Danilo Plessow is a man hard to pigeonhole. Since 2003 he has been producing broken beat and jazzier material with Joachim Tobias under the Inverse Cinematics banner. Their debut full-length “Passin’ Through” was released in 2008 and received great feedback. Very few production units in the world made their reputation growing as fast as the Inverse Cinematics duo. Their distinctive sound signature blending house, chopped-up breaks and jazz aestethics, has already damaged many dancefloors worldwide and propelled them into the limited circle of the most wanted remixers.
But there’s another reason why people have been talking constantly about Plessow. He’s the man responsible for the Motor City Drum Ensemble project, producing music which seems to encapsulate the spirit of Detroit despite being made in Stuttgart – a place that is considered Germany’s own ‘motor city’.
His now legendary “Raw Cuts” series of releases saw Plessow take a cut-and-paste approach to house music, splicing up disco and soul loops to create house tracks that managed to be retrospective and forward-thinking at the same time. He also uses the Motor City Drum Ensemble moniker to indulge his techno side, putting these records out on Motor City Drum Ensemble (MCDE), Compost Black Label, and Mujaba’s Four Roses imprint.
Faces Records now presents a collection of Danilo’s Motor City Drum Ensemble tracks along with some new exclusive tunes. The compilation “Raw Cuts Vol. 1″ is going to be released January 15, 2010.
