Gyptian’s “My Name Is Gyptian” currently has the most votes for Best World Album in Playboy Magazine’s Annual Reader’s Music Poll. Competing with Matisyahu’s “Youth”, Vybz Kartel’s “JMT”, Marisa Montes’s “Universo Ao Meu Redor”, and Cheikh Lo’s “Lamp Fall,” Gyptian’s debut release is proving to be one of 2006’s favorite world albums.

The December 2006 issue of Playboy features the poll and nominees, and the winner will be announced in the March 2007 issue. To cast your vote visit Playboy online at playboy.com/magazine/features/music-poll-2006.

The rising reggae sensation, Gyptian, unleashed his full array of talents and offered a mix of live instrumentation as well as modern day digital riddims on “My Name Is Gyptian.” This critically-acclaimed album features hits, “Serious Times,” “Mama” & “Beautiful Lady,” along with new singles “Beng Beng” & “You Never Know.” His first single “Serious Times” replaced the #1 spot of Damian Marley’s “Welcome To Jamrock” in Jamaica. Then “Mama” began to dominant the Jamaican and International charts as well. His new single “Beautiful Lady” spent weeks at the #1 spot on the Jamaica’s RE charts and is making its way to U.S. radio airwaves.

This new sensation has raised the bar for emerging artists with his quality sound and originality. His natural vocal range projects a crystallized sound that only a computer generator could emulate and his lyrics unveil undeniable truths of love, conflict and resolution. Gyptian’s following speaks for itself. Last week in Barbados, Gyptian (alone) performed in front of over 11,000 fans. His Myspace page has one of the largest reggae artist fanbases with over 36,000 friends. Beyond this broad fanbase, he also turns the heads of critics and music elite as well. He was granted the award of Most Promising Entertainer and nominated for Best New Reggae Artist at the 2006 International Reggae and World Music Awards. He has also received mainstream press coverage on www.Allhiphop.com, in the latest Vibe, Trace 212, Playboy and upcoming Fader Issues.
