Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath – Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath II

Image: 1606769 Austin’s Brownout unleashed the Brown
Sabbath Vol.I project garnering acclaim from
outlets such as NPR (50 Best Albums of 2014),
Pitchfork, hardcore Black Sabbath fans and
most important of all Ozzy Osbourne himself,
while staying true to their Latin Funk roots.
Brown Sabbath Vol. II cranks up the level,
rocking harder than the original with a brew of
ballistic horns, pummeling guitar-riffs
underscored by a funky, driving rhyhm section.
Ghostland Observatory‘s Aaron Behrens
makes a guest appearance sharing vocal duties
with Brown Sabbath lead vocalist Alex Marrero.
Hitting harder than it’s predecessor and keeping closely in line
with the original Sabbath material, Brown Sabbath Vol. II crosses
over more to hard rock territory. Brownout’s powerful, signature
full horn section, dual-guitar attack, funked-up drums and latin
percussion return with a vengeance, adding even more weight
and texture to create a dark hybrid sound that resonates with
groove-laden intensity unique to their interpretation of Black
Sabbath’s tome.
An 8-piece outfit formed ten years ago by members of Grammy
Award-winning Latin revival orchestra Grupo Fantasma, Brownout
has evolved into a musical force all its own. With a succesful tour
of Brown Sabbath under their belt including Bonnaroo and Austin
Psych Fest while earning their third Austin Music Award, the
band has continued to produce music that is unflinchingly
progressive, while evoking the classic influences of artists such
as WAR, Cymande and Funkadelic.
Brownout now has four albums under their belt including Brown
Sabbath Vol.I (Ubiquity 2014), Homenaje (Freestyle Records
2008), Aguilas & Cobras (Six Degrees 2009) and Oozy (Nat Geo
2012). Tour dates to support Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath
Vol.II, will be announced shortly.

Thursday, August 28th, 2014 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath – Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath

Image: 1589827 Brown Sabbath is the alter ego of Austin-based Brownout, delving into the catalog of the Hard Rock and Heavy Metal godfathers themselves Black Sabbath. The album features several covers of
Sabbath classics including “Iron Man”, “N.I.B” and “Hand Of Doom” with Black Angels singer Alex Maas.
Remaining true to the darkness, bombast and fuzz of Sabbath’s sound, Brownout reinvents the music with their trademark flavors of Latin-Funk and Psychedelic Rock. Powerful horns combined
with Alex Maas’ haunting vocals, funked-up drums and percussion transform “Hand Of Doom” into a Rock and Funk juggernaut that clocks in at almost 8 minutes long. Alex Marrero
takes his turn on the vocals and channels his inner Ozzy Osbourne on “The Wizard” and “N.I.B”. Deep, hypnotic percussion combined with a full horn section and Adrian Quesada‘s heavy yet groovy lead guitar layered on top adds a funk sensibility and Latin flourishes to the originals throughout the album.
An 8-piece outfit formed ten years ago by members of Grammy Award-winning Latin revival orchestra Grupo Fantasma, Brownout has evolved into a musical force all its own. After garnering their
third Austin Music Award last year, the band has continued to produce music that is unflinchingly progressive, while evoking the classic influences of artists such as WAR, Cymande and
Funkadelic.
Brownout has released three albums including Homenaje (Freestyle Records 2008), Aguilas & Cobras (Six Degrees 2009) and Oozy (Nat Geo 2012). Tour dates to support the release of their fourth studio effort, Brownout Presents Brown Sabbath, will be announced shortly.

Jess & Crabbe Present – Bazzerk – Changa Tuki Classics
Thursday, May 9th, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Jess & Crabbe Present – Bazzerk – Changa Tuki Classics

Available from 19.04.2013

Night Hawks / Scott Woods – Chicken Grabber/ Chicken Rock
Sunday, March 31st, 2013 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Night Hawks / Scott Woods – Chicken Grabber/ Chicken Rock

Image: 1579714 Something of a poultry offering here as we ransack the coop to pull out these two Chicken-based oddities. On the top side is the Nite Hawks (a very early incarnation of the Crusaders – yes them of ‘Street Life’ success and ignominy) with their wondrous, slinky instrumental number ‘Chicken Grabber’, a jazzy, bump and grinder punctuated by frenzied clucking from the hens and deranged muttering from their unknown pursuer. Made infamous by its appearance in John Waters’ notorious schlock-fest ‘Pink Flamingos’, ‘Chicken Grabber’ is surely one of the best songs about chicken ever made. That might seem a weak claim on the face of it, but then just consider the hundreds, perhaps thousands of other records inspired by our fowl feathered friends, and then consider that on the flip-side of this little rooster, we serve up Scott Wood’s ‘Chicken Rock’ – another rock & roll curio with a decidedly unhinged air, and another of the very best chicken sides ever waxed. Echo Collective – Echo Collective Plays Radiohead (180g)
Friday, February 16th, 2018 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Echo Collective – Echo Collective Plays Radiohead (180g)

Image: 1617562 7K present, Echo Collective plays Amnesiac the new album by belgian band Echo Collective covering Radiohead’s classic “Amnesiac”

LP TRACKLISTING

A2 Pyramid Song (5:29)
B1 You and Whose Army? (5:24)
B2 I Might Be Wrong (4:59)

D1 Hunting Bears – Like Spinning Plates (7:11)
D2 Life in a Glasshouse (4:13)

Over the past few years orchestral instrumental music from outside the classical establishment has become huge, and Neil Leiter and Margaret Hermant of the Belgian Echo Collective have witnessed the evolution and extraordinary rise of this movement right up close. They’ve worked with some of the most important players, including Stars Of The Lid, Dustin O’Halloran and Adam Wiltze’s A Winged Victory For The Sullen and O’Halloran’s solo projects, as well as Jóhann Jóhannsson. And though the Echo Collective members themselves very much do come from within the classical music establishment, they don’t care which side of the fence they are seen to be on.
It was this which grabbed the attention of German music hub !K7’s new sub-label 7K! – who have signed them for a two album deal: first to release the Amnesiac reinterpretation, then for a record of Echo Collective’s own compositions. Not only that but they have been signed for publishing by Mutesong, which led to a hook-up with Mute mainstays Erasure, re-arranging and re-recording their latest album World Be Gone with classical instrumentation backing Andy Bell’s vocals. This ability to flow easily from black metal to Radiohead, from Erasure to Stars Of The Lid shows exactly what kind of musicians Echo Collective are.
The album, which features artwork by the renowned photographer and artist Roger Ballen, will be released on 30 March on CD, 2LP and digital platforms. Available from 30.03.2018

Les McCann – Layers
Saturday, January 27th, 2018 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on Les McCann – Layers

Image: 1617585 Starting in the late 60s, jazz music started to take an interesting,
and very soulful turn. Influenced by the funk of the day – from
James Brown to Sly & The Family Stone – the artform, generally
not considered a funky musical genre, started to stretch out and
fit into the times. It was a fertile era, and to reciprocate, funk,
soul and groovy rock fans started to discover accomplished,
open-minded jazz artists like Les McCann, whose tunes made
sense to their ears, even if bebop hadn’t grabbed them.
This incredible album – long a favorite of forward-thinking
hip-hop producers and DJs – washes over listeners from the
first chords of the incredible album opener, “Sometimes I Cry,”
led by McCann’s array of analog synthesizers and backed by an
excellent rhythm section (Donald Dean on drums,
Ralph McDonald on percussion and Jimmy Rowser on bass).
Truth be told, highlights are hard to pick out, but fans never go
long without returning to the fuzzed-out funk of “The Harlem
Buck Strut Dance,” “Let’s Play (Til Mom Calls)” and “It Never
Stopped In My Hometown.” These keyboard-drenched grooves
sat alongside record stacks brimming with Stevie Wonder,
Funkadelic, Marvin Gaye’s 70s soul and, of course, Miles Davis’
space funk experiments of the era (like Bitches Brew).
Whether you’re new to Layers or just updating a well-loved and
heavily worn-out copy, throw this one on, light one up and lose
yourself for an hour…or even a couple days, if you
have the option

URBS – Remix EP2 (Visioneers/Kruder/Jstar/Pulsinger&Irl)
Friday, January 19th, 2018 | Posted in Products | Comments Off on URBS – Remix EP2 (Visioneers/Kruder/Jstar/Pulsinger&Irl)

Ihr Remix zu „Code Of The Snake“ feat.

Tracklisting

A1 – Get Wid It feat. Tyna (Visioneers Version)
A2 – Happy Days feat. Bagi & Sarah Ann (Peter Kruder Remix)
A3 – Code Of The Snake feat. Blabbwona (Pulsinger & Irl Codeine Shake Dub)
A4 – Why We feat. Ward 21 (Jstar Remix)

B1 – Holdin´ Back feat. Wordsworth (Flip Remix)
B2 – Concussion feat. BluRum13 (Trishes Remix)
B3 – Get Wid It feat. Tyna (Visioneers Version Instrumental)
B4 – Holdin´ Back feat. Wordsworth (Flip Remix Instrumental)
B5 – Concussion feat. BluRum13 (Trishes Remix Instrumental)

Deshalb auch keine Intros, keine Interludes, kein Titel, no Gimmicks, einfach 12 gute Songs – Punkt.“

Neben dem Album werden auch zwei EPs mit Remixes von Retrogott, Brenk Sinatra, Visoneers (Marc Mac von 4 Hero), Peter Kruder, Cookin’ Soul, J*Star, Flip (Texta) und anderen veröffentlicht. Für das Artwork zeichnet DJ DSL verantwortlich. Available from 02.03.2018

The first Brit to sign to Daptone Records, Hunter is revered by critics both in his native UK and stateside, with MOJO touting Hunter as “The UK’s greatest soul singer” and the Los Angeles Times praising his “extraordinary soul voice.” Of his prior recordings, Rolling Stone called his U.S. debut People Gonna Talk, “a treat not to miss” and his second album “unbelievably awesome,” while The New York Times noted of The Hard Way, Hunter’s “tight, slithery groove” and “sweet growl.” Hunter’s accolades include milestones of reaching #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart, a GRAMMY® Award nomination for “Best Traditional Blues Album”, years as a singer touring and recording with Van Morrison, and many TV appearances on Conan, Later…with Jools Holland, and other late night TV shows.

Subsequent to his acclaim as one of today’s renowned soul singers, Hunter’s restless genius penning emotive and captivating works results in his best written compositions to date on Whatever It Takes. The needle drops on “I Don’t Wanna Be Without You” with saxophones grabbing your collar, pulling you close and moving you over the undulating curves of a rhumba. His words curl casually into your ear alongside the coquettish bubbling of the organ. The casual confidence of a song-smith who’s honed his craft beyond reproach, Hunter’s effortless intimacy on the track drives a perfect synchronicity with its crooning melodies, harmonies, and rhythms. A unified devotion serving only their master’s voice, his almost violently tender voice plucks lyrics off a seemingly endless vine and feeds them to the listener with the eager patience of a lover.

The mood and tempo then climb up into the swaggering backbeat of the title track. Drums then tear into the bottom of the groove with the full-throated rapture of “I Got Eyes.” Hunter is egged on by complicit background singers here and there. They ease in and out of Whatever It Takes, serving harmonies like tuxedoed waiters in an expensive restaurant, offering perfect pairings for each melodic course.

“Mm-Hmm,” suddenly a tender mood hits. Verses of regret cascade in delicate shapes over dancing rhythms. A word-less chorus paints a painfully detailed picture of misfortune with an eloquently barren hum. Then, a bang. “Blisters,” an instrumental cigarette before you have to get up and turn the record over. Hunter’s guitar work is fearless like a buck knife carving initials into the knobby bark of a Freddy King shuffle.

Take a breath. Side Two: “A tender word too few, came a half a day too late…” “I Should’ve Spoke Up” comes pitter-patting down a rain-soaked sidewalk, lost in sweet, soft, sentimental regret. Then come the talkings-to. “Show Her,” with ostinato bass, drums and organ scrawling “actions speak louder” dutifully on the chalkboard behind Hunter’s lessons. The frenetic tutorial of “Don’t Let Pride Take You for a Ride” practically tears itself apart in its final cautionary refrains. “How Long” is a yarn spun out on a porch with its gospel harmonies and foot stomping. And stepping out just as he stepped in, “It Was Gonna Be You,” an affectionate simplicity and sincerity that defies the quirkiness of the tim-tom clockwork over which it’s delivered.

There is a common theme on Whatever It Takes. It’s not a record about infidelity, shallow seductions, fleeting backdoor trysts, or any of the other common clichés of R&B. These are poetic testaments to truer love. Loyalty, devotion, humility, and the inevitable regret of those who take love for granted. Clearly inspired by his new bride, Hunter is singing about the preciousness of a love he plans to keep, Whatever It Takes.
