The Showfa – A Gospel Excursion Vol. 1
Thursday, July 6th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on The Showfa – A Gospel Excursion Vol. 1

Image: 1610798 For our fourth release, we’re pleased to welcome The Showfa inside the Excursions kitchen, to cook us up something sizzling for your mind, body & soul. Wielding a nifty set of disco scissors, he’s selected the finest of gospel cuts and brought them neatly to the boil, serving up three delectable dishes of hot spiritual gumbo. Soul food of the highest calibre.

Taking us to church straight off the bat, ‘Thankful’ builds and builds along an infectiously uplifting piano-heavy hook, an edit that bubbles away effortlessly akin to a Moodyman-esque disco groove, perfectly crafted for the dancefloor.

‘He’ll Answer’ drops the tempo and tone to something slower & lower, lending its sound to that of the most proficient beat-masters, incorporating moody synths and haunting strings, in a true future gospel style and pattern.

The last serving on the plate is ‘Jus’ A Little Talk’ – a cheeky flip of a classic that’s destined to make the AOR diggers and connoisseurs salivate profusely. This retro yacht rock bumper closes out this joyously ethereal platter perfectly.

Already finding its way into the crates of selectors such as Gilles Peterson, Horse Meat Disco and Patrick Forge, it’s also received love in Mixmag and across the airwaves, from NTS to Mi-Soul to Rinse FM.

Another essential Excursion on wax, and one that will never leave the box.

Perera Elsewhere – All Of This
Friday, April 21st, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Perera Elsewhere – All Of This

Image: 1609213 Building off the sultry electronic art-pop blueprint of her acclaimed 2013 debut ‘Everlast’, Perera Elsewhere returns with her sonically adventurous, dystopian second full-length ‘All Of This’.

Tracklist:
1. Something’s Up
2. The Other Side
3. Happened
4. Tomorrow South
5. Karam
6. Big Heart
7. Girl From Monotronica
8. All Of This
9. Shoes
10. Runaway
11. Weary

Building off the sultry electronic art-pop blueprint of her acclaimed
2013 debut ‘Everlast’, Perera Elsewhere returns with her sonically
adventurous, dystopian second full-length ‘All Of This’. Written and
recorded in Berlin, Istanbul, and Mumbai over the course of three years, ‘All
Of This’ expands on downtempo rhythms and ornate organic/electronic
instrumentation with more attention to folding hypnotic, moody
atmospheres traversing trip-hop, avant R&B, and experimental folk.
A fixture between many disparate music scenes as an experienced yet
self-taught producer, Perera was an original member of Jahcoozi (B-Pitch
Control). She has participated in various collaboratory cultural music
projects in far-flung parts of the world with the Goethe Institut and has
taught people in Bangladesh how to use Ableton to try and create the kind
of musical world they feel to : anthropology, feminism, community, DIY
and empowerment through music are all thrown together to try and make
sense of the things that surround us.
A quiet tension haunts throughout the record’s instinctual arrangement
and movement. Addressing increasing distrust and confusion towards our
political/economic systems, the album’s smoky first single “Something’s
Up” delivers a warning to open our eyes. Touching upon many timely
societal anxieties like wealth inequality the rise of parallel worlds / echo
chambers within society and people living in their own bubbles / gated
communities of the mind (“The Other Side”), ego/self-obsession
(“Happened”), the constant noise of being continuously targeted by
marketing (“Weary”) and dealing with all these pressures or even attempting
to understand our times (“All Of This”), this is a record that approaches
such weighty issues in a manner that feels deeply personal.
Using a hybrid of digital techniques, analog equipment (Buchla,
Korg MS20, Poly6, Monotron Delay) and organics (eg.trumpet and some
percussion), Perera Elsewhere arrives at an original sound spotlighting how
the soulful human element cross-polinates with technology and electronic
exploration. ‘All Of This’ is raw yet sophisticated expression of an artist
trying to make sense of these dark times.

Key Points:
• Follow up to 2013’s ‘Everlast’ which received notable support from
Pitchfork, Vogue, NPR, Resident Advisor, Vogue Italy, Groove
Magazin, Dazed, Dummy Mag, The FADER and more
• First single “Something’s Up” received support from Pitchfork,
Resident Advisor, The FADER, The 405, Indie Mag, Indie Current
• “Something’s Up” Official Music Video premiered on THUMP
• Original member of BPitch Control’s Jahcoozi, with features on
Modeselektor record (FIFA soundtrack)
• Perera Elsewhere has contributed mixes to RBMA (Trainwreck Mix),
FADER, Groove Magazin, Solid Steel (Ninja Tune on NTS), EB
Radio (Electronic Beats), Dublab, KEXP and more
Press Quotes:
• “The music she made existed in some strange continuum
between Siouxsie and the Banshees and Massive Attack. Now, after a
nearly four-year hiatus, she returns with “Something’s Up,” an
ominously quiet piece of ambient pop.” – Pitchfork
• “Haunting, hypnotic, and criminally slept on..” – The FADER Available from 02.06.2017

Twit One, Hulk Hodn, Suff […]

Applescal – For
Friday, April 3rd, 2015 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Applescal – For

Image: 1595474 Big one for Atomnation as Applescal is back with his fourth studio album For.

Tracklist
1. Like You Do
2. Matter
3. For Lovers
4. Overseas
5. Moabit
6. Flutes In The Air
7. Japanese Bubbles
8. Where Are You
9. Airports
10. Borrowing The Past (feat. Rhian Sheehan)

Atomnation co-founder Pascal Terstappen presents ‘For’, his fourth longplayer as Applescal to date and a redefinition of his coveted sound.
If you’ve been following this producer’s output over the years, you’re likely to be aware of his meticulously built tracks and remixes in which
playful percussion structures and otherworldly melodies fuse into compositions that float somewhere between the sofa and the dancefloor.
Applescal’s previous album ‘Dreaming In Key’ found excellent support in the press (Pitchfork 7,6, Xlr8r 7,5, Drowned In Sound 7) and got played
by DJ’s such as Gilles Peterson, Laurent Garnier & Daniel Avery.
‘For’s’ content, the new album, still transmits that organic and careless sound of Applescal’s earlier work, but this time round things seem to
be dipping more frequently into deeper and darker waters. Many will recognize Applescal’s signature sound in tracks such as ‘Like You Do’,
‘Matter’ and ‘Overseas’, with dreamscape synthesizers and sparkling grooves being the main ingredients, but ‘For’ also sees the producer
drawing from a new sound palette, an even more mature one perhaps, bravely redefining his sound while staying true to the roots of his earlier
work.

Image: 1589086 Father Funk is a superhero. Big with the bass and big with the beats, he’s one of the Ghetto Funk scene’s sharpest up and coming talents… Lost in Michael Jackson’s woodland estate young Will Williamson was a happy soul, breast fed and reared by a family of disco Llamas, he’d canter hither and tither to his heart’s content, chewing on the lush grass and shrubs planted way back in the Motown days.

Until the day the bulldozers arrived to clear the estate and mine the fabled Tree of Soul. Outraged, the Llamas quickly militarised and Will found himself leading the Llama army against the machines. Sadly for Will and the Llamas, they were trained in combat by Bubbles, Michael Jackson’s favourite monkey and could only offer thrown semen and faeces against their metal foe and it was over as soon as it began. But as is the way with super heroes, Will didn’t die. He was spirited away and placed in a montage, where over the proceeding years he grew strong, running along beaches and up and down steps to Bill Conti’s Theme from Rocky.
