5232Born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, on November 11, 1971, Raymond Wright started his career by playing a variety of musical instruments and singing in his local church in Jamaica. He also conducted singing lessons to the local church choir. His spiritual devotion and love for the church led him to study theology, and successfully obtain a degree. But Raymond had another passion: music and singing. He decided to follow his heart to pursuit a career within the music industry.

Raymond Wright started working with the Shocking Vibes crew in 1998. He appeared at various local gigs and major concerts in Jamaica and throughout Europe, and he released a number of singles on the local independent market in Jamaica, including songs like “To H.I.M.”, “When You Call On Me”, “Just For Love”, “Always”, “Critic Highway”, and “Honey” feat. Twiggy. He also collaborated with producers Sly Dunbar, Jack Radics, Fitzroy McKenzy, and Barry O’Hare.

In 2001 Raymond parted company with Shocking Vibes and went to Italy to perform at the famous Rototom Sun Splash festival. He instantly fell in love with the atmosphere in Europe and decided to stay. In 2007 Raymond Wright and Pow Pow producer Ingo Rheinbay met at Petit Prince Club in Cologne. Raymond showed his skills on the mic, and inspired the sound system crew and the crowd with his talent and passion.

Raymond Wright is presenting his new solo-album “Many As One” on Pow Pow. The songs on the 18-track full-length have been voiced in Jamaica, Italy, UK, and Germany with original producer credits by Trevor Bonnick, Stephen McGregor, Alex Soresi, Teka Jacks, Barry O’Hare, Jack Radics, Ingo Rheinbay and Raymond himself. Most of the tracks are backed up by Mamadee, Gentleman’s backing vocalist, and you’ll also find two combination tunes with Roach and Fitta Warrior on the album.
