With a voice like a choir of angels, Americana in the soul and Flamenco in the heart Brian Lopez’ debut “Ultra” ascends to the top of the Tucson, Arizona new music scene. Juggling between chamber pop and heartstrings, desert rock and epic melodies we discover an album doing honors to classic crooners such as Roy Orbinson. And yet creating a truly contemporary soundscape: ultra magical, ultra fascinating, ultra Brian Lopez.

Formally known as front-man of the eccentric rock band Mostly Bears the 28-year old crooner has clearly come a long way leading him through the discovery of his Spanish origins along which he has created a fascinating style. “Ultra” is a stunning debut as a solo artist, which will propel Brian Lopez next to Giant Sand and Calexico as the third major export coming form his hometown Tucson. The incomparably high timbre in Lopez ‘voice induces pleasant goosebumps. Over the years making music he developed a very unique style of interpreting songs and during his studies of guitar and piano at the conservatory of Tucson his voice received its fine tuning as well.

For his solo debut, Brian Lopez betook himself and the audience on a musical journey on which he was able to realize his visions all-out. Working by himself developed an unbridled imagination alongside which the songwriting came to him easily. “It has been the easiest musical venture I’ve ever taken part in my life, by far.” “Ultra” is fed upon the high vocal quality and the elemental sound of Brian Lopez, always enchanting through subtle string arrangements emphasizing on the sinews of each song. The output is an album with a timeless, classical sound and a truly unique character, marrying a variety of influences into a harmonious musical journey. Brian Lopez is off to fly solo and it should not take long before the musical desert metropolis Tucson has a new famous son.
