Reginald Omas Mamode IV – Children Of Nu
Friday, September 22nd, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Reginald Omas Mamode IV – Children Of Nu

Image: 1611942 Reginald Omas Mamode IV follows last year’s self-titled debut album with “Children Of Nu”.

Tracklisting
A1 – Rollin In
A2 – Put Your Hearts Together
A3 – IV Afrika Crunk
A4 – Us Two
A5 – Interlude
B1 – Question They
B2 – Nu
B3 – Do Right
B4 – Peoples Pattern
B5 – Working…
C1 – Unity
C2 – Don’t You Know?
C3 – Poor Man
C4 – I Guess
C5 – Interlude II
D1 – We Must Learn (skit)
D2 – Wake Up
D3 – Children Of Nu
D4 – Satisfied
D5 – This Light – Omas Sextet

The 20 track album draws influence from the world around us, everyday life. As we witness rising poverty, global events, political and ethnic divisions – these factors prompt some of Reginald’s themes and call for humanity to recognise we are all interconnected. “We are all related. We’re all brothers and sisters with common ancestry, common history and a common origin regardless of race, geographic location or belief systems. Love and compassion are universal feelings/practices we all should embrace and apply to all aspects of our lives, our interactions and our relationships, regardless of the kinship”.

Reginald Omas Mamode IV ‘Children Of Nu’ encompasses Reginald’s musical and sonic influences – Afro Roots music through to jazz and soul. It draws from Africa as much as the west, an attempt to make a record that can exist in many contexts, the present, the future and past. Recorded with freedom – most tracks remain
from the first take – the process of creating ‘Children Of Nu’ was an open ended development from a natural, intuitive, starting point. Made with minimal thought of how tracks would end up, the music was led through the creative process. Born of a moment, each track is an attempt to capture that instance, mood, feeling or subject.
Last year’s self-titled debut album was warmly received, collecting critical success including Mojo (“A brand-new-retro delight”), Mixmag (“Peckham beat brilliance”), Record Collector (“Equal parts D’Angelo to J Dilla”), The Wire (“Soul music turned all the way inward”) and a Bandcamp Album of the Day (“Breathing lifeforms that are equally steeped in hip-hop, funk, soul and jazz”). It was also nominated for ‘Album of the Year’ at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Awards 2017.
Along with Mo Kolours, Jeen Bassa, Henry Wu, Al Dobson Jr and Tenderlonious, he’s helped forge in the 22a co-operative that The FADER calls “a kaleidoscopic patchwork of hip-hop, house, and groove investigations bound by one thread: a timeless belief in rhythm as a universal language”.

RIN – EROS
Friday, May 12th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on RIN – EROS

– Juice Available from 01.09.2017

“Cinematic feasts of dramatic strings and cascading pianos that will satisfy fans of Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds” The Ransom Note

On 2nd June !K7 records contemporary classical imprint 7K! will release ‘Endless’ – the new album played entirely by Luca D’Alberto – the Italian composer who counts Wim and Donata Wenders, Peter Lindbergh and Lars Von Trier’s Zentropa as fans. Driven by pristine piano and rich strings, ‘Endless’ is sonically opulent with vivid, wonder-evoking pieces conveying wintry, widescreen panoramas and a propulsive arpeggio-fueled energy. Luca composed, arranged and played all instruments on ‘Endless’ himself – the violin, viola, violectra, cello and piano. It was produced by Martyn Heyne (who has worked with Nils Frahm, Lubomir Melnyk, Peter Broderick, Tiny Ruins and The National), with additional production by the lauded DJ/musician Henrik Schwarz. D’Alberto graduated ‘summa cum laude’ with a Ministerial Mention at the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali G. Braga in Teramo, Abruzzo, where he was born and raised. He has performed at prestigious events including the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch in Germany for the ‘Pina40 Festival’, and has worked with various influential figures in the Italian movie and theater world: These include ‘Lampedusani’ – a film-based art project by Luca, the award winning director Costanza Quatriglio and the renowned novelist/poet Erri De Luca, whilst orchestration and full scores were provided by D’Alberto for films including Giorgio Albertazzi’s ‘Giacomo Puccini’, Michele Placido’s ‘La Scelta’, plus ‘Sembra Mio Figlio’ and ‘9X10 Novanta’ by Costanza Quatriglio.

K.A.A.N. & Klaus Layer – Abstractions
Friday, March 24th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on K.A.A.N. & Klaus Layer – Abstractions

Image: 1609397 Abstractions is an international collaboration featuring Maryland’s lyricist extraordinaire, K.A.A.N. going in with no breaks over some of German producer Klaus Layer’s most unique soundscapes to date. Hip-Hop as a genre is big on labels and while many might consider the musical styles demonstrated on here to be “boom-bap” inspired with a side of “lyrical miracle,” there’s more than meets the ear happening here. The project is brief but thanks to the dense layers of both music and introspective wordplay crafted by the artists, listening to Abstractions is a very rewarding experience. The two first collaborated on the deep cut, Sleepy Hollow People, from Layer’s Society Collapse LP in 2016. Out of mutual interests and positive fanfare, a whole EP was recorded shortly afterward. Hearing K.A.A.N. rap is a treat for rap connoisseurs as he dynamically delivers complex rhymes with a rare energy, rivaling even the best veteran MCs of yesterday and today. Klaus Layer is no slouch either when it comes to sound design. Evident by the fact that he has become a fixture amongst some of Hip hop’s best European imports, his records fly off shelves and he can be found frequently performing in smoky Jazz clubs from France to Moscow and beyond. Known for his viral youtube MPC performances and releasing critically acclaimed instrumental albums year after year since his Redef debut in 2013, “Abstractions” is the first Klaus project to exclusively feature a rapper over his sought after sound. Instrumentals are included on the b-side. To date, both artists have found incredible success respectively that continues to grow (K.A.A.N. notably has recently relocated to Los Angeles but we are not at liberty to disclose any of the prescriptions he’s been writing… *Cough*). On Abstractions, K.A.A.N. effortlessly proves why he’s one of the premiere up and coming mc’s adding to his growing back catalog that boasts millions of streams throughout every major online platform. At a time when the world seems to be showing prominent signs of division, it’s a record like this that is an example of how music brings people from all races and all corners of the world together. Despite being separated by the Atlantic across two continents, speaking separate languages and living under different government systems, K.A.A.N. and Klaus Layer’s Abstractions shows no boundaries exist when great minds unit. It’s bigger than hip hop. (Instrumental versions included)

Image: 1606585 Brand new R&S division Chewy Motto fly the nest with a beautiful lo-fi left-sided beat soul set from mysterious transatlantic troupe Quays. Armed with a dreamy sense of melody and a sci-fi sense of soul, Quays lay down four distinctive chapters: “Falling Down On Me” a space-aged future soul serenade and trippy time signatures, “By Your Side” flips and flops with a wavy waft of The Orient while “Stay With Me” takes more of a house route with its persistent kicks and Jamie xx-style taste for star-lit adventure. “Out Cold” closes on a stark, angular reconstruction of UKG elements. Show stopping.

Lee Van Dowski – Cerca Trova
Friday, February 12th, 2016 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Lee Van Dowski – Cerca Trova

Image: 1602326 Shapeshifting French producer Lee Van Dowski drops his first album in 10 years with ‘Cerca Trova’, a career triumph work spanning ambient techno, breaks and beyond.

The LP’s title, translates to ‘Search / Find’ and like the name, sees the Geneva-based artist digging deep into his musical repertoire. The 14-track work harks back to his diverse musical roots, when an initial passion for techno soon led the artist into more experimental territory with the likes of Autechre, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Richard Devine and Otto Van Schirac, fuelling his musical obsession.

The artist – a father of two twin boys – says he wanted to leave something for his sons to remember him by. Likewise, since his last artist album ‘As Told On The Eve Of…’ with Quenum released on Soma in 2006, he wanted to surprise people, while challenging himself to create a narrative beyond the dancefloor. And anyone who has paid even cursory notice of his productions over the years will notice the expansive palette of sounds the Frenchman has explored through the work, which although diverse, flows smoothly from one multilayered moment to the next.

From the glitchy stylings of opening track ‘Creating Me’, to the ‘‘I.L.A.N.E.N.O’, a dreamy ambient collaboration with old friend Caroline Hervé (aka Miss Kittin), that was created after they spent a weekend in the mountains with Lee’s kids, the producer sets about building a creative and cohesive trip across 70 minutes.

There’s ‘1+1’, a grand, orchestral breakbeat-driven cut awash with strings and vocal harmonies and the evocative ‘Repli Tactique’, an intoxicating wall of sound, driven by rich Flamenco-style guitar licks, before Lee shifts the momentum up a gear for the stunning electro breaks of ‘The One’. The grininducing ‘Dans Tes Yeux’ is five minutes of pure, driving breakbeat euphoria, before the tempo is taken into gritty acid techno territory with ‘Toran’. To close, he then brings us down again with the beautiful title track, followed by the
delicate piano-laden concluder ‘Sinon Toi’.

An artist reborn since joining Anja Schneider’s Mobilee Records in 2013, the album follows on from Lee’s outstanding past 12 months that saw him drop releases on Cocoon, Bedrock, Suara, Rebellion (sub-label of Crosstown Rebels), This and That and of course Mobilee, home to ‘050504’, one of the year’s biggest techno tracks.

Image: 1596236 Originally released in 1972 in very limited numbers. A trip of an album rich in percussive energy and African chant – made in Brazil! The sounds of continents colliding in a young, funky & soul fuelled 70s ….this is one is on full burn from start to finish ! This the only album by Massáhi Tribe and it became notorious for it’s unique sound and the almost complete lack of information about its creators. Check!
the Label say:

‘ This is a sound made in Brazil. All the members are Brazilians.
But the goal is to show the young african music, with all his distinctions that features the origin of the black continent’s music.
In this record we launch several curious things. Starting from a rhythmic draw, based on the camel steps that match the division 4/4, on the same line of YÁ YÁ YÁ and SOUL MUSIC, which was given the name of OGA, this, because in Lagos, Nigeria’s capital, is an intimate treatment among friends. There, a man feels good when compared to a OGA (camel).
Purposely and proudly we launch this new and different LP, not only dedicated to all record collectors in the world but also to all party lovers, nights in club, and even for who’s loving, because on both sides, there aren’t intervals. It’s a contagious and crazy rhythm.”

This is how, in 1971, Embaixador and Maestro João Negrão described the record on his back cover. These words did not aged a bit.

We are very happy and proud to announce, 44 years later, the first 100% official reissue of this genuine work that became legendary and considered as the “Holy Grail” of Brazilian music among collectors around the world.’
