If you are the kind of person who can’t walk by a crate of used vinyl without checking for that one record even if you know for sure that you won’t find it there, than Wax Poetics is for you. It’s the most serious magazine about vinyl obessions made by a crew of pros. The first issue covers Idris Muhammad, Madlib, David Axelrod, the Ultimate Breaks & Beats story, Bobbito, Mr.Supreme among other essential topics.

Wax Poetic mission statement:

“Wax Poetics is a journal for record collectors, beatheads, DJs, producers, and basically anyone who fiends for vinyl, the dustier the better. Each issue will include feature articles and columns covering many aspects of beatdigging and record collecting, and their relationship to hip-hop. By focusing on DJs and producers”through interviews and extensive brain-picking”we’ll provide an historical context for collecting and digging as the foundation of hip-hop and demonstrate the intimate link between digging and beatmaking. To help accomplish this, we’ll interview artists whose music has become classic in the hip-hop community”by DJs rocking doubles back in the day, to repeated sampling over the course of the last 15 years. We’ll discuss technological advancements in turntables and samplers, as well as various styles and techniques employed in their use. Architects from the other elements of hip-hop, including b-boying and b-girling, graf writing, emceeing, and beatboxing, will be showcased, explaining how beats and breaks intimately informed their respective disciplines. In addition, we’ll review old and new records and record fairs. We’ll also run interviews with collectors and dealers, and interpret the international trends of collecting, digging, DJing, and producing.”
