Over the past few years the Cologne based producer Frank West has become a household name within the international dance music scene. In 2005 he began to push boundaries with his debut release “Backyard Insanity EP” on Hartchef Discos (HCF06). The reactions were enthusiastic, and he kept the momentum and released more tracks on Astrolab and Hartchef Discos. His contribution to the first Hartchef label compilation, “The Message”, was described as “rave track of the year” by Mr. Bleed in German music magazine De:Bug.

On June 29, he’s going to release his brand new three-track EP “Smooth Operator” on Sin And Soul. The opening track “My Name Is …” is based on a sexy disco sample riding a heavy funk bassline. “Happy Hardcore” is re-inventing breakbeat house and a nod to the early 90s, when Frank West was still a very young kid listening to Steve Mason’s show on BFBS. “Keep It Coming”, the last track, is house music at its rawest, being slightly reminiscent of early Kerri Chandler productions with its pounding kick drum and soulful strings. Frank put it simple: “That’s the best record I’ve ever made!!!”. Damn right.
