Whenever dance music threatens to become a preserve of the elderly, a ray of light appears on the horizon. At the moment, that shining beacon is Sascha Dive, a scarily young Frankfurt-based producer in charge of the label Deep Vibes Recordings, currently one of Germany’s most promising exports. Although early American dance anthems inform Sascha Dive’s work, he is a slave to nothing but his own rhythms.
Inspired by the tapes his big brother brought home, he became interested in this infectious brand of music long before he was legally old enough to go to the legendary clubs and parties (Omen, XS, Wild Pitch Club and later Robert-Johnson) at which it was played, where fevered beats made the nights unending and DJs such as Ricardo Villalobos were born. After the usual path of wrong turnings, confusion and enlightenment, he finally made his way into the coordinate system of Motor City. Sascha Dive is as inspired by the grimy soul, gravelly disco and shaky samplers of Moodymann, Theo Parrish and co, as he is by the dry funk and abstract sounds of British luminaries such as Baby Ford, and Thomas Melchior. His favourite old record labels include Elevate, Playhouse, Harmonie Park, MFF, Classic, Maurizio, Burial Mix, Rhythm Sound, KDJ, Sound Signature and of course Prescription and KMS.
Sascha’s productions for Raum…musik, Drumpoet Community, and Deep Vibes Recordings unite these various influences. Deep Vibes Recordings is his baby, and he runs it all by himself. Last year he finally released his long-awaited debut album “Restless Nights” on Deep Vibes.
