Fat Boys – The Fat Boys
Friday, May 29th, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Fat Boys – The Fat Boys

Image: 1597379 The Fat Boys were the highest profiled hip hop group in the early 1980’s next to Run DMC. They were part of the first corporate sponsored rap concert (Fresh Fest), they were featured in the movie Krush Groove, one of the first rap groups to travel to Europe, and they sold hefty amounts of records and continued to balloon throughout the decade.

Their beginnings were humble like most but quickly catapulted into full stardom. Appearances on radio, TV, full tours, magazine spreads
and they even had their own embroidered satin jackets! Their first single, “Reality” under the name Disco 3 was released unnoticed and
that’s when their fearless management of Charles Stettler and Lynda West decided to bring in one of the hottest names in rap at the time to
produce, Kurtis Blow.

The single “Fat Boys” with Kurtis became a instant hit and it also became the new name of the group. Kurt enlisted his music team to
assemble what became the debut album by the Fat Boys. Larry Smith (Run DMC’s producer and arranger), Davy DMX, Don Blackman, and
a whole slew of other session players laid the raw backbeat for the three boys from Brooklyn to rock the house!
What separated their album from the majority of other rap records at the time was the pure rawness of the songs. The humorous element
dominated the record but there was a prime roughness to their style that gave them a hardcore edge. Songs like Stick ‘Em, Fat Boys, The
Place To Be & Human Beat Box easily display their boisterousness.

SIDE A:
1. Jail House Rap
2. Stick ‘Em
3. Can You Feel It?

SIDE B:
1. Fat Boys
2. The Place To Be
3. Human Beat Box
4. Don’t You Dog Me Available from 10.07.2015

Arsonists – The Sessions / Halloween (Colored Vinyl)
Thursday, October 2nd, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Arsonists – The Sessions / Halloween (Colored Vinyl)

Image: 1592992 SIDE A: THE SESSIONS / SIDE B: HALLOWEEN / “The Sessions” catapulted The Arsonists as one of the pillars of the then new bubbling indy scene that was coming out of New York in the early to mid 90’s. With heavy play on the famed Stretch Armstrong show (hosted by Bobitto – who initially released the song on his legendary Fondle ‘Em Records) the song stood out showcasing the charismatic MC’s over an infectious jazzy bassline. Part Leaders of the New School, part Native Tongues , “The Sessions” was a special blend of originality that was lacking in the climate of Hip Hop at the time of its release.
For the B Side with “Halloween” The Arsonists take things conceptually pointing out the many “masks” people wear stating that “every day’s like Halloween/nothing’s what it seems” over an equally powerful piano laced beat. The single overall was a breath of fresh air and gave Hip Hop fans a taste of what was lacking – and an idea of great things to come from The Arsonists. Available from 31.10.2014

Malphino – El Lava De Gabacho EP
Monday, May 27th, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Malphino – El Lava De Gabacho EP

Image: 1580795 Initiated by DJ & visual artist Yu Sato (Lex Records), the devilish Malphino have been spreading their raw, earthy blend of Cumbia, Forró, Samba and cinematic Exotica throughout London since 2010. This is their first “studio” effort – recorded live at Catapulte’s basement on a 2-track tape machine – featuring 3 original instrumentals and 3 beautifully sung vocal tracks (including José Barros’s classic “Navidad Negra”).

While Alex Barrow’s accordion and Graham Mushnik’s organ deliver their merciless riffs, the rhythm section – percussion, acoustic guitar and a mad tuba – keeps the groove going. Rather than opting for the trendy psychedelic sounds of echoey guitars and synths, Malphino went for a more primitive approach with clear influences from early jazz, 50’s mambo and film soundtracks (live, they often cover Nino Rota and Piero Piccioni). A catchy, soulful and butt-shaking 10” vinyl that will keep your hips busy “hasta Lunes”!

Tracklisting

1. Cumbia Policia
2. Navidad Negra
3. Mi Malphino
4. El Lava De Gabacho
5. Danza Negra
6. Fabiola Amapola Available from 06.05.2013
