Bassist, singer/songwriter Paul Randolph is one of Detroit’s hidden gems whose about to emerge as one of Motor City’s biggest talents with a debut solo album under the artist name RANDOLPH. A futuristic mixture of house and soul, the solo venture, entitled “RANDOLPH SAYS, THIS IS…WHAT IT IS” will be released on Mahogani Music this fall, the label run by Detroit’s own Kenny Dixon Jr, a.k.a. Moodymann.

Randolph’s roots in Detroit music include stints with everyone from Motor City rock band Mudpuppy to Odetta to Eric Burdon to The Supremes. He made vocal and guitar contributions to Carl Craig’s cosmic jazz orientated Innerzone Orchestra project and worked on Recloose’s “Cadiology” album. Randolph recently collaborated with Kevin Saunderson (Reese Project) on the track “This Means That” due for release this fall on Pias and has even recorded and has recorded with the elusive Mad Mike Banks of Underground Resistance, the results of which will surface in the future. Paul is also featured on the forthcoming As One album due this fall on Ubiquity. Greatly influenced by electric bass legend Jaco Pastorius, in addition to his passion for electric bass, Paul learned percussion, acoustic guitar and later vocals, all of which are showcased on his debut.
