Kasper Bjørke, from the heart of the thriving Copenhagen electronic scene, has been busy for many years – both as a DJ and as a producer. His success has given allowed him remix plenty of international artists and numerous gigs all over the world, in cities like Tokyo, Beijing, Reykjavik, Barcelona and New York. Kasper has also released music on labels like Fine Records and V2 Records, where the 3rd album from the Filur project, which he runs together with Tomas Barfod (Who Made Who / Tom Boy / Gomma), was released in 2006.

Now Kasper’s first full lenght outburst, “In Gumbo”, is finally ready.

“In Gumbo” is a wide-ranging, original album – far from what the generic ‘Producer slash DJ’ album sounds like. Even with the electronic roots in place, “In Gumbo” is, at times, a melancholic voyage into a cinematic soundscape, while never losing the edge and nerve of the nightclub. Collaborations with numerous musicians and vocalists has made it an organic and personal album, which draws you into the darkest corners of Bjørke’s musical mind (hence the title, “In Gumbo”).

Ranging from “Psychedelic Neon Pop” (we just made that one up) to elements from rave rock, disco, techno and electro, the productions never fail to keep a strong agenda in the edgy musical moods. After nearly a decade in the business as a producer, with a Danish Music Award in the bag as Best Producer back in 2001, as well as countless DJ Awards, Kasper has accomplished in creating a challenging album, with focus on the future – while still maintaining an eye on the past.

Amongst the collaborators are Dennis Young (percussionist in the legendary NYC punk-funk band Liquid Liquid), The Pierces (NYC girl duo), Fm Belfast (rising stars from Reykjavik), Kap10Kurt (NYC game boy punk duo) and Blake (ex member of the Icelandic musical collective Gus Gus).

The talented, Swiss designer and photographer, Florence Tétier, has matched Kaspers musical universe with her images and drawings, creating the moody, dark artwork and booklet poster accompanying the album.

Maybe It’s because Kasper Bjørke is one of the most renowned DJs and producers in Copenhagen, maybe its because both Tom Boy and Trentemøller are remixing singles off the album – or maybe its because international fashion magazines like Vs. and Cover has chosen to cast its spotlight on the album – either way it all only adds to the insurance that “In Gumbo” is not to be missed!

“Back & Spine” 12″ is in stores now, “In Gumbo” CD has been released in late October 2007!
