At least a thousand people attended Axis Music Group/BBE “Future” event at the Winter Music Conference in Miami on Monday March 26, including a sun-kissed array of industry celebrities: BBC Radio’s Gilles Peterson, Roots frontman Black Thought, Tony Touch, Mix Master Morris, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Dego of 4Hero, DJ Markie from Brazil, techno master Ian Pooley and Maverick Records honcho Jason Bentley, to name just a few.

A dozen bronzed Playmates flirted throughout the club while Vikter Duplaix, Ahmir/?uestlove, the BBE Records crew, Jazzanova, Charlie Dark and the Bugz in the Attic schooled Miami on the finer elements of hip-hop and broken beats.

Rather than showcasing the standard four-four house music that dominates the WMC, this event fused together the technological wizardry of British two-step with the stylstic finesse of American break beats, creating a decidedly unique and triumphant conference event.
