Image: 1593984 One year & a half after releasing “Heavy This Year”, Taiwan MC is back with a second EP: “DISKODUB”!

Spending studio time in between shows with Chinese Man Records for the label’s 10th anniversary, Taiwan MC puts on this new solo project, a mix of digital reggae sprinkled with 80’s funk, retrofuturistic dancehall and psychedelic dub…

Inspired by his worldwide touring experiences and containing lyrics written mainly on the road, this new EP was instinctively conceived & shaped to be used on the dancefloor, yet remaining fully hallucinogenic!

Unveiling a personal universe and laying the foundations for a new sound at the crossroads with Jamaican sound systems, London clubs and New Yorker block parties, “DISKODUB” also marks the beginning of Taiwan as a composer.

The EP is produced and directed by S.O.A.P., with contributions of Chinese Man, Dreadsquad and Manudigital. The various beatmakers multiply their talents to transform “DISKODUB” in to pure musical fire?! ?
?While “Heavy This Year” featured many guest appearances, Taiwan MC covers all riddims by himself in this new solo effort and gives us a good overview of his vocal abilities as singer, MC and DJ!?
?As ?frontman of Chinese Man Live, Taiwan has already strolled on prestigious French and European stages: Summerjam, Roskilde, Boomtown, Couleur Café, Eurockéennes, Francofolies, Printemps de Bourges, Vieilles Charrues, Solidays…

Deluxe – The Deluxe Family Show

Available from 20.09.2013

Hüsker Dü – Savage Young Dü (3CD+Book)
Friday, September 29th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Hüsker Dü – Savage Young Dü (3CD+Book)

Hüsker-Dü-Bassist Greg Norton: “Hearing this stuff for the first time in a couple of decades, I [was] realizing the historical significance of what we were doing at the time”, erklärt er. “Of course, at the time, we were a bunch of kids playing rock ‘n’ roll in the basement. But the potential that Hüsker had showed right out of the gate.”

“We created this blistering wall of sound – bright white radio static with occasional melody.” – Bob Mould
“It was like rolling down a hill aware of the bumps, but focusing on blowing people’s minds and completely wearing out the audience.” – Grant Hart
“We didn’t know what hardcore was. We just got up there and played real fast and loud.” – Greg Norton
Package details:

El Michels Affair – Return To The 37th Chamber
Friday, May 5th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on El Michels Affair – Return To The 37th Chamber

Image: 1608954 The wait is over, Return To The 37th Chamber is El Michels Affair’s highly anticipated follow up to 2009’s underground cult classic Enter
the 37th Chamber. Churning out classic records since then for the likes of Lee Fields, The Arcs, The Shacks, and tons more, it is clear that
EMA’s signature sound is stronger & sharper than ever.
This time, in addition to re-interpreting the Wu compositions for a live band, EMA pays homage to the production and sonic fog that
makes a RZA beat so recognizable. Producer and bandleader Leon Michels recorded the album completely analog, sometimes hitting 6
generations of tape before it was ready for mixing, giving the Return to The 37th Chamber it’s own hazy sound. Adding to the unique
fidelity, the record is laced with psychedelic flourishes, “John Carpenter” synths, heavy metal guitars, triumphant horns, and traditional
Chinese instruments that make up for the lack of the Wu’s superlative vocals. From start to finish it’s a dark trip that walks the line
between RZA’s timeless hip-hop aesthetic and the cinematic soul EMA has become known for.
El Michels Affair tackles some classics like 4th Chamber and Wu Tang Aint Nuthin to Fuck Wit, as well as some deeper cuts like Ol Dirty
Bastard’s Snakes, Raekwon’s Verbal Intercourse, and Shaolin Brew, Wu-Tang’s contribution to the St. Ide’s Hip Hop endorsement
campaign from 1994. This time El Michels brings some of the Big Crown family along for the ride. Lee Fields handles vocal duties on
Snakes and is joined by Shannon Wise of The Shacks for their version of Tearz, which pays as much homage to the Wendy Rene sample
as it does to the Wu-Tang Clan. Lady Wray makes an appearance on the cover of Method Man’s hit, All I Need, lending her vocal prowess
to what gave the Wu one of their biggest hits of all time. Interspersed throughout the record are some original interludes that are like the
“rug that ties the room together,” giving Return To The 37th Chamber a cinematic narrative that makes it a proper El Michels Affair record
and not just a collection of covers.
From the music to the presentation, this album is a perfect example of what can only be achieved through diversity. The end result is as
much a kaleidoscope of influences and multiculturalism as the city it was recorded in. El Michels Affair is once again, “sounding out the
city” that raised them, pulling elements of art and culture from across the country and around the globe to create an album truly unique
in it’s own right.

Tracklisting
1. 4th Chamber
2. Iron Man
3. Shaolin Brew
4. Pork Chop Express

Onra – Chinoiseries 3
Friday, March 24th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Onra – Chinoiseries 3

Image: 1609348 Almost 10 years have passed since Onra arrived with the charmingly eccentric Chinoiseries LP. 32 Hip-Hop beats formed the sample-based project – dusty Chinese vinyl hissing and crackling throughout – resulting in an intriguing and spontaneous mix of the producers interest in exploring a newly-discovered style of Music with his love for classic Hip-Hop production.

Using the style of analogue MPC production combined with the somewhat restrictive record sampling of strictly Chinese Music records, he has been able to be creative over three volumes, an amount of 100 instrumentals, despite the challenge of finding more obviously standout samples in Chinese music.

The Chinoiseries projects are the type of albums that invites the listener to play it from beginning to end, in order to really enjoy the trip and appreciate the variety of rhythms and textures spread over those 32 short instrumentals. In that way, “Pt.3” is no different to its predecessors, but the originality of the samples, the curious harmonies and the odd-drum patterns still makes the album sounds as fresh as the first one.

Onra finishes this epic trilogy with class as a result of extended record digging across the Far East and the producer’s own development over the preceding 10 years.

As a producer who has released records inspired by 80’s Funk, 90’s Hip-Hop and R’n’B, Electronic and even a Spiritual Jazz project, “Pt. 3” brings this stylised set to a close.

Normally a man of few words, Onra has his own take on the three
Volumes:

I see the first Chinoiseries as a trip, inspired by my own first travel to Asia, each beat representing one particular moment of the journey, the second one, more like a soundtrack to a movie, each beat representing a different scene, and the third one, I tried to create a dark, smoky and mysterious cinematic atmosphere so you could create your own movie in your head.
For this last episode, I just really wanted to have fun with this type of material for the very last time. I dug deeper than ever and I have tried to do as many different rhythm patterns as possible, from various influences like Hip-Hop (from different eras), to Bossa to Indian Music to Psych Rock, Soul, etc. and try to portray a different image of Chinese Music.

Francois Tusques & Don Cherry – La Maison Fille Du Soleil
Wednesday, October 1st, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Francois Tusques & Don Cherry – La Maison Fille Du Soleil

Image: 1592975 Cross-pollinating the wants lists of art/jazz/print and architecture enthusiasts this seldom sighted 45 single is regarded as the rarest “lost” recording by American jazz trumpeter and global communal music missionary Don Cherry as he collaborates with French piano improv genius François Tusques. A missing link in the pre-formative years of improvised jazz this mythical private pressing unites two of the key exponents of both American and French free jazz – two entirely independent musical art forms which by 1964 had yet to publicly entwine at the hands of bands like Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Sunny Murray, the Actuel magazine/label and Pan-African jazz festivals in the late 60s. This intimate recording was made to accompany an exhibition by pioneering Swiss/French architect Charles-Édouard Jeanneret-Gris (better known as Le Corbusier) held in Tusques own home town of Nantes.

Recorded in one sitting while the globe-trotting Don Cherry stopped off in France this record also marks the beginning of a musical journey which lead to releases in Germany, Italy and Sweden featuring collaborations with the likes of Komeda (Poland), Okay Temiz (Turkey), Joachim Kühn (Germany), the legendary Krzysztof Penderecki and directors Alexandro Jodorowsky and Jerzy Skolimowski. Here these compositions are lead by François Tusques adopting the Chinese whisper sound carrier techniques deployed in his music for the film Viol Du Vampire by Jean Rollin while sonically evoking other cinematic works by Komeda, Mal Waldron and Bernt Rosengren.

Housed in a two fold wrap-around sleeve identical to the original article this pocket document of a cross-continental jazz milestone also features a miscredited appearance by bass player Bernard ‘Beb’ Guérin (BYG/Futura) and lays the foundations for Tusques’ imminent free jazz and le nouveau jazz LPs. Also includes download code.

This uplifting, genre-bending sound clash, recalls the afro centric harping of Dorothy Ashby and hypnotic spiritual jazz of Alice Coltrane. With Lee adding equal doses of hip-hop, electric jazz, and soul […]
