tartelet Records with
his second LP ‘No!’, a deeply personal LP to follow 2015’s
unanimously unfuckwithable debut ‘Radio Days’. Every bit as
abundant as his first, it’s a record that scales polyrhythmic
percussion, improvised jazz, & billowing ballads. This, that and so
much more, it’s a triumph of one man’s instinctive ear –– and
should be consumed in one sitting.
A year after his dynamic debut ‘Radio Days’, Uffe resurfaces on Tartelet
with a record cut in the same spirit as the last: a borderless approach to
music-making with organic instrumentation at its heart. Genres collide
peaceably ––off-beat soul with jazz, hip-hop with the heft of house––
and are melded smooth with an earthy warmth. Like nearly all at camp
Tartelet, he’s a producer who is more interested in cutting loose than
playing to the tune of dominant modes in dance music. In that, his
album’s title is instructive: a ‘no’ to the tyranny of trends, to slavish
Facebook likes, to creative compromise. Beyond the babble of fleeting
fads, Uffe enjoys his place on the perimeter –– an outlier searching
critically for something closer to a timeless groove.
Uffe has all of the intuition of the self-taught instrumentalist, following
his ear into unexpected rhythmic and tonal combinations. It’s what gives
the album its urgent appeal: the sound of tentative experiments being
made live, of sequences improvised amongst friends. Far from a churn
of simple floor fodder, the album is a journey through a
consummate narrative. Shy guitar interlude ‘Fridge Magnet Radio
Theme’ feels its way out of the warbling jazz breakdown in ‘Lesser
Known Values’. ‘The Fact’, an unexpected vocal ballad, follows the
broken beat of ‘Solo, So Loud’. With the record’s pleading closer ‘From
Me’, it’s a story with a start, middle, and end. A long player as long
players should be.
As Tartelet continue their run of consistently solid EPs & 12″s, it’s still
these album moments that remain the best gateways into the label’s
distinctive sound. Alongside Max Graef’s debut ‘Rivers of the Red
Planet’ and Glenn Astro’s ‘Throwback’, Uffe’s ‘No’ is a mirror to the
Tartelet spirit and sits amongst the imprint’s best. For lovers of the true
album –– the full-length proper, the one-take listen –– this one’s for you.

Mop Mop – Lunar Love

Image: 1602255 The incredible Mop Mop are back with their fifth album Lunar Love.

CD Tracklisting :
01. Alfa
02. Adhara
03. Totem feat. Anthony Joseph
04. Spaceship: Earth feat. Anthony Joseph
05. Omega
06. Lunar Love
07. The Barber feat. Anthony Joseph
08. Habibi
09. Plato
10. The Serpent feat. Anthony Joseph
11. Supreme feat. Wayne Snow
12. Foreign Correspondents feat. Annabel

MOP MOP continue their journey through musically wide open spaces and places.
Refining their sound even more, creating an unique and deep atmosphere based on the
idea of traditional Gnawa rhythms mixed with a heavy Dub-Jazz-Funk pulse. They left the
„Isle Of Magic“ – but the magical experience of their music and vibe gets even more exciting
. . .
… as ANDREA BENINI and MOP MOP once again take a wonderful imaginary trip to a
place which echoes and results in another deep musical trip. From the „Isle Of Magic“ to
„Lunar Love“ – „There are other places out there“ – Sun Ra knew about these places outta
space, MOP MOP now take a journey from a mystical bright shining star called „Adhara“ to
Mother Earth, being aliens from a kind of similar but yet different planet which they had to
leave as they have destroyed and abused their ground, now in search of a new land.
Looking at our blue planet from a different point of view. „Show me this place they call
Earth and let me land this ship“, says ANTHONY JOSEPH in one of the key tracks
„Spaceship:Earth“.
Starting the trip with the soothing sounds of a Hang Drum, „Alfa“ leads into the four
movements of „Lunar Love“ – The Journey, The Awakening, The Experience and Close
Encounters. „Adhara“ then sounds like the Sultans Of Swing found their Karmacoma
finally, melodies of leaving and inquiring discoveries at the same time. Unquestionably,
Adhara must have been a wonderful place, but now it’s time to find a new life somewhere in
space, all under the sign of the magical „Lunar Love“ in the end. Hardly anyone can elude
the irresistibly rhythms of intrumental tracks like „Habibi“ or „Plato“ as parts of the journey
through space and time. „Supreme“, a beautiful and soulful love ballad and the dreamy
„Foreign Correspondent“, which is about the amalgamation of aliens and humans, the
destiny for a new way of living and caring, are the soundtrack to the release in a quite
peaceful setting after a long journey.
„Lunar Love“ once again features over ten brilliant musicians, each one contributing their
art homogeneously to ANDREA BENINI’s musical visions. ALEX TREBO on piano,
PASQUALE MIRRA on vibraphone, balafon and marimba, SALVATORE LAURIOLA on
electric and double bass, DANILO MINEO playing all kinds of primary percussions like
surdo, udu drums, tumbadora and the morrocan krakebs, which BENINI also uses on most
of the tracks like a traditional drum set. Additional hang, ARP synthesizers, Moog, guitars
and many other instruments create this unique atmosphere of the album. Poet and
musician ANTHONY JOSEPH on the vocals adding his outstanding poetry as an essential
ingredient, telling the story and matching perfectly with the overall vibe of the tribal Dub
Jazz Funk pulse. WAYNE SNOW’s sweet voice making „Supreme“ this beautiful love song
and Ninja Tune artist ANNABEL ELLIS dreamy chant inspired by Satie and Debussy feels
just right in place in „Foreign Correspondent“.
The whole album has been recorded in five excellent studios located in Berlin and
Ravenna using vintage analog equipment for he bliss of a warm sound, which can only be
achieved by using analogue tape in the end. „Lunar Love“ is MOP MOP’s fifth studio album
and it turns out to be BENINI’s best work to date, deep and sometimes dark, but uplifting,
very soulful and very original at the same time. Combining his afro american jazz
background with a tribal offbeat approach and a wonderful story on top. Reaching out to a
state of trance which feels very good once you let yourself go. Please take your seats and
join MOP MOP on this journey to these „Other places out there“ you haven’t seen and
heard yet.

Various – Sadar Bahar presents Soul In The Hole
Friday, March 18th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Various – Sadar Bahar presents Soul In The Hole

Image: 1576343 Sadar Bahar is surely one of Chicago’s best keep secrets. Since he began collecting records in the early 80’s, he’s built one of the most formidable collections in the world. He and his friends went against the grain, eschewing electronic and techno in favour of hard to find rare groove sounds which they dubbed ‘soul in the hole’. “We sought out the deepest hot stuff available and found out that there was so much untapped music. Our search practically took over our lives. Yet, it was a great investment, because our unique collection has given us dominance.”
One of the most sought after DJs in the world of soul, funk and disco, Sadar Bahar still spins all over the globe, of course playing “strictly vinyl and vinyl only”. Together with Lee Collins he selected 12 tracks for this very special vinyl compilation of ‘Soul in the Hole’, sure to hit home wherever it’s played.

Sadar Bahar: “I was born in Newark, NJ during the late 60’s. My family relocated in Chicago in the early 70’s. I began my DJ pursuit when I was a child. My mom brought me a set of Technique turntables, and the rest is history. I knew at a very early age that I was destined to pursue a career doing what I loved, creating unique sounds of muzik. Muzik has always been my passion. I always hung around the older “old school” crowd who played house. They would play the game,”What you know about this?”. They really influenced my interest and increased my desire to learn more about the unique sound of deep, deep house muzik. Later on some of these same individuals would tell me, “Man, your sounds are too deep for me”.

I began my DJ career in the early 80’s playing house, deep house and rare disco exclusively. During this time Chicago was filled with DJs who played house and disco sounds. However, I chose a different direction, playing rare, hard- to- find grooves. When some of the best-known, popular DJs whom I admired referred to me as a serious deep house muzik collector, a monster was born. All I wanted to do was visit different record stores. I developed a unquenchable desire to create one of the best collections ever. For many years, I spent most of my time in record shops seeking vintage deep house sounds. I soon realized that while I was out searching for the deepest house muzik, people had practically stopped playing muzik, and instead they were playing beat tracks only. Yet they were referring to these tracks as house songs. This was not “original” house muzik! I then retreated even deeper into house muzik. My partners and I began developing our own unique sound, known as SOUL IN THE HOLE muzik. We sought out the deepest hot stuff available and found out that there was so much untapped muzik. Our search practically took over our lives. Yet, it was a great investment, because our unique collection has given us dominance. We have stayed true to the game of spinning, and avoided the tracks and techno/electronics. For us, it’s strictly vinyl and vinyl only.

I thank God for the opportunity to travel the world and share and learn more about this muzik that I love. Muzik lovers are the same all over the world. In many of the countries I have visited there were often language barriers, however, once the muzik began to play, we were able to communicate through our muzik. Muzik really is the universal language.”

Delta Heavy – White Flag
Thursday, October 8th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Delta Heavy – White Flag

Image: 1600209 The British pair, consisting of Ben Hall and Simon James, have been impressing crowds of bassheads with their undeniable talent in producing dubstep, DnB, trap, and generally all “From their D&B roots they’ve since gone on to demonstrate their impeccable production skills across a multitude of genres from 110 to dubstep to electro.” – UKF

After the viral success of their recent ‘Ghost’ EP, Delta Heavy have followed up this feat with their untouchable work ethic. Capitalising on a Zane Lowe Beats1 premiere, as well as millions of streams worldwide on their music video for ‘Ghost’, they delve into a cross-pollination of genres with a single ‘White Flag’ nods to not only the flawless complexity of their ability to tap into different BPMs, but also the versatility of their cross-Atlantic renowned DJ sets. A digital exclusive, ‘White Flag’ is underpinned by heavily climatic moments, amongst stabs of arpeggio swinging back and forth between soulful vocals. The dream-like sequence which rewinds their usually fast paced drum & bass perfectly epitomises a talent which saw them rise to prominence from coast to coast in the US.

We’re then offered a switch up which sees ‘White Flag’ taken into faster waters. Lead by an incredibly catchy hook, peddled forward by the reworked beat patterns and ambience, the opposing sides of the original and VIP combine admirably. Choppier drums underpin the composition, manifesting a club-banger that’s already nestled itself in the sets of revered headliners across the globe, from Andy C to Then on the flipside, ‘Arcadia’ takes on their 170 etiquette, although this time featuring Hospital stalwart Metrik. The meeting of two different styles, you’re taken into a sound dimension of distorted bassline, quaking subs and pounding kick drums. Drawn in by an absorbing intro, it’s an electro-fuelled roller, reminiscent of their earlier output yet adding a more contemporary twist, it provides a clear example of why Delta Heavy have been a permanent fixture in sets for half a decade.

Bosq (Whiskey Barons) – Celestial Strut
Friday, September 11th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Bosq (Whiskey Barons) – Celestial Strut

Image: 1598200 Nearly two years after his debut album, Bosq Y Orquestra De Madera, burst onto the scene with its varied rhythms and moods, Bosq is unleashing another batch of music for the dancefloor. His new album Celestial Strut is extending summer well past the autumnal equinox.

Not content to produce one style of music, Bosq takes you throughdisco (“Bad For Me”. “Celestial Strut”), Latin rhythms (“Ella”,”Cumbia En Bahia”), and Afrobeat (“Bounce And Pull Up”, “Take Over”, “Pay The Price”) with ease. Thinking of each album like a DJ set, he’s always determined to inject many flavors but still keep a cohesive sound.
Helping to craft the album, collaborators such as Nicole Willis,Jesus Pagan Y Conjunto Barrio, and Kaleta chipped in with lyric writing, vocal duties, and riveting soundscapes. Recalls Bosq,”Jesus and the Conjunto Barrio helped me to re-record all my parts into live ones which gives it a greater authenticity and better
musicianship. I then took those parts to rework and modernize them.” Bosq even co-wrote lyrics, a first for him, with his girlfriend on “Found Your Love.” To add even more flair to the album,Caserta, someone Bosq greatly admires for being able to bring so much sonic depth, mixed several tracks on Celestial Strut.
Having already received extensive coverage through outlets like WaxPoetics, OkayAfrica, Remezcla, and Sound Color Vibration as well as DJing around the country at nightclubs and even Boston’s Museum Of Fine Arts, he’s traveled extensively to locales such as South America and Puerto Rico since his last album to find new inspiration and perspective.”Everything influences you consciously or subconsciously. So this album definitely has a sense of my travels and spending time in other cultures, whether on the road or with my girl and her family. All that Latin culture immersion has opened up my cold Northeast heart a lot!” he openly expresses. Celestial Strut is a confident record based on musical and lifeexperience that finds Bosq less constrained and focusing more on musical textures than genre conformity. Although he contends that there is so much more musically that he wants to learn, his love for creation and the learning process continues to push him to produce some of the most exciting dance and internationally-flavored wax dishes this decade.

Various – Tru Thoughts Covers 2 (LP+MP3)
Saturday, July 18th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Various – Tru Thoughts Covers 2 (LP+MP3)

Image: 1597314 The second instalment of the Tru Thoughts Covers compilation series brings together some of the intriguing cover versions that have been released and loved as album tracks, singles or one-offs on the label.

As well as contributions from familiar Tru Thoughts artists there are some previously unreleased tunes that have been sought out and signed specifically for this compilation, with La Grima’s dub style rework of Nirvana, Fingathing taking Donna Summer down a disco jazz tip, and Nizzle Hizzle transforming War’s “The World Is A Ghetto”.

Opening in a deep, downtempo direction, the album kicks off with Quantic and Alice Russell exploring a gospel sound on the hugely popular “I’ll Keep My Light In My Window”, taken from their acclaimed ‘Look Around The Corner’ collaborative LP. The Bamboos take James Blake to a soul basement, with Megan Washington on vocals, Zed Bias tackles a Soul II Soul classic whilst Kinny and Harleighblu bring their own unique and illuminating versions of The Cure and Eurythmics, respectively.

Ramping up the raucous factor, The Hot 8 Brass Band give a new meaning to The Specials’ iconic Ghost Town by transposing it onto a post-Katrina New Orleans, and Quantic gives a Cumbia rendition of a Dr Dre classic, while Youngblood Brass Band rock up with a club and festival favourite in the shape of their punchy instrumental brass takeover of Rufus and Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody”.

A great cover version has the power to surprise, amuse, blur genre boundaries, cause debate or simply get people dancing to something they never knew they loved. All these tracks have proved popular amongst a diverse range of fans, DJs and radio shows across the world, and it is quite something to hear them all together. The albums comes out on CD, alongside a special blue vinyl version.

Various – Peru Boom
Thursday, July 2nd, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Various – Peru Boom

Image: 1597238 Tiger’s Milk present new Bass heavy Peruvian compilation. Peru Boom – Bass, Bleeps and Bumps from Peru’s Electronic Underground

build Lima’s reputation as ‘jewel in the crown’ of South America’s rave & party scenes. Tropical bass artists like Dengue Dengue Dengue, DJ Chakruna, Animal Chuki and Deltatron have long been guided by the roots of chicha and Peruvian cumbia. This sees them reshape and digitally render the original sounds fashioning new cuts inspired by dubstep, techno, trap, grime, house and electronica all aimed squarely at the dancefloor.
Detroit has techno, Chicago has house, and Peru’s DJs and producers consider Lima as the home of Tropical Bass. A global and amorphous style of music that has producers, DJs and flagbearers from various corners of the world from South Africa and Angola’s Kudoro scenes to the Baile Funk parties of Brazil, international DJs like Diplo, Switch and labels like Mad Decent have long been absorbing and redefining the sound.
Electronic music made in Peru is often influenced by the national music style ‘Cumbia’, a slow and syncopated style of music full of complex rhythms. Lima is the central meeting point for all of Peru’s Andean, African and European cultures and this is reflected by the varied music blaring out from speakers around the city. With an admirable respect for labels like Infopesa, the most influential label in ‘60s & ‘70s Peru for chicha and Peruvian Cumbia, the artists of today bring traditional and once popular sounds bang up to date, creating a new history influenced by urban Lima.
Peru Boom is the third compilation released on Tiger’s Milk (in conjunction with Strut). Following hot on the heels of the 1960’s jazz and ‘70s funk of Peru Bravo and Peru Maravilloso, this marks a new departure for the label, bringing things bang up to date with the latest electronic sounds. Martin Morales, co-founder of Tiger’s Milk Records first took inspiration for the project at a life changing rave in Lima 3 years ago thrown by Dengue Dengue Dengue.
The album cover is a commissioned work by top Peruvian artist Ruta Mare. The design combines ‘80s electronica with bold colours relative to the tropical bass scene and will look even better on physical CD and LPs

Various – Peru Boom

Image: 1597237 Tiger’s Milk present new Bass heavy Peruvian compilation.

1. Animal Chuki ‘Luto’
2. Deltatron ‘Ego Trip’
3. Dengue Dengue Dengue ‘Como Bailar Cumbia’
4. Piraña Sound System ‘Naranja Limones’
5. Chakruna ‘Cumbia Achorada’
6. Rolovo ‘Outropical’ (Version B)
7. Tribilin Sound ‘El Carmen’
8. Qechuaboi ‘Iseecumbiapeopleagain’
9. Pe Garcia ‘Subete a la Noche’
10. Tribilin Sound ‘Underground Cumbia’
11. Deltatron ‘El Que Abandona No Tiene Premio’
12. Chakruna ‘Sonido Chichero’ (ft. Chapilitta)
13. Elegante y Imperial ‘Tardes’

Chancha Via Circuito – Amansara
Saturday, February 21st, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Chancha Via Circuito – Amansara

Image: 1595586 Argentine producer Pedro Canale returns from a three-year sojourn with his long awaited third album. Originally coming out of Buenos Aires’s famed digital cumbia scene, Chancha has notoriously broken way outside those boundaries to forge unprecedented mergers between Brazilian rhythms, Paraguayan harp, Andean mysticism and the solitude of Argentinian folklore – all processed through his own futuristic style of postdubstep.

Chancha’s sound is without question truly unique and instantly recognizable to the point he has become a key reference point for an entire crop of artists that have begun to carry his genes.

Hailed by the Washington Post, the New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR and countless others, Chancha Via Circuito defies even the shrewdest of marketing geniuses. On one hand, he is something of a cult artist within micro-circles of electronic music, having been invited to perform at Montreal’s MUTEK as well as the Roskilde and Vive Latino Festivals. At the same time, Chancha’s music has found broad appeal outside of the avant-garde, most notably his magnificent remix of Jose Larralde’s “Quimey Neuquen” which was heavily featured in 2013 as part of the final season of the critically acclaimed television series Breaking Bad. Fans of the show undoubtedly remember Walter White burying his millions in the desert, soundtracked by the wide and gentle grooves of Chancha Via Circuito.

Amansara is a natural progressing of Chancha’s special strain of electronic South America. Lead single “Coplita” features the haunting vocals of previous collaborator Miram Garcia, while “Sueno En Paraguay” merges Andean folklore sounds with bleeps and blips and pounding drums in a way that sounds completely natural and ordained. “Jardines” features the driving vocals of Lido Pimienta merging with heavy synths, percussion and bells into an unforgettable track, while both “Tarocchi” and “Guajaca” ramp things up into deep, electronic dancefloor inna rainforest territory.

Art for Amansara comes from Argentinian psychedelic folklore painter Paula Duro who has crafted the look of all of Chancha’s previous releases. Available from 27.02.2015

Burnt Friedman w/ Daniel Dodd-Ellis – Clock (12” EP)
Friday, January 16th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Burnt Friedman w/ Daniel Dodd-Ellis – Clock (12” EP)

– Groove
“… harmoniert bestens mit den ungeraden Rhythmen.” – Jazz Thing
“… grooved wie verrückt…” – HHV MAG
“… arbeitet an seinem ganz eigenen Kosmos.” – Choices
“ohlala, diese EP ist ein echter Knaller.” – Peter Weiss, Narcotic Syntax/Perlon, DJ
“Dein neues album mit Daniel Dodd-Ellis “Cease To Matter”ist wieder mal excellent!!” – Richard Dorfmeister, Tosca / DJ
“tolles Projekt, gefällt mir wirklich gut.” – Thomas Elbern, DLF
“… es passieren bei Burnt Friedman sowieso überraschende Dinge: nichts zirkuliert so lange, dass man sich von einem Loop gefangen fühlt.” – Michael Engelbrecht, DLF
“… the juxtaposition of Dodd-Ellis’ minimalist vocal contributions and Friedmann’s polyrhythmic arrangement gel perfectly, resulting in a track that is complex yet accessible, inviting even.” – Inverted Audio
“… the spoken words of Daniel Dodd-Ellis, whose contributions are less like song lyrics than like poetry, and less like poetry than word collage. The words come at unexpected intervals and in brief snippets, not always cohering in any obvious way …” – CD Hotlist Available from 24.04.2015
