Image: 1606284 Chicago producers Scud One (Cult Classic, The Dirty Science™,
2013/2014) and T-White (The Gift Vol. V, Street Corner Music™,
2014) have been working together musically for the last four years.
Scud One is a producer and lyricist whose work on Cult Classic and
Don’t Drink The Kool-Aid – alongside artist Denmark Vessey – was
called“organic and thoughtful, political and soulful, and without being
quirky or removed from the streets” (Daniel Isenberg – Nahright.com,
Complex Magazine). Scud One has worked with artists including
Quelle Chris, Guilty Simpson, and Exile, among others. T-White is
a music producer, and animator whose record debut was the fifth
volume in the ten-volume “The Gift” series compiled by House Shoes

Don’t Drink The Kool-Aid and 2015’s Martin Lucid Dream, T-White
produced the single “Don’t Smoke K2” which was featured on NPR’s
“Songs We Love”.
“STEVEN TYLER” – a title derived from the combination of both
artists first names . Scud One (Steven) and T-White (Tyler) focus
on the integration of beats, interludes and spoken-word comedy
skits delivered with absurd – and sometimes sardonic – wit. It’s a
packed album, filled with colorful sounds, spacey artwork and
irreverent humor throughout. As a collaborative effort, it showcases
the strengths of both its producers, and makes for a unique blend.
“STEVEN TYLER’ is being sponsored by “Chroncierge”. “STEVEN
TYLER” will be released on both vinyl, and cassette, and thanx to
Chroncierge both will be green! Chroncierge will also be putting out
a limited time strain called “Scudzy White” in support of the album.

Dag Savage (Johaz & Exile) – E&J (Red Vinyl + Download)
Thursday, February 20th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Dag Savage (Johaz & Exile) – E&J (Red Vinyl + Download)

Image: 1586864 Following his collaboration with Blu on (Blu and Exile’s) Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them, Exile Teams Up with Johaz. another fresh voice from Cali under the monicker DAG SAVAGE. The album features appearances by the Dirty Science Family Blu, Aloe Blacc, Fashawn, Co$$, Choosey and more. With beats produced By Exile who has been making classics for the westcoast for a minute, from Blu & Exile’s “Below the heavens” to Fashawn’s “Boy meets World.” Now for his next classic, the debut album “E & J” by Dag Savage. Exile was raised into music, something that began generations ago in his family. Through rudimentary beat machines, turntables and instruments, Aleksander Manfredi found his niche and spent years honing it. His journey took him all over southern California’s underground scene and it was at one of these shows in the early 2000’s that he first met a young, hungry MC by the name of Johaz.
Cultured by experience, Johaz grew up both in East San Diego County and Tijuana, Mexico. Life was definitely not easy for a young Black boy living in Tijuana and crossing the border
everyday to go to school in SD. He returned to the states full time as a teen but the wise and intelligent young man had developed a belligerent streak. Though he was too young to get into local clubs normally, Johaz infiltrated the scene as a dancer, hopping on the mic once he’d finished a routine. This inevitably led to an encounter with the Masters of the Universe crew and after proving his worth through battle and realizing he was kin with Sumach aka Gonjasufi, Johaz became an extended member of the collective. He didn’t record much with them though, aesthetically Johaz was a bit different than everyone else at the time. Johaz’s flow was a bit more deliberate, his lyrics painstakingly honest and unabashedly raw. It wasn’t until his dance crew Urban Dynamics grew into the hip-hop group Deep Rooted that Johaz began to find a home for his gravely flow.
It was his Urban Dynamics brethren that brought Johaz out that fateful night when he met Exile. Johaz immediately made an impression on Ex through his ferocity on the mic and his hunger and humility as a person. He was quickly invited to the studio where he began cutting tracks with Exile and the idea of an extensive collaboration began to brew. Soon it became apparent that the chemistry was unique and the duo spent the next several years chiseling away, crafting their unique blend of hip-hop.

Southern California’s Blu & Exile return to their collaborative
origins with the release of Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still
Smell Them, the long-anticipated followup to the duo’s landmark
debut, Below the Heavens.
Featuring Fashawn, Homeboy Sandman, Johaz of Dag Savage,
Black Spade of Hawthorne Headhunters, and ADAD, the new
album on Fat Beats / Dirty Science is both an evolution from and
complement to their first: a cohesive, kicked back collection of
hip-hop buoyed by Blu’s gymnastic wordplay and Exile’s soulful,
sample-driven beats. While Blu’s penchant for introspection and
analysis remains intact, his perspective ebbs from the sun-soaked
nostalgia of Below the Heavens to a more playful realm where
raps about lost love and forgotten dreams find equal footing with
those about Gondry films and delivery cheesecake. Together Blu &
Exile have taken the raw materials of rap and crafted charmingly
idiosyncratic, album-minded mu- sic that transcends coasts and
continents alike.
As with Dilla & Common, Hi-Tek & Talib Kweli, and Pete Rock
& CL Smooth, there’s a kindred understanding between Blu and
Exile that invites instant ease and empathy. Although Exile has
produced tracks for Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Akon,
Aloe Blacc, Jurassic 5, Kardinal Offishall, and Mobb Deep, it is
with Blu that his production feels most at home. Give Me My
Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them, though undoubtedly a
logical progression in both sound and scope, defies all the hype,
precedents, and expectations to reaffirm the duo’s position at the
forefront of LA’s burgeoning beat scene. Available from 18.10.2013

Blame One & J57 – Walk In The Sun (Orange Vinyl)
Thursday, September 26th, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Blame One & J57 – Walk In The Sun (Orange Vinyl)

Image: 1583341 West Coast emcee, Blame One is a part of the Dirty Science crew (Exile, Blame One, Blu, Aloe Blacc, Fashawn, Johaz). He is a veteran in the game with a slew of albums and EPs under his belt. Sean Price, in an interview about their collaboration ”Disturbed” (Produced by Exile), said Blame One was one of two people that ever outshined him on a track.

East Coast producer/emcee J57 is a part of the Brown Bag AllStars (Audible Doctor, DeeJay Element, DJ E Holla, J57, Koncept & Soul Khan). Closely linked to DJ Premier & DJ Eclipse, J57 has of late been a highly sought after producer in the indie hip-hop scene.

In September 2010, Blame One hit J57 up via twitter when he heard that the legendary NYC record store and hip-hop cultural icon Fat Beats was closing its doors, knowing that’s where J57 worked, to tell him he was sorry to hear the sad news. They immediately clicked and linked up for a project. Fast-forward to 2013 and they give you the “Walk in the Sun” LP.

“I woke up April 21st to the news of Prince’s passing. Before I could
fully digest the news I received numerous texts from friends about
his passing and how I should honor his passing with making music
with Prince samples, in honor. I thought to myself, I’m not going to
do that, I’m not going to try ride Prince’s legacy to gain fame.As time
passed, drinks were sipped and again I’m asked the question “how
are you going to respond, musically to his passing?”
I went home faded, turned on the stereo and started banging Prince.
As I’m listening I’m realizing all the emotion of mine that is stored in
his music. I’m realizing how much of his music my mom would play
loudly in the house. My mothers face happy as she would dance in
the house. I mean she would be busting! Dancing like she’s in the
club! She was good too!
I began to cry and think about my own life, my mothers passing and
Prince’s passing as a symbol of this wonderful journey.A sign of the
times of my own life to witness the death of my mother to know the
the death of a prince that represents almost a farewell to a childhood
that made the manhood of who I am now. The creativity I fight
viciously for, and the inspiration I find along the way that keeps on
track with the God energy means everything to me.All the summers
that passed with this amazing inspiration, creativity and emotion that
is Prince to me.
I realized I have no choice but to honor his creative life by honoring
my own by taking my good friends advice with these 3 simple beats
and this hip hop I’ve been working on my whole life. This is what
makes me happy. Inspiration turned to creation. With heart and with
love. Rest in Peace, Prince.” – Exile Manfredi Available from 22.07.2016

Friction – Scatter / Battle Scars (Limited Picture Disc)

Image: 1590214 STRICTLY LIMITED EDITION PICTURE DISC VINYL 12”

Friction returns to the Shogun studios to present a brand new 4-part series of releases that will see him collaborate with a host of his favourite producers from across the electronic music spectrum. Available digitally and as strictly limited edition vinyl picture discs, ‘Friction Vs’ offers the chance to step inside the minds of some of the most revered heads in the business as they don the controls to deliver some hybrid brand D&B, fresh for 2014.

For the very first outing Friction draws in a duo that need little introduction. Total Science are what jungle drum & bass legends are made of, with a pioneering discography stemming back to the mid 90’s. Here the results are simply outstanding as ‘Scatter’ seeps experience, a pure unadulterated dance floor roller, keeping things strictly for the underground.

Tag team rules as new Shogun signings Fourward then step into the ring along with one of the most unique voices in the game, Jakes. ‘Battle Scars’ is a dirty, low-slung, tech excursion perfect for the late night marching crew and makes for the downright dangerous ending for the first volume in this new ground breaking new series.

Back in 1996 (while High Contrast, Logistics and Cyantific were all still in short trousers) two chaps from North West London were busy setting up their own little label as an outlet for their left of centre drum and bass creations. Who would have thought that 10 years and 100 releases later the label would have become the multi-national-corporate-superpower that is Hospital Records?!

To celebrate 10 years of Hospital the label put together the fattest primary care package to give both hardcore fans and recent NHS converts the chance to revel in some of the finest moments in the label’s past, present and future …

Same procedure as every year. Once again we asked around what Groove Attack’s employees have been listening to during the past year.

A sure thing in 2004 was the huge comeback of house music. Moody 4 to the floor rhythms ruled the office. Theo everywhere. And there was the return of rock music. A sort of Eagles Of Death Metal rock music. Hot and sweaty. Maybe we’ll grow out of the hip hop box real soon. But what the hell do I know? Just wondering what the next year has in store for everyone. Read on ‘cuz this list is for you …
