Image: 1615685 Cosmic jazz-funk and street-smart
grooves and rhythms were the name of
the game on Bubble Gum, the 1975 debut
album of 9th Creation. The album featured
nine rollicking tracks of often-instrumental
funk, equally inspired by the likes of Kool
and The Gang and The Fatback Band,
which frequently crossed over into realms
of 70s dance and soul balladry. Obscure in
its time, Bubble Gum went on to be a
cornucopia of wealth for crate diggers and
beatsmiths, particularly the title track,
which made its way into cuts by Pete Rock
& CL Smooth, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist,
and 3rd Bass, just to name a few.
