Daedelus – Invention And The Quiet Party (BF RSD)
Tuesday, October 24th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Daedelus – Invention And The Quiet Party (BF RSD)

Image: 1615560 Like his mythological namesake, Daedelus – otherwise known as Alfred Darlington – is an inventor, a creator of sonic labyrinths combining sounds from an eclectic palette into an innovative genre all his own. To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Daedelus is repackaging his seminal debut Invention in a 2XLP package with the complimentary EP The Quiet Party (including appearances from Madlib, Yesterday’s New Quintet and Busdriver) in a color vinyl masterpiece. Containing the track Experience, known in part as a sample in Madvillain’s accordion, Invention is a genrespanning opus that marks the start of what has become an illustrious career.
As Pitchfork writes, “Daedelus’ debut album manages to fnd common ground between 21st century electronics and the string arrangements of yesteryear. He never obscures one with the other, nor allows one to shine through at the other’s expense. The disparate elements are in harmony and at the command of Daedelus’ personality.”

Truth – From Ashes To Kingdom Come
Friday, January 15th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Truth – From Ashes To Kingdom Come

Image: 1601557 The emergence of hip-hop out of Queens, NY has proven to be
timeless. From Run DMC, LL Cool J, and Kool G Rap to A Tribe
Called Quest, Large Professor, Organized Konfusion, and Mobb
Deep there’s never been a shortage of dynamic music from the
borough. Longtime observer and emcee of the culture Truth is set
to release his debut album “From Ashes To Kingdome Come” on Ill
Adrenaline Records.
A few years back Truth formed an alliance with PF Cuttin (of
Blahzay Blahzay) and together the Queens emcee and the Brooklyn
producer/DJ/engineer are ready to release a typical 90’s throwback
sounding full-length that carries PF’s thumbprint throughout. On the
18-track strong heater Truth picks up various topics, ranging from
life experiences to repping hip-hop culture – always showcasing his
passionate and sharp lyrical rhyme skills.
Entirely recorded and mixed by PF Cuttin, the album’s raw and dusty
sound stays true to the streets, including features from heavyweights
such as the late Sean Price, O.C., and AG (of D.I.T.C.). Newcomer
JK1 The Supernova handles the majority of production along with
veteran producers PF Cuttin, Psycho Les (of The Beatnuts), Da
Beatminerz, and DJ Doom. Containing plenty of dope scratches
mainly executed by PF Cuttin and Rock Steady’s own DJ JS-1, the
album’s uniqueness remains on one accord with the boom bap
sound and origin which is a rarity in today’s music.

Alain Macklovitch aka A-Trak was 13 when he scratched his first record. The year was 1995, the turntable was his father’s, and the mixer … well, he didn’t have a mixer yet. But that problem was remedied soon enough, when he used his freshly earned Bar Mitzvah money to buy himself a used Technics 1200 turntable and, you guessed it, a mixer.

In the months that followed, while the other kids were busy playing sports and watching ‘Full House’, he spent most of his after-school time locked up in his basement, practicing, listening to Pete Rock, DJ Premier and Jazzy Jeff records, studying videotapes and showing his new scratches to his big brother Dave …

Same procedure as every year. Once again we asked around what Groove Attack’s employees have been listening to during the past year.

A sure thing in 2004 was the huge comeback of house music. Moody 4 to the floor rhythms ruled the office. Theo everywhere. And there was the return of rock music. A sort of Eagles Of Death Metal rock music. Hot and sweaty. Maybe we’ll grow out of the hip hop box real soon. But what the hell do I know? Just wondering what the next year has in store for everyone. Read on ‘cuz this list is for you …
