4678Internationally known as the cutty smoked-out, L.A. native, Phil The Agony, has held down hip-hop’s trenches for years with his Strong Arm Steady crew. But it goes with out saying Phil’s talents have consistently stood out, bringing his solo presence to the forefront of the West Coast underground. From his collaborations with Talib Kweli, Busta Rhymes, Tha Liks, Dilated Peoples and more, to his classic debut LP “Aromatic”, Phil The Agony has earned his stripes and now more than ever is the time is now for him to reclaim his OG status.

With his upcoming new album “Think Green”, Agony takes a different approach in his mission, not only to fans of hip-hop, but also to eco-minded individuals. On the album titled track Phil wastes no time in explaining why it’s important to think of our surroundings as he states “I print my album on recycled paper so you ain’t gotta cut the rainforest, for me to sing the chorus …”. The Economy rides with the environment as the silver-throat emcee creates, in his words, an “environmentally conscious hip-hop album” for 2009. The album’s commercial packing holds true to Phil’s vision, with a minimalist 100% recycled, eco-friendly CD sleeve. Phil has even partnered up with the National Global Releaf Program to have a tree planted for every copy of Think Green that is purchased.

Eco theme aside, Phil’s core-fans can rest assured that lyrically, Phil is up to the same antics he’s always been. Backed by in-house family, Chase Infinite, Planet Asia, Talib Kweli, as well as his Strong Arm team-mates, Krondon and Mitchy Slick the album’s power comes in numbers. Heavily entrenched in Phil’s foundation of street-level consciousness, he states on “Hunters”, “you need more collateral if niggas wanna battle ya boy”. Put ya green on it.
