Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath – Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath II

Image: 1606769 Austin’s Brownout unleashed the Brown
Sabbath Vol.I project garnering acclaim from
outlets such as NPR (50 Best Albums of 2014),
Pitchfork, hardcore Black Sabbath fans and
most important of all Ozzy Osbourne himself,
while staying true to their Latin Funk roots.
Brown Sabbath Vol. II cranks up the level,
rocking harder than the original with a brew of
ballistic horns, pummeling guitar-riffs
underscored by a funky, driving rhyhm section.
Ghostland Observatory‘s Aaron Behrens
makes a guest appearance sharing vocal duties
with Brown Sabbath lead vocalist Alex Marrero.
Hitting harder than it’s predecessor and keeping closely in line
with the original Sabbath material, Brown Sabbath Vol. II crosses
over more to hard rock territory. Brownout’s powerful, signature
full horn section, dual-guitar attack, funked-up drums and latin
percussion return with a vengeance, adding even more weight
and texture to create a dark hybrid sound that resonates with
groove-laden intensity unique to their interpretation of Black
Sabbath’s tome.
An 8-piece outfit formed ten years ago by members of Grammy
Award-winning Latin revival orchestra Grupo Fantasma, Brownout
has evolved into a musical force all its own. With a succesful tour
of Brown Sabbath under their belt including Bonnaroo and Austin
Psych Fest while earning their third Austin Music Award, the
band has continued to produce music that is unflinchingly
progressive, while evoking the classic influences of artists such
as WAR, Cymande and Funkadelic.
Brownout now has four albums under their belt including Brown
Sabbath Vol.I (Ubiquity 2014), Homenaje (Freestyle Records
2008), Aguilas & Cobras (Six Degrees 2009) and Oozy (Nat Geo
2012). Tour dates to support Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath
Vol.II, will be announced shortly.

Image: 1589827 Brown Sabbath is the alter ego of Austin-based Brownout, delving into the catalog of the Hard Rock and Heavy Metal godfathers themselves Black Sabbath. The album features several covers of
Sabbath classics including “Iron Man”, “N.I.B” and “Hand Of Doom” with Black Angels singer Alex Maas.
Remaining true to the darkness, bombast and fuzz of Sabbath’s sound, Brownout reinvents the music with their trademark flavors of Latin-Funk and Psychedelic Rock. Powerful horns combined
with Alex Maas’ haunting vocals, funked-up drums and percussion transform “Hand Of Doom” into a Rock and Funk juggernaut that clocks in at almost 8 minutes long. Alex Marrero
takes his turn on the vocals and channels his inner Ozzy Osbourne on “The Wizard” and “N.I.B”. Deep, hypnotic percussion combined with a full horn section and Adrian Quesada‘s heavy yet groovy lead guitar layered on top adds a funk sensibility and Latin flourishes to the originals throughout the album.
An 8-piece outfit formed ten years ago by members of Grammy Award-winning Latin revival orchestra Grupo Fantasma, Brownout has evolved into a musical force all its own. After garnering their
third Austin Music Award last year, the band has continued to produce music that is unflinchingly progressive, while evoking the classic influences of artists such as WAR, Cymande and

Thursday, May 9th, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Jess & Crabbe Present – Bazzerk – Changa Tuki Classics

Available from 19.04.2013

Sunday, March 31st, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Night Hawks / Scott Woods – Chicken Grabber/ Chicken Rock

Image: 1579714 Something of a poultry offering here as we ransack the coop to pull out these two Chicken-based oddities. On the top side is the Nite Hawks (a very early incarnation of the Crusaders – yes them of ‘Street Life’ success and ignominy) with their wondrous, slinky instrumental number ‘Chicken Grabber’, a jazzy, bump and grinder punctuated by frenzied clucking from the hens and deranged muttering from their unknown pursuer. Made infamous by its appearance in John Waters’ notorious schlock-fest ‘Pink Flamingos’, ‘Chicken Grabber’ is surely one of the best songs about chicken ever made. That might seem a weak claim on the face of it, but then just consider the hundreds, perhaps thousands of other records inspired by our fowl feathered friends, and then consider that on the flip-side of this little rooster, we serve up Scott Wood’s ‘Chicken Rock’ – another rock & roll curio with a decidedly unhinged air, and another of the very best chicken sides ever waxed. – John Lee & Gerry Brown – Infnite Jones

Beloved DJ, compiler and incurable vinyl junkie, Kev Beadle returns to BBE with a 3rd volume of his much lauded ‘Private Collection’ album series. Taking in a wide range of obscure jazz with a distinct nod to the dance-foor, the frst two ‘Private Collections’ are already considered classics by the jazz-dance community. Once again presenting a wealth of ultrarare sounds previously only available to record collectors with very deep pockets, Vol.3 sees Kev inviting us to travel even deeper into the vinyl vaults. Quite a lot has happened in the 3 years since ‘Private Collection Vol.2’ was released, not least Kev’s announcement last year that he was hanging up his headphones. We hope, selfshly, that his retirement won’t last, but either way, the news has given this compilation some added signifcance for us. A founder of London’s legendary Dingwalls and former Wag club resident, Kev has been at the very centre of the UK’s jazz-dance scene for decades, locked in (friendly) competition with the likes of Gilles Peterson, Patrick Forge, Bob Jones and many others on a never-ending quest for that perfect track.
As you might expect, ‘Private Collection Vol.3’ contains its fair share of frenetic, syncopated musical workouts to test the stamina of even the most dedicated dancers, but the album also provides some moments of calm, some smooth Latin grooves like Louis Hayes version of the Freddie Hubbard classic ‘Little Sunfower’ as well as very rare, sought after recordings by Belair, Lee Willhite and the Webster Lewis that have changed hands for big money in recent times amongst the collectors. Whether you are a record collector or a jazz club regular, this compilation represents a chance to fnally own more than a few ‘holy grail’ tunes without breaking the bank and a chance to relive those special moments on the dance-foor. For the rest of us, this is simply a glorious concoction of 70s and 80s jazz, rescued from relative obscurity, painstakingly assembled and presented with a great deal of love.

Key Selling Points:
1. Compiled by Kev Beadle – one of the UK’s original jazz dance DJs, also responsible for compiling other great compilations including the CapitolRare series for Blue Note and Argo/Cadet Grooves series for Charly Records
2. Full press campaign in UK, France and Germany Available from 06.10.2017

Dischi Autunno is the new label founded by Jennifer Cardini & Noura Labbani. Already at
the head of Correspondant since more than 6 years & internationally renowned DJ, Jennifer
Cardini launched this new structure at the start of 2017 with Dollkraut’s 2nd LP “Holy Ghost
People”. The label explores new territories withindie, rock, ambient, progressive and
experimental releases, oerfect for home listening experiences. Every label artworks &
images are conceived by Stevie Anderson.
The 2nd release on Dischi Autunno is the 1st album of The Magic Ray, new project of
established artist Fred Bigo aka Electronicat. The album is produced by Cosmo Vitelli.
Fred Bigo: “Work on The Magic Ray began in 2015 when, after playing him recordings of
a set of spontaneous compositions, Cosmo Vitelli offered to produce the album in his new
studio in Marzahn, located in the somewhat desolate far east of Berlin, Germany. We
worked on new arrangements of selected songs, and re-recorded guitars, bass, and
electronics. Live drums were laid down by skilled percussionist Chris Imler. Vocals and
lyrics were provided by the Scottish singer Catriona Shaw, as well as by the legendary Kid
Congo Powers who features on a rework of ‘The Enjoyment of Fear’, up until now only
available as a limited edition 7” vinyl”
Further production and arrangement was taken up by trusted colleague G.D.Luxxe, who
had previously produced the Electronicat album “21st Century Toy”. The track “Sky
Sunlight Sky” was created in his studio in Vienna.
“The Magic Ray is not exactly a departure from what has been before. This Magic Ray
masters hillbilly motor skills, a transmutation of rhythms into notes and notes into rhythms.
This magic ray delivers a selection of beautiful voices, placing them here and there, it takes
its time and tries its hand at cruising through the cosmos. This magic ray consists of
photonic guitars that peal a dynamic impact. It is a form of light that, with its shimmering
nature, will strip you down, yet leave you masked in mystery, at the edge of a lake standing
amongst the dogs and the wolves. With its strings and various synths, this Magic Ray is as
electric as it sometimes may appear” Arnaud Maguet
From his beginnings in the experimental art and noise scene in late 90s in Paris, Fred
Bigo’s eclectic but deliberate blend of rock, noise and infectious rhythm has gained him
loyal fans from all over the world. His music bears a full understanding and respect for the
varied spectrum of popular music. Fusing this with a contemporary and experimental
edge, he has drawn the attention of musicians and producers, having worked together
with Foetus, Kid Congo Powers, Tim Gane, Ian Svenonius and Depeche Mode, His
versatility and skill has brought him into collaboration with a range of composers and
performers including Zbigniev Karkovsky, Kasper Toeplitz and Antonia Baehr. His musical
personae include Electronicat, Bader Motor, Melt Famas and currently ‘The Magic Ray’,
with which he has built up an impressive catalogue of releases on international labels. His
dynamic live concerts have gained him the reputation of being a wild and unpredictable
stage presence, assured to send any crowd into a rhythm-induced frenzy Available from 22.09.2017

King Jammy – Waterhouse Dub

URBS – Urbs (2LP)
Friday, July 28th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on URBS – Urbs (2LP)

Image: 1609319 It has been eleven long years since Urbs dropped his last album which was called “Toujours Le Meme Film”. Back then, the musician, DJ and producer created the soundtrack to a fictitious Film Noir, which was released on Kruder & Dorfmeister‘s G-Stone Label, but after touring Europe he almost completely retreated from public life. He does not consider his creativity as being his career, but rather as a part of his life which rarely is subject to concrete planning, and that is why Urbs quite consciously took his time to create his latest –untitled- album.

Urbs: “A lot of people totally appreciated my last album “Toujours Le Meme Film”, and over the years I’ve learned that it really means a lot to some of them. Which was a burden, because, obviously, you do not want to disappoint these people. By now, I think enough water went down Danube river to perhaps surprise some of them with something completely new. Those who know me know that I’ve always simply produced dope hip hop tracks.”

This time, as a consequence, this is no all instrumental album but a collection of 12 soulful hip hop tunes that feature some handpicked vocalist of the international rap, dancehall and soul scenes. On the album right next to EMC’s Wordsworth or R.A. the Rugged Man from New York, you will hear Ward 21 from Kingston, Jamaica, Voice Monet from New Orleans, One Self’s Blu Rum 13 from Washington DC, as well as long time companions like Skero from Vienna or Blabbwona from the group Abstract Art, who now lives in Munich by choice.

With a wink of the eye, Urbs replies to the question what it felt like recording an album together with vocalists after having released several instrumental albums: “Generally speaking, letting go of the songs and surrendering myself to the MCs gave me a hard time. You spend a lot of time with a song and build a certain kind of relationship. The music creates pictures in your mind and often its meaning is hard to grasp for the producer. And then, an MC starts rapping over it and it is a little bit like your older brother’s rude friends turn your child’s room in a mess – in your presence.”

There also is a simple answer to the question of why the album has no title: “This album, so to say, is my competitive exhibition in this field and owing to the endlessly long ripening process it is wonderfully and intensively boiled down and on point. Therefore, no intros, no interludes, no title, no gimmicks, simply 12 good songs – period.”

Besides the album, two Remix EPs will be released with re-works by Retrogott, Brenk Sinatra, Visoneers (Marc Mac of 4 Hero), Peter Kruder, Cookin’ Soul, J*Star, Flip (Texta) and others.
The artwork is made by DJ DSL.

URBS – Urbs

Halal Cool J – An Ottoman Excursion
Tuesday, July 4th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Halal Cool J – An Ottoman Excursion

Image: 1610777 For the third set of Excursions, we’re letting off some tasty Turkish flavours. Darkhouse Family presents ‘An Ottoman Excursion’. Halal Cool J (aka Don Leisure of Darkhouse Family) has blessed us with four cheeky edits, crafted with care, and guaranteed to create dancefloor flames. A few choice selectors have been playing these for a while (such as Lefto and Gaslamp Killer, on Boiler Room), but this is the first time these tracks have been released into the public domain.

In Don’s words: “I got into Turkish music around about 2006 when Egon (ex-Stones Throw) put out a Turkish Funk podcast showcasing artists like Baris Manco, Erkin Koray & Selda. The musical rabbit hole led me to discover re-releases on labels like Finders Keepers, and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s hard to find original pressings of Turkish music in the UK, so when my cousin landed a job in Istanbul, it was the perfect opportunity to make a bunch of trips there, armed with a portable turntable, hunting for dusty records. I made these tracks a few years ago now, but they’ve found a perfect home now with Excursions.”

For ‘An Ottoman Excursion’ we head straight in with the neck-snapping drums and epic riffs of ‘Visne Nektari’, before the synth-led ‘Derbent’s Groove’ breezes triumphantly into motion. For the flip, we nicely drop the pace a little to do the ‘Turkish Duck Walk’, before the humidity of the ‘Fernebache Heat’ raises up the tempo to close out the set. 4 chops. 8 minutes of Turkish Psych-Funk vibes. 45rpm 7″ vinyl pressure. Limited copies only. No sleeping. last copies !!!

1 Visne Nektari
2 Derbent’s Groove

Odion Livingstone present another essential reissue from the Nigerian archives, the frst ever international release of The Apples’ essential Afro-funk LP rarity ‘Mind Twister’. As part of the St Gregory’s student band scene in Lagos during the late ‘70s alongside Ofege, Grotto and more, Apples were picked up and produced by legendary EMI Nigeria producer Odion Iruoje who added overdubs to the album at Abbey Road in London with Curved Air keyboardist Francis Monkman.
The band met and formed in Lagos. Bandleader Frank Ikpefuran teamed up with Georges Vieira from the American School and brothers Clifford and Gerard Nagi who were studying at “St Greg’s” in Lagos, and remembers, “I must have been 19 years old when I met Clifford. We used to hangout on Victoria Island, watching bands play and jamming with them. That’s how we met Georges. We all listened to Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Idris Muhammad and the Beatles.” “We started jamming with Clifford on the guitar, his brother Gerard on the bass and Georges on the guitar. We chipped in with song ideas, with the group contributing arrangements and refning things until we were satisfed. The band had a natural sound, which stemmed from the chemistry we had. It was a strange chemistry, we were an odd combination from different backgrounds but when we played, something happened…”
After landing a residency at Tee Mac’s club in Surulere, Apples auditioned for Odion Iruoje who arranged recording dates and cut the record. For a young band, Iruoje was surprised by the quality of the band, adding in extra keyboard parts from Lemmy Udofa and Francis Monkman, founder of Curved Air and session man for Kate Bush, Sky and music libraries like BBC Music, Bruton and KPM. Iruoje remembers, “their playing added a layer of sophistication and sheen without encumbering proceedings.” This defnitive edition of Apples’ ‘Mind
Twister’ features new interviews with bandleader Frank Ikpefuran and producer Odion Iruoje and has been fully remastered by The Carvery.

Sounds Of The Sirens – For All Our Sins
Tuesday, May 9th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Sounds Of The Sirens – For All Our Sins

Image: 1610073 There’s a certain transcendent magic that happens when two contrasting voices coalesce in
perfect harmony – think The Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel or George Jones and
Tammy Wynette. Imperceptibly, they can raise you from the temporal to the spiritual in the
breath of a song, and set you floating among the firmament infused with a sense of wonder
– just like Sound of the Sirens. Exeter-based duo Abbe Martin and Hannah Wood dovetail
beautifully on their debut album, For All Our Sins, a beguiling acoustic pop collection
replete with lyrical sensibility. Already championed by Chris Evans – who declared himself
“blown away” when he heard Sound of the Sirens for the first time, and subsequently invited
them to perform alongside U2 and Take That on TFI Friday last year – they’re certain to
broaden a burgeoning fan base on the back of For All Our Sins. It’s a fan base built up not
just over several sublime EP releases – but also through their live shows, which combine a
natural facility for connecting with their audiences and unforgettable performances
predicated on energy, warmth, humour and, above all, real conviction. Sound of the Sirens
want to both enlighten and entertain, and they want to do it with euphony. For All Our Sins
accomplishes all of the above.

Shina Williams & His African Percussions – Agboju Logun

Image: 1609896 Strut present a brand new 12” reissue of Shina Williams’ monster Nigerian disco anthem ‘Agboju Logun’, pairing the rare original album version (released on Phonodisk Nigeria) with the more sparse 12” remix which surfaced later internationally on Earthworks. This is the third release on STRUT’S new Original Masters Series.

Tracklisting:
A1. AGBOJU LOGUN (12” version)
B1. AGBOJU LOGUN (LP version)

Strut present a brand new 12” reissue of Shina Williams’ monster Nigerian disco anthem ‘Agboju Logun’, pairing the rare original album version (released on Phonodisk Nigeria) with the more sparse 12” remix which surfaced later internationally on Earthworks.
Back in 1979 when Shina Williams’ ‘Agboju Logun’ frst appeared on his ‘African Dances’ LP, Williams knew well that the track was breaking new ground. “I want to show the whole wide world that Africa is alive with modern musicians to reckon with anywhere,” he stated. Now an accepted Afro disco classic of its time, ‘Agboju Logun’ did indeed bring together the cream of Nigeria’s players as a oneoff supergroup in one inspired session. As a long-standing and well respected highlife musician and vocalist, Williams called in the ‘A’ list: Tunde Martins from Afro Collective played bass guitar, the brilliant Biddy Wright (player on albums by Lijadu Sisters, Blo and many more) contributed the famous synth lines and handled production, Fred Fisher was on trombone and Saliu Alabi played talking drum.
Enjoying limited success upon its release in Nigeria, ‘African Dances’ nevertheless gained some international attention when Earthworks’ Jumbo Van Renan licensed two tracks from it for an international 12” single release in 1984, remixing ‘Agboju Logun’ in a more stripped back mix for dancefloors. However, it was the period following Fela Kuti’s death in the late ‘90s that truly ignited interest in archive African grooves for a new
internet generation. Strut’s frst ‘Nigeria 70’ compilation featured the track in 2000 and it has been a staple in DJs’ crates ever since. ‘Abboju Logun’ is released in a picture jacket 12” featuring original artwork and all musicians’ credits and is fully remastered by The Carvery.

KEY POINTS:
– First offcial reissue of 12” version and LP version together
– Restored by See Why Audio and remastered by The Carvery
– Sleeve features original Phonodisk artwork and musicians’ credits
– Essential reissue of Afro disco classic

URBS – Remix EP1 (Retrogott, Brenk Sinatra, Cookin’ Soul)
Friday, May 5th, 2017 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on URBS – Remix EP1 (Retrogott, Brenk Sinatra, Cookin’ Soul)

The Rugged Man, finden sich u.a.

R.A. The
Rugged Man neu.
Welt. Produktionen für Joey Badass, The Game, Swizz Beats, Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Max B, Dipset,

Soul-Szene aufwarten. Neben den New Yorkern Wordsworth von EMC sowie R.A. The Rugged Man,

Bruders dein Kinderzimmer verwüsten- in deiner Anwesenheit.“

Deshalb auch keine Intros, keine Interludes, kein Titel, no Gimmicks, einfach
12 gute Songs – Punkt.“
