UBIQUITY Release schedule 2003

January 21st

Cuica “City To City” (Ubiquity CD & LP, URCD/LP116)

Mix the future-funk bounce of Metro Area with the percussive energy of the Truby Trio, add a smattering of old school disco and some sexy house – that’s Cuica. No mess, a little cheeky and twisted; honest, full-flavor club music. Cuica (pronounced Kweek-uh) is Londoner Pete Herbert (DJ, talented producer (as Optimo and Bushflange) & an A+R scout for Quango) and Turin-native Simone Serritella (records as Big Bang & runs his own Arision label.) The two 12″ releases from this album have been given the thumbs-up by everyone from Swag to Gilles Peterson and the duo have since remixed the Funky Lowlives and Snowboy.

Various “Ape Breaks Vol. III”

February 18th

P’taah “Become Who You Are” (exclusive mix) b/w “Nobody Knows” (Ubiquity 12″, UR12123)

Limited-edition two track 12″ taster leading to the release of the forthcoming P’taah album. “Become Who You Are” features the vocals of Brann’s Ananda Project collaborator Terrence Downs and awesome keyboard player Julius Speed. The album version is a broken / 2-step style tune, but for this 12″ only Brann flips the beat to a straighter, funky housey style. Grab it while you can! “Nobody Knows” rocks with a cheeky bassline, the golden vocals of New Yorker Sylvia Gordon and again that man Julius Speed on the keys – it’s jus’ plain ol’ rude!

Various “Rewind vol. II” (Ubiquity CD & LP, URCD/LP119)

A Ubiquity concept compilation featuring cover versions, remixes and re-edits of original old school classics, famous songs and underground rare groove gems. Top-notch artists and producers like Terry Callier, Greyboy, Yesterdays New Quintet, Roy Davis Jr, Herbert, and Nicola Conte sit next to upcoming acts like The Platinum Pied Pipers (featuring a Waajeed of Slum Village), Povo Povo from Finland and Superbaccanna from Oakland bringing songs by Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield, Sting, Chrissie Hyndes and John Coltrane bang-up-to-date, adding a new twist in the best possible taste. Includes 5 exclusive tracks alongside recent faves from London, Detroit, Bari, Tokyo and beyond!

Various “Ape Breaks Vol. IV”

March 18th

P’taah “Staring At The Sun” (Ubiquity CD & LP, URCD/LP124)

Chris Brann returns with an outstanding second P’taah album. Super funky house and broken beats fused with a ton of percussion, plus the vocals of Terence Downs (Ananda Project) and Sylvia Gordon, and the super talented Julius Speed on keys. Fans of BugzInTheAttic, Atjazz, Jazzanova and Vikter Duplaix, hold tight, Brann’s future blend of electronic soul and organic grooves is for you! Beginning with a series of club tunes this album is about 70% uptempo and 30% chill-out. Watch out for a live show to accompany the release of the album and a guest remix or two.

Various “Viva Cubop III” (Cubop CD CBCD040)

Hot collection of unreleased, and exclusive music alongside some of our favorite Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz tracks from recent CuBop releases. Features Snowboy, Jack Costanzo, Francisco Aguabella, Cuban Roots, Bobby Matos, Ray Armando, Jazz On The Latin Side, John Santos, Johnny Blas, Pucho & Latin Soul Bros., Papo Vazquez, Har You Percussion Group and more!

Various “Ape Breaks Vol. 5”

April 8th

Various (remixed by Zero dB) “Reconstructed” (Ubiquity CD/LP)

Music by Suba, Sun Ra, Peace Orchestra, The Truby Trio, Interfearance and many more gets the remix treatment from red-hot London-based producers Zero dB. Their uncompromising midas-touch remix capabilities earned them more requests than they could handle, but the highlights are all captured here, most have not seen CD release, some were only on limited vinyl, all are floor-filling killers!

Cuica “Cuidado” (Peter Kruder remix) b/w “Double Blues” + bonus beats (Ubiquity 12″)

The storming Brazilian-flavored “Cuidado” gets the Vienniese remix treatment from mastermind producer Peter Kruder aka Peace Orchestra, Vroom Vroom, K&D etc. On the flip “Double Blues” sees 12″ release for the first time, including a bonus beat dub version for the DJs.
